emoticon Tess, you crack me up. SPmail me your address, and I'll mail onen to you after "I" look through it! For all the time we've spent together, it'd be a nice orange reminder on your table/shelf. :P

Reading Chris Downie's story here, at SP, was motivating to me when I read it; I likened his exercise routine of "X-ing" out calendar days to how I went gf. Every day was a triumph when I was counting (3 months at least, but more likely 6 mos).

I AM motivated by weight loss stories -- I see (thanks Bailey) there are SOME in there. I can always read more online ...

I bought the book and am almost completely through it. I guess I didn't think about it too much from a GF perspective but just as a good read and a great motivator I give it the thumbs up. I feel very fired up about setting and reaching goals in many areas of my life. I was already fairly on track with my weight loss goals and then have sort of been set back with finding out about the CD but I really like what Chris has to say about life goals in general. I recommend the book if you haven't bought it yet.

Apparently, the book is added reinforcement for some members!

I have not read it yet, but truthfully, I only bought it because I wanted a shirt in the spark store and I got a $20 gift certificate emoticon

I will read it eventually. Yes there are pictures in the center, I did not count them, but I believe 10 or more success stories.

As for what is the harm replacing a GF bagel in the menu plans, calories galore! I have found that GF hamburger rolls are more calories than the burger itself! In a 1200 calorie diet range, your carbs should not go below 120. My recommendation right now is 178-257. I range between 75-170. sorry, best I can do. Apples are a great source of carbs and natural caffine to boot!

didn't bought the book as it's hard to come on my side of the ocean. As I'm a walking diseaster in food intollerences and allergies, I hardly ever bother to look in to "diet" books

FYI: I finished the book last night (still working my way through the appendices). Aside from the menu recommendations and "Mix and match" meals in the appendices and on the supplemental website, I don't see anything that is in opposition with what I know of the GF diet. It does recommend percentages of protein, fat, and carbs that you should get at each meal, but the only gluten recommendations are in the meals & 2 days of menus provided in the appendices.

Hope this makes sense, I stopped in to write this between my morning work out and shower, so I'm not totally awake yet! emoticon

emoticon See you later!

I did not buy the book and also I noticed here that it keeps wanting you to up your carbs and that includes allot of grains. So I just eat allot of veggies and fruits, along with meats and dairy(at times) If what doctors say about eating allot of red meat that my cholesterol should be going up but it has been going down. Three years ago it was 177, last year it was 166 and this year it is 145(overall). So I must be doing something right because I don't eat allot of grains but every once in a while. When I get tired of eggs and bacon or cottage cheese.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

I bought it before I got put on a GF diet.

I'm about halfway through and I don't see anything that conflicts with what (little) I know about living GF.

I was disappointed with the menu planner that is provided on the book's site - the few meals I looked at all include a wheat product as a major part of the meal (ie, breakfast: a glass of skim milk, a bagel, peanut butter, and a banana). I realize substitutions can be made, but when it's set up as "Here's a weekly plan for a 1200 calorie diet" I simply don't know enough to understand what impact substituting a GF Bagel will have on that meal.

I didn't buy it, because I wanted to see what others with CD thought of it first.

emoticon - if you've purchased/read Chris Downie's book, please share your impressions. It's in my amazon cart, but I haven't purchased it. Is there any gluten-freeness about it?
