Thanks, I'm over it, but hard lesson to learn about paying more attention. That was the last time I've been blind-sided - my own fault. But I-Hop is a never-never land now. (I used to eat there a lot - pancakes and sausage - contributed to my gf problem which I'd not figured out then.) Echo

Had the I-HOP experience, too. As I read the menu it did say they used some of their batter in the omelets. I specifically asked to have an omelet with only eggs. Well, I realized half way through - I didn't pay attention right away - they had still used their batter. Needless to say,I was really sick for at least a day. Never again. They have absolutely nothing else except maybe a salad - if I am going to spend money on a salad I will go to a good place with a really good salad. Echo

Kate I really like Pamela's Ginger Snaps. Seems like just a couple really satisfy.

I had heard about pancake batter in the omelettes. I don't trust alot of places to eat out. Once I get sick there I never want to go back! We bought a camper this summer thinking that way I can still do my own cooking. I have always cooked from scratch (even learned to cook on a wood cook stove-it was great fun) and really do like to cook.

Mark I use my fryer like that also. Just once in a while. Really gives you lots of options.

Charlene how are you? I have wondered how you are doing?

A fryer is not a bad thing if you use it in moderation. I love using my fryer but I only use it once or twice a month.

Thanks Mark...it is not the pancakes I crave...I do have a mix. It is all the junk that I used to get at restaurants in general...fries, onion rings, wings, cheeseburgers, pizza, subs...I also am casein free and it makes it even tougher. I have not yet acquired a taste for vegan cheese! emoticon I want to buy a fryer so I can make my own things, but keep talking myself out of it because of the calories! LOL

I second the request, Mark. I used the Gluten Free Pantry mix and made sandwich rolls. They turned out pretty good, especially when fresh. I read somewhere that you should put your bread right on the oven rack to get a bit crustier after it has baked in the pan. I know many use bread machines, but for me they don't work, as they are all menu driven, which doesn't work when one can't see the display readout. Oh, well, I've had pretty good luck with some mixes. My first attempt at scratch was a disaster!
Take care.

Charlene: I tried making bear claws. they turned out all right. I baked them instead of fried them so they were healthier that way. I will have to see if I can find the recipe.

Cindy, you can make pancakes really easy. Just our discussion about IHOP made me want pancakes. So I made a batch up using my gluten free flour mix and some buckwheat flour. They were good and made every one in the house happy.

Katy, I think it might depend on which variety of MiDel Cookies you have. Seems like the ginger snap ones are not as sweet and I use them for cheesecake crust.

Hi Kate and Cindy. You talk about craving some junk foods. I have been gf for now a year and the one thing that I have been craving is a big bear claw. I do not know why as I did not eat them that often. I guess just knowing that you cannot have one is what sets it off. Oh, I could have one but I DO NOT LIKE getting sick which I would.

They say it will get better DO YOU THINK LOL

You know, I have my junk fixes. One is the Trader Joe's pancakes, which I just love. If I'm just totally needing pre-GF stuff, I eat a few Cheetos. A few go a long way. Same for reduced fat potato chips.
I find a few brands of GF cookies so disgustingly sweet that I can't stand them. The MiDell (may be spelling it wrong) are way too sweet. I'm a Pamela's person.

I really can't think of anything I would even want there now...used to love the glutinous goodies..the pancakes made with cream of wheat, but otherwise I prefer fresher foods now. We really aren't missing anything but crap there!

I do not know when or why IHOP decided to start adding pancake batter to there eggs but it was a great disappointment. The last time I went I asked if they could make me an omelet with out the pancake batter and they said that it would not be a problem. Well! I spent the next 5 days feeling very sick and refuse to go there again. I used to love IHOP. Not any more!

Thanks for this I would not have thought of eggs! I do try to eat out as little as possible at this point because I almost always have an issue with something.

Margaret I agree...a lot of places tell you to order without seasonings. At that point what am I paying a restaraunt for? I can make it better at home! I haven't gone to a few places because of that.

I always ask them to cook my food in a separate pan but stick mainly to a local restaurant (not a chain) that knows me and my dietary needs. My husband can get his pancakes and I don't get sick

wow, thanks for the info. I knew sometimes there are coatings on Potatoes but I had no idea about the omelettes. We do not know all the hidden junk in all the food we eat. No wonder so many people have gluten problems. A pet peeve I have is now so many restaurants have "gluten Free" menus or items but in many places it just the regular menu made without all their MSG powder spice enhancers. My point being the food tasting good is all fake. When you take all those fake different flavaored powders and serve the real food you can see the actual poor quality of the food and no attempt by many restaurants to make it taste good using natural flavors like real onion or garlic or fresh or dried pure herbs and spices. Makes you realize what you are really paying for at a restaurant.

Thanks for the information!!

I haven't eaten in an IHOP in over 20 years, but occasionally do hit a Denny's as we drive cross country to see family. I don't think I've eaten any egg dishes there, but any place like that is one where I'll ask from now on.
It's depressing to think you're doing everything right, and find you've been had once again! I get a bit cavalier sometimes, thinking I'm sure of being careful. It's a good reminder.
I was in a restaurant where they had sweet potato fries. The waitress insisted they were GF. I didn't order them, but my friend did. I tried one, and could tell they were coated with wheat. Arrrrgh!

I like their omelets but have to be careful with some of them.

yes, that is one of the hidden surprises when you are getting acqainted with the gf diet.
For years in the 1980's I was exposed and didn't realize that was causing the problem.

My daughter is new to GF and lives in a fairly small town. Their family went to IHOP yesterday. She knew to ask about the potatoes, but was smart enough to say she was gluten intollerant and asked what was safe. She assumed she could get an omlette with no problem. No! They make their lovely spinach, mushroom omlette and all the other so-called healthy (and not so healthy) creations fluffier by whipping them up with pancake batter!
She was told that the scrambled egg batter was premixed as well. The waitress went back and made them do a special order. Only their fried eggs are cracked fresh!
Don't know about other places like Village Inn or chains we don't have here. But, check before you have a big surprise! BTW, the potatoes there at IHOP are not coated in flour. My daughter had a waitress who had recently been educated about GF and made it her business to do her homework. Needless to say, she got a very nic e tip.
