Seriously trying to avoid corn has just seemed like too much trouble over the years--it's in everything! For a while, I used Tom's Toothpaste (I think that's the name) since it was the only one I could find w/o any corn/derivatives. 8-( Linda C

They are starting to make "plastic" containers and water bottles using corn. I have a reaction to them. It should be stated very boldly that the container is made with corn! I had never thought of fumes from cars using corn fuel. ugh!

Did anyone read the first link on that google search for "corn allergy" ... www.cornallergens.com/symptom
s/corn-al
lergy-symptoms-history.php

... you could substitute "gluten" ...except I see no mention of villi anywhere :). There's a forum, which might be helpful.

I know someone who is highly allergic to rice! Go figure. Corn, as mentioned is a top allergin. You can find GF products with no corn as an ingredient.

It would be interesting for me to try organic corn to see if it makes a difference. I get a very sore throat quickly if I have anything with corn syrup in it. Also, once I got a sore throat and my lips were tingling. I hadn't had any corn syrup but I found out that there was corn oil in the new lipstick that I had put on and I was having a reaction. I check everything now, even lotions that I put on.

I have a gf friend who bloats on corn, so she doesn't eat it. I've saw a fascinating video on You Tube from a mom whose son has autism and as he went gfcf she showed pics of his healing intestines. He could "do" non-GMO/organic corn, but only that. Maybe after she feels better she could try that if she wants to open more doors. I'm unsure what else it is in the corn that might make one reactive.

I agree with Nomad re: rice. Though people can be and are allergic to about anything.

Here's a link for "corn allergy" google search.
Maybe she can find more helpful info there:

ELEPHANTSCHILD, Corn allergy and sensitivy is one of the top allergens. Also, I very much doubt that the rice is cross contaminated if it is cooked at home and is not from bulk bins.
Many people have rice allergies/sensitivies.
I always knew when something wasn't right even though I did not have a specific allergic reaction or could even describe it.
If your mother feels she has an issue with it. There is no need to get certified gf rice. In fact, I think it might be hard to find.
Good luck, Barb

I'm not sure exactly what I am, since I was tested for food allergies years ago and haven't done anything since. But, having said that, I tested as allergic to wheat, corn, soy, rice, tomatoes and green beans. From what I'm hearing from you guys, it seems like I'm a good candidate for going gluten-free, but I haven't been to the doctor yet for my annual physical, etc., so I'll see what she has to say. Does anyone know of a link between gluten-intolerance and corn intolerance? My mom is pretty sure she's allergic to corn (not just gluten contaminated corn) because she had corn on the cob fresh from the husk and that seemed to aggravate the same symptoms of gluten-intolerance.

She also thought she had an issue with rice but I've convinced her to wait until she can try certified gluten-free rice to be sure it wasn't just cross-contaminated.
