Eat small to almost to where you're snacking. Especially your meals. I found that out here recently. Cup your hands together especially chips or cereal and that is pretty much the amount that I eat and I'm full. And I've lost more than 10 pounds that way.

Don't leave it up to chance. Have a plan. Schedule a time during the day when you know you'll get your workout in, and treat it like an important appointment that cannot be missed. Plan out meals. Know when and what you're going to eat through out the week. I will double recipes and prepare snacks, so that my food is easy to grab. This way if I'm running short on time I'll be less likely go for something that's not as healthy.

Honor and celebrate every success no matter how small. You will build momentum quicker.

You know KMF that's exactly why I got rid of my Facebook. That thirty minutes spent checking useless status updates was much better spent with my children playing outside. And Sparkpeople I check at work during the day on break and during down time, and I log in my breakfast and lunch for the day as soon as I get to work so I don't have to worry about it. That way I don't have Internet time to worry about at home. I log my dinner after the kids are in bed, so that frees up my time for family time and workout time. You're on the right track! :)

Do you want my honest answer? I need to be away from the computer. Once I get in the mode of moving more, I start feeling so much better, and it's then that things start working together: I want to eat healthier, I feel like doing better today than I did yesterday, I sleep better, I drink more. It all just comes together. I am connecting with SP each day, check e-mails, etc, but am staying away from the social media, the pinterest kind of sites, don't open the weekly adds from favorite stores, etc. and find that I have so much more time for more important things in my life! Like fitness!!! And I've been seeing the scale moving one pound at a time!

My KEURIG helps my cravings! - - when I'm about to raid the pantry or fridge, I quickly start the KEURIG, take out a cute mug, and make some green tea. I'll cut up a lemon to pass time for my tea and maybe cut up some fresh fruit while I'm at it for my after tea snack.

Don't cut out ENTIRELY, and substitute.

A lot of people I know of have made the mistake of thinking that the diet route of cutting out something entirely from their diet is best and then they fall off the wagon. I cut our regular soda, but I allow myself 1-2 diet sodas a week for the flavor, or I will grab a bottle of Dasani or Skinny Girl water flavoring. I keep myself mindful of the fact that it tricks me into feeling full, and try to only drink the diet soda with a very big meal at dinner, so I can remind myself "Hey...you can't REALLY be hungry. You just ate a banquet King Henry would have been proud of!" That way, I haven't cut soda out entirely, had a small treat, but had it responsibly.
And with the water flavoring, I do that more often than not as a substitute. When I am in that very odd sweet tooth frame of mind, I'll pull up the nutty baked apple with raisins recipe from Spark Recipes and fix it. Hits the right sweet tooth mode and is much healthier.

Just finding the right thing to trick your brain into thinking you're cheating on your healthy track, when you're really not doing that much damage, plus allowing yourself a "crazy day" every once in awhile to keep yourself honest, is a big help in keeping yourself from falling off the health wagon. :)

Fill up on fiber-rich foods. Items like oatmeal, fruit, fiber bars, whole wheat options etc is where I've always benefitted when it comes to weight loss. In my oatmeal or yogurt or cereal I'll add flax for more fiber intake. Keeps me fuller longer so I have time to think about what I'm planning to eat healthy next.

Making eating right and loosing weight a competition I am so competitive it annoys me sometimes but it motivates me :-)
Motivates me to exercise the most or to find the healthiest food or to loose te most weight or build the most mucle I need to get my husband back in the competition lol
The only thing about being competitive with me is I have to watch myself so I don't over do it but it makes loosing and getting healthy more fun lol

Doing workouts that I enjoy doing! Keeps me motivated and focused. If I feel that it's too much, I will not do it at all! For example, I know a lot of people love P90X. I bought it and did not enjoy it at all! I ended up giving it away.

So, do something you enjoy, not someone else!

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Eat natural, wholesome foods.
Even a little bit of what is considered "bad" is much better than eating something synthetically produced.

One example is butter vs low-fat spreads.

Butter is all natural. A low-fat spread has been processed until it is spreadable and edible. Let's face it, is olive oil in it's natural state spreadable? No - so things such as stabilisers and emulsifiers (found in emulsion paint of course - yak!) have to be added to the oil, along with a plethora of other additives, to make something that spreads. And it doesn't even taste nice!

Of course, this is all totally my personal opinion and I wouldn't want to impose my views on anyone else. But I'm of the opinion that natural is best.

A sensible amount of everything, in a well balanced diet, along with regular activity is a sure way to maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Right, down off my soap box now!

I love this thread...great advice... I agree keep the tips coming.

I totally agree that eating clean makes the world of difference. For the past 2 weeks, I have given up gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts, corn and sugar. I started the Virgin Diet thinking it would be a detox/fitness jumpstart. But now I'm hooked. I may incorporate a few eggs and dairy if my body can tolerate after the first phase but I have already ordered books on Paleo and Primal eating/fitness. With my increased energy, clarity, and weight loss (8 lbs already), I will never go back to processed food for me or my family.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GREAT TO START, BUT YOU HAVE TO START TO BE GREAT!!!

A body at rest stays at rest, but a body in motion stays in motion.

While sleeping in and breakfast in bed are calm and relaxing, the cruel truth is the longer you lounge around the harder it is to get up and move. However, when you're up and about it's sooo much easier to keep going!
