I'm not sure how you define 'good'. With most protein shakes, it's the fruits, bananas, strawberries, etc that are added that make them 'taste good'. The Vega smoothie by itself is better than any of the others I've tried because I can use it with just water and as I said before, it mixes easily. It adds extra nutrition and protein and is not full of sugar. No, it won't taste like a milkshake if that is what one is expecting. I add it to my cereal as well.

They aren't samples. I bought single serving packages of the 'Smoothie' (not the Shake') at first before buying a larger size. The flavour depends on his tastes. I've tried all except the tropical tango (because I can't have mango although it sounds good). I found the single packs in boxes of 10's on the Canadian website store but the website store prices are really high compared to what I pay at my local natural foods store. I pay $1.99 for a single pack and $1.69 on sale; The 280 gr size is the same price as the website but it is often on sale at my local store.
I'd try using the store finder link myvega.com/find-a-store or the contact us. there is a 1800 number myvega.com/contact

I went on the Vega site and couldn't find the samples to try. Do you have a flavor that is best. Getting it for my son in college who can only mix with water. Thanks.

Over the years I've tried several different protein powders including soy, whey and rice. Recently I came across the Vega brand and in particular the 'Smoothie'. It mixes easily, travels well and can even be added to your cereal to increase protein at breakfast. It is soy, dairy and gluten free and is vegan. It comes in several flavours. You can even buy small packages of various flavours to try it out before buying the large size. myvega.com/products/vega-energizing-

Ahh I bet that smells a lot better because it has xylitol, vanilla and stevia in it, The kind I use is just pea protein with nothing else. Not the best smell by itself, lol. If xylitol didn't upset my system I'd give the pure matters one a try, but I guess I'll have to stick with my (stinky) stuff. emoticon

I just happened to be reading this thread because I am glutened again. I ate miso tonight of all things!!!!!! ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!! Anyway........................
I just got a couple samples of a pea protein by Pure Matters.
It is.......non GMO
dairy free
gluten free
vegan
cholesterol free
25 grams of protein and only 5 carbs. I did not think it stunk but I mixed it with strawberries into a smoothie and liked it. Do a search on SP and earn some points. Search for pure matters protein.

Welcome to this great gluten control team, JAH1234! I had hoped you would land here for more winning g-f ideas! Gut pain and weight lose woes are commiserated here.

I adore organic rice protein. I get a big $30 container from my health food store and refrigerated it by putting a little in an easy to scoop jar with the majority of the volume in the back of my refrigerator box. I use it for quick meals on the run like blender smoothies or more protein for cold cereals on the days I do not want to do much chopping or cooking.

I went on a microscopic hunt for all the things that stole my sleep and send my low moods deep. I have appreciated all the true facts and feelings shared by teammates here. I can seriously avoid all my no-no’s. I have found ‘doctor approved’ nutritional alternative foods and supplements I can live with. I can eat comfortably. I have a blend of MD and naturopathic advisors to secure safe sound nutritional and hormonal less pain causing solutions. We are winning.

The pain and swellings can be traced to actual reactions. I may always be exposed to rare cross contamination events. I have learned to do much of the changes like elimination diet research myself; this too, is pleasing my doctors.

The rice protein powder flavor is mild and does not drown out the nice flavors of the foods I eat with it. My health reviews at my doctor appointments have organic rice protein powder as a success tool when whey-soy-wheat and other no-no option protein powders and additives have failed me. Good luck and I hope to see you eating and shrinking well, too!

You are the happiness master of your own mind.
Thought is an active dynamic energy to harmonize and corrolate good.

Is my resistance to change really that strong?

I've tried hemp protein power - a vanilla one back a few years ago. The company escapes me. It was nothing incredible, probably why I don't use it. I try to get my protein now through just foods.

Just to warn you though it doesn't smell that great if you just open up the tub and smell it by itself. LOL But I really do think it's fine blended up! I've even mixed it into oatmeal before, but I could detect it. Not enough to where I stopped using it, but I'd go the smoothie route first.

Thanks so much Amber! I'll check at our local health food outlets and see what I can find before I go the Amazon route. I can't wait to try it!

If mixed with just milk I can totally taste it, but in a smoothie (especially with banana and/or strawberries in it)- not at all! It's called Now Protein Powder, I found it Amazon so I could link it to you, but I just buy it at my local health food market. Not a bad price either! www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Pea-Protein

I have not tried pea protein, but I do use plain brown rice protein on occasion. Hemp wrecked me, too much of the wrong kind of fiber! emoticon

Amber - what is the name of your pea protein? I LOVE that it has no added sugar, as I don't think a fruit smoothie needs any more sweetness than the fruit! And seriously, you can't taste it?

I personally love pea protein. It has exactly one ingredient 100% non-gmo pea protein. And I like that it has no taste as long as I mix it into a smoothie. I add coconut milk with whatever fruit or veggies I feel like and the protein powder sometimes cocoa powder too. Yum!

I use rice protein and add flax seed or chia or hemp seed for added protein along with nutritional yeast in my morning smoothie. I just add fruit for sweetness and no other sweeteners. (I avoid dairy also and have egg allergies in the family so I don't want to overdo eggs either).

I gave up my favorite whey protein when I discovered my dairy sensitivity. Now that I've found a soy protein powder that I really like, soy is out too. I'm so very bummed because I don't want a ton of added sugar and I'm not crazy about straight stevia. The soy protein powder I was using used a mix of stevia and evaporated cane juice so the sugar content was not too high. Oh- and I can't do aspartame and prefer not to do sucralose.

While I don't really NEED a protein powder, I really have a hard time getting protein (I have a hard time eating meat more than 1X/day and I'm sick to death of rice & beans, quinoa and egg whites) it's nice to just have around to add to a smoothie or something.

Any suggestions? What do you like? Hemp? Rice?
