I think adding our own things to the list is the only way to go but in order for us to be able to look it up we must list everything with the letters GF at the end. That way we will be able to look up carrotsGF and know it is our menu. The rest should be easy to do even if you want to do the 0,1, 2, 3 system like Weight Watchers. Divide Calories by 50, Fat by 12 and Fibre by 5. Round the numbers of all answers. Add Calories and Fibre together and from that answer subtract the fat and you have the points.

Everyone who contributes needs to have scales and proper measuring tools. ie. measuring cups, spoons, scales.

What I'd like to do would be to add my own foods with calories, fat, carbs, etc. so that I could get a realistic daily calorie count - without being able to add GF foods and the CALORIES ON A DAILY BASIS, this is NOT useful.

Speaking of the waffle, I've found some pretty good gluten-free pre-packaged waffles. I don't use the Spark People plans, personally, I'd rather choose my own foods and just use the tracking information to see how well my choices are balanced, then work on improving my own choices. But I think they are a great option to have for those who wish to use them, and wish they would offer some more gluten-free options. Since I don't use them often, how feasible is it to substitute gluten-free items when possible? Just a thought, since I know I've had some pretty decent gluten-free frozen waffles ...

Here is an updated list so far:

Apparently they are considering it, their stumbling blocks are that the aren't sure how they can put together a diet that has enuf variety or make it nutritionally balanced. Which in my opinion, is just another reason why there's such a big need for a Spark gluten free diet plan.

The diff between the gluten sensitive and say diabetics, is the black/white nature of gluten intolerance. For us, there is no "just one bite" or slip ups allowed. So there should not be all that much of an issue with drawing up a plan that does not include the grains we are sensitive to. A condition like diabetes, there's all sorts of grey in that scenario... degrees of diabetes... so they would be putting themselves at some risk by suggesting a diet that ALL diabetics could follow.

But with us, its simple... no wheat, rye, oats, spelt, barley. Only rice, corn and quinoa.

Anyways...

I have also written to magazines that have diet plan suggestions and requested that someone make a "restricted-diet diet" feature to show how to modify the meal suggestions for people who are GF, diabetic, etc. I went through their list, and of the 30 or so meal suggestions they had made, all but two had wheat.

Sigh... we're rare but we're not nonexistent, and we need dietary assistance even more than some! :-/

It works if you do it. It doesn't if you don't. It's that simple.

Having a diet plan ready to go to make the transition to eating gluten free easier could potentially benefit many, many people!

I've checked so many diet sites and no one addresses the difficulties faced by those with severe dietary issues. I would welcome a diet specifically for those with Celiac's disease. Gluten-free diets would be very helpful, as the average person with Celiac's disease gains 30 lbs. within 12 months after diagnosis!

As far as their difficulties in finding something nutritionally balanced/with enough variety, I know there are at least a few large organizations now providing support for those with Celiac. Many of those offer recipes and tips for gluten-free diets, and I am certain it wouldn't be too difficult to find someone with these organizations who could collaborate on a meal-plan. They might not ask for much in return except some mutual advertising. I don't know if anyone has proposed this to the powers-that-be at Spark, but it sounds like we should put them in touch with some of the right contacts, if anyone knows who.

I have been waiting for Spark to come out with a weight loss and meal plans for those of us with this problem. So, please add my name to the petition!
I agree that there should be no problem with spark coming up with a gluten free menu, especially one that is friendly and designed to be used on the menu tracker. This would greatly help all of us that have celiac disease or other gluten intolerance issues. Thank you for starting this petition! Please add me to the list!

Here is an updated list so far:

thx to all that have added their names to our list!

Apparently they are considering it, their stumbling blocks are that the aren't sure how they can put together a diet that has enuf variety or make it nutritionally balanced. Which in my opinion, is just another reason why there's such a big need for a Spark gluten free diet plan.

The diff between the gluten sensitive and say diabetics, is the black/white nature of gluten intolerance. For us, there is no "just one bite" or slip ups allowed. So there should not be all that much of an issue with drawing up a plan that does not include the grains we are sensitive to. A condition like diabetes, there's all sorts of grey in that scenario... degrees of diabetes... so they would be putting themselves at some risk by suggesting a diet that ALL diabetics could follow.

But with us, its simple... no wheat, rye, oats, spelt, barley. Only rice, corn and quinoa.

Anyways...

I find it extremely difficult to find recipes that are both, as I have both. Discussing this with my Endocrinologist and Dietitian, they are starting to see a trend of people having both. To have the option of having both would make my journey of weight loss much easier. ps sorry for the glitch of not adding the list....this is my first post hopefully I will learn quickly. If you are like me, you love the SparkPeople meal plans because they are the nutritional guidelines to balancing your meals, include creative ideas, and make meal planning and nutrition tracking easy. This is one of the main attractions to the SparkPeople site (the built-in nutritionist), but we HAVE to eat gluten-free. Even though we "use the meal plans," we can only look at them in confusion of how to translate the nutrition to our own lifestyle and we end up entering all our own foods, non-nutritionally balanced.

thx to all that have added their names to our list!

Apparently they are considering it, their stumbling blocks are that the aren't sure how they can put together a diet that has enuf variety or make it nutritionally balanced. Which in my opinion, is just another reason why there's such a big need for a Spark gluten free diet plan.

The diff between the gluten sensitive and say diabetics, is the black/white nature of gluten intolerance. For us, there is no "just one bite" or slip ups allowed. So there should not be all that much of an issue with drawing up a plan that does not include the grains we are sensitive to. A condition like diabetes, there's all sorts of grey in that scenario... degrees of diabetes... so they would be putting themselves at some risk by suggesting a diet that ALL diabetics could follow.

But with us, its simple... no wheat, rye, oats, spelt, barley. Only rice, corn and quinoa.

If you are like me, you love the SparkPeople meal plans because they are the nutritional guidelines to balancing your meals, include creative ideas, and make meal planning and nutrition tracking easy. This is one of the main attractions to the SparkPeople site (the built-in nutritionist), but we HAVE to eat gluten-free. Even though we "use the meal plans," we can only look at them in confusion of how to translate the nutrition to our own lifestyle and we end up entering all our own foods, non-nutritionally balanced.

"Gluten sensitivity (NCGS) or gluten related disease (GRD) may be a new paradigm that is hard for some people to swallow, especially when I suggest that it affects as much as 10% to 30% of the population," so why isn't it an option for the meal plans? (celiac.com)
