My issues go beyond being GF, I am also allergic to iodine which knocks foods like shrimp, lobster, and crab off my list. The crazy thing is my father pulled lobsters. My husband says that's why he married me!

Thanks for the encouragement with Gluten Free Encounters www.gfencounters.blogspot.com . I'm hoping that over time, the reviews posted there will have an impact on how those of with dietary issues are treated.
I went to a local Olive Garden (I live in NC) when they first offered GF options. It was terrible. That was a couple of year's ago, and with a Carraba's across the street, I haven't gone back.

I spend 2-3 weeks each year in South Padre Island, TX (which is right across the bridge from Port Isabel, TX) I can honestly say that it seems none of the cooks in that area know ANYTHING about gluten free. And the people at McD's would be the people who couldn't get a job at one of the nicer establishments. OOOPS Sorry, I shouldn't diss someone for working at McD's. I hope you found some nice places to eat. I have had good luck at the Shrimp Haus, Louie's, Palmettos, and a few others. I was very thankful to have my Triumph Dining card at some of the other places.

I am glad you had a good experience at Marcello's. I love their shrimp there. I enjoyed reading your blog and hope you made it to a few other island restaurants!

Good for yoU! Nothing makes me angrier that to be treated like an idiot when I ask for ingrediants! Aside from the occational Sweet Tea, I stay completely away from Mickey D's. (they claim there isn't enough American beef to support their chain so they buy S. American beef, we're Montana cattle producers, so that's why I boycot!) At any rate, I'm glad you got a positive response! BTW, I don't know if you have one in your area, but did you know that the Olive Garden now offeres GF menus? Horray!
