A GF meal plan option on SparkPeople is a great idea. More foods identified as GF would be helpful in the "Add a Food" menu. Add me to the petition!

so, this was the reply I got, I think it means they are acknowledging that their server received an email from my server, not that a real person has looked at it and considered it:

I'm new on this team and was diagnosed summer of 2006. I don't need a menu plan, but it would be handy and easier to track my progress on this site. How do I sign it?

Best, lhemenway

There are LOTS of dietary plans that could be programmed into the nutrition tracker in addition to GF: GF/CF, dairy-free, yeast-free, additive-free. I could go on. The cost for SP is in the software programming vs the advertising dollars they are able to raise to cover that cost. Either that or get some programming geek that is a member to go nuts for a week or two (a month?) to program everything in while working with all the other people necessary to get the balance right for everyone. I'd like to see them program it so you could actually select these things with checkboxes because there are multiple dietary programs I follow to remain feeling wonderful inside. I've added my name to the list.

First of all, Chris sunk 5 million of his money into this as an INVESTMENT. It is free for us to use, but he is probably making tons and tons of money with all of the advertisers that want to advertise here because of the millions of free users. It would actually be a good investment for him to add the gluten-free meal plans; if so many people are affected by gluten-intolerance and need direction on healthy living, they would come to SparkPeople for the gluten-free meal plans and drive up the advertising revenue even more. Adding on a gluten-free meal option probably is not that hard. He just has to hire a nutritionist that is knowledgeable about gluten-intolerance to give the major rules in the diet and how to eat a balanced diet. These rules then are programmed into the network by the computer geek and they automatically generate meal plans.

I realize that if I had the time or the resources to come up with these meal plans for myself, I could. But at this moment I have neither of those things, and I know tons of other people who feel the same way. I have been on this diet for a year and still haven't figured it out completely, and my health is suffering. The entire purpose of this website is a tool for bettering our overall health, so I just thought it would be nice!

Keep copying-pasting-signing the petition if you want to please!

I agree with this being a good idea, but also we are big people and can figure this out by ourselves too. Has everyone watched the video they want you to watch? That Chris sunk over 5 million $'s of his own money into this to have it FREE. I personally feel guilty stating that we should have a GF meal plan option, it is not as easy to do as a Vegetarian one.

I also disagree that GF items are higher in calories. This can be done for very similiar calories, you just need to find them... I have been GF since June '08 and I am still learning but I have successfully made my own cookies and bread. yum.. bread!

I do my own meal plans too. I don't really need this feature for my own use. But I realize that a lot of people on this site are not used to buying and preparing their own food entirely from scratch, and so this could be useful to them. That is why I have signed the petition.

When I first joined Sparks I thought it would be a nice feature and wrote them. They gave a number of reason for not doing it and they were very valid. Therefore, I didn't sign. Good idea, I just don't think it will happen. Personally I don't find it an issue to do my own meal plans.

I know we have a lot more members on this team than have shown up here so far...so where is everybody with regard to this petition? Do we consider this a worthwhile effort or not? Personally, I think the idea is a good one.

Please add my name. I joined SP about a week ago and e-mailed the help desk about this very thing. They stated I could substitute as my diet allowed, but I think that is lame since people vegans can have a meal planned around their needs. I hope they listen and a GF meal plan is started.
If you are like me, you love the SparkPeople meal plans because they are the nutritional guidelines to balancing your meals, include creative ideas, and make meal planning and nutrition tracking easy. This is one of the main attractions to the SparkPeople site (the built-in nutritionist), but we HAVE to eat gluten-free. Even though we "use the meal plans," we can only look at them in confusion of how to translate the nutrition to our own lifestyle and we end up entering all our own foods, non-nutritionally balanced.

"Gluten sensitivity (NCGS) or gluten related disease (GRD) may be a new paradigm that is hard for some people to swallow, especially when I suggest that it affects as much as 10% to 30% of the population," so why isn't it an option for the meal plans? (celiac.com)

Yes, having gluten-free options in recipes is definitely a step, however, having meal plans is essential. We (10-30% of our population) need meal plans that are gluten free to advise us how to balance meals and give us the ease that everyone else has with prepared meal plans. Recipes can be found anywhere on the internet, what makes SparkPeople Nutrition special, is that it combines the recipes and different foods we can eat into a plan to guide us into health!

I agree w/ the petition, but I COMPLETELY DISAGREE with this statement: 'we end up entering all our own foods, non-nutritionally balanced.'

My food is nutritionally balanced, what are you entering that is not?

Hey everyone--
If you are like me, you love the SparkPeople meal plans because they are the nutritional guidelines to balancing your meals, include creative ideas, and make meal planning and nutrition tracking easy.
