I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant long before the subject of gluten intolerance entered the picture. After I had been GF for several months I found that I was better able to handle diary. Lately, however, I have been having trouble with skim milk, so I switched to 1% and am doing better.

I was slightly lactose intolerant before but went away after going GF.
One thing my Dr told me about lactose is the lower fat the milk is the more lactose there is with higher fat the lower lactose but of course more fat and calories - which is the worst evil?

I was lactose intolerant when I ate gluten. Way too many digestive and other issues. I stayed away from milk for a long time. I was finally able to handle milk for about a year. I was diagnosed 3 years ago. My allergist told me to try organic milk. I just weaned myself off of that a few months ago. I eat yogurt cheese and ice cream. I don't cheat on the GF diet at all. Sometimes I accidentally get some on occasion. I was told it takes about a year GF to be able to handle dairy.

I went GF Feb. 16th 2010. I felt that there was still something wrong about April and tried casein free also. It was clearly the problem, but I have been in denial about it since because I love my cheese more than gluten! My tolerance has increased but I still am miserable and noone wants to be near me on dairy, even with supplements! emoticon

I should also note that I was a big fan of Atkins type diets and ate a lot of cheese and yogurt with no issues until I bombarded my body with whole grain gluten on the "Eat Clean" diet. That is how I got diagnosed...

I don't cheat at all ever and still can't handle dairy! Enzyme supplements don't really help. I never had an issue either until after my diagnosis. I have heard after longer GF I may be able to handle it again, so that gives me some hope!

Has this happened to you? Celiac BIL (last time I talked to him, he was cheating -- too busy to make a lunch and grabbing hospital cafeteria burritos for one), is complaining of lactose intolerance GI symptoms now. I can't help but wonder how gf he is, cause if he isn't, it's obvious why he's lactose intolerant. He never was before his dx.

However, I don't take anything for granted, and want to hear your experiences.
