Thanks, everyone! My stomach is starting to feel a little better. Still a little tender but not as much as it was. My appetite is really strange though. Last night I was at a party, brought my own food and ate a ton---chips, desert, the works. But today I have no appetite at all and have barely eaten a thing. Ditto for the rest of the week before yesterday, barely eating much. Not sure what's going on. I guess I am still bloated from the wheat because I feel 'full' or something?
When I originally went GF/CF 4 years ago, I lost 15 lbs first 2 weeks. (Not on purpose, it just happens that way)
look for hidden gluten and you may want to try cutting out all refined sugar if you are 100% positive all gluten is out. In "The Gluten Connection" the author talks about other possible sources of pain/bloating, etc to try and eliminate after all glutens are gone
Low iron can be a symptom, since gluten intolerence/Celiac Disease can hinder absorption of nutrients. As far as losing 1 1/2 LBS in a week when cutting wheat, when I went GF I lost about 15 LBS in under 2 weeks just from inflammation, my body went into a major purging cycle. Try looking for the hidden wheat/gluten and you'll probably feel even better.
The doctor said it sounds like wheat and/or gluten intolerance at minimum and possibly celiac especially given my family history, but he won't know until the blood panel comes back. He did a preliminary scan that turned up low iron and is not sure if that's a symptom of something bigger or just low iron, so he wants me to come back in two weeks and he'll have the rest of the tests by then.
I was having skin and GI symptoms for awhile, but what finally prompted the doctor visit was a stomachache that wouldn't go away, so I was hoping once I cut out the wheat, it would. I was eating 'normally' (i.e. wheat stuff) until last Wednesday (i.e. a week ago) when I went to the doctor. I stopped eating it after the doctor's appointment. I still have the stomachache, mostly on the left side but it's very tender in the spot sort of under the ribs on both sides. Should it take this long to go away? The only maybe problem was Monday when I took a vitamin that I was testing to see if it would be okay, it has no obvious ingredients in it that seemed like a problem but I was wondering if some of my itchiness from before was undeclared corn in it and thought I would give it a test on a day I was eating nothing unusual.
Also, fwiw, I had been stalled in my weight loss for ages and it turned out to be bloat from the GI symptoms because I lost three inches in my waist right away. I checked this morning on the scale and have actually lost 1.5 pounds---since last Wednesday, when I cut out the wheat completely. To be fair, I have been perhaps eating smaller portions because of the mild stomachache, and also a lot of my 'junk food' calories came from wheat-based stuff (cookies, etc) so cutting that out will make a difference as far as weight loss goes. But 1.5 pounds since last Wednesday? Isn't that a lot?
I can post a few days worth of eating if needed. I have a record of that stuff.
