I recommend also doing a check by user name for those who have replied on this topic. You'll find many more foods that you may use but SparkPeople does not have in their data base. This will give you a larger database.
Checking for gluten free or gf is a a good idea but when I did this before importing my foods, there was only one page of GF foods and I have 4 pages of foods shared. Many don't say gf or gluten free becasue it is not part of the name and I would only enter gluten free foods.
I found when I imported that most of us put GF or the name brand, so I did a search for Gluten Free, and GF and was able to import a majority of the foods you guys added. I will look by name brand next....Too bad we didn't have this sooner. I noticed that many of us had added the same foods!
I exported my additions, and All of mine are GF. Now, if only they would make GF options for the meal plans...Has anyone ever mentioned this as a wish for us? Maybe they just don't know that we might like this....If it hasn't been done before, I would be willing to stick my neck out and ask the moderators of the site....
Great info/news! SP recently changed how we import our food "favorites" to other members.
We can now share our gluten-free food entries to our "favorites" pantry without SPmailing. Best of all, we can import now by Username, not just food name.
Hint: if you can, use "gluten free" in your food description.
I wish I'd known/understood this and had written "gluten free" for mine. At the time I entered them, they were for ME and I KNEW they were gf. If I had to do it over, I'd also mark my mainstream (which I also shared) foods gluten free. And as always, just reminding: make sure it's STILL gf. If in doubt, do without.
We have all sorts of Sparkers here who are transitioning to gf and may be sharing gf and NON-gf foods ... so be careful when checking off what you want to import if you want only gf.
If you've shared your food, share your name on this thread so newbies and/or others can take a look and use your info. Please indicate whether some entries are non-gf.
I'm going to share this in the team Welcome letter, but here are the instructions for importing: go to:
Orange START tab, MY NUTRITION tab, ADD A FOOD link, IMPORT FROM OTHER MEMBERS link, Search by: FOOD NAME (if you know your food), or USERNAME (to get a grocery list of foods for your pantry). Entries are not case-sensitive.
Check the entries you want, then click IMPORT.
Let me know if this works for you -- it's new.
