I already have my next 5 projects planed! Literally as I'm sanding I'm thinking how I'm going to paint my bathroom vanity... I have one chair sanded, how's that for jumping the gun?!?
I ALWAYS under estimate how much work something is going to be. It's amazing how something like a desk or hutch seems not that big until you have to work on every square inch of it.
I have to remind myself this is a hobby, hobbies are made to take time. I won't lie I can't wait to see my Thanksgiving feast on the table I worked so hard on!

Did you take a before pic of your furniture? I'm usually bad about that but I did this time. We'll have to post project pictures and how many pounds they burned!

Yes, I agree I have been feeling that urgency to get this job done before the cold snap, as well.

I have to say this is my biggest project I have ever attempted, I did a curio type oak hutch that was kind of large but this piece is kicking my rear! It's got the backer panels, the side panels, the two inner panels and three front doors.... holy smoke! I usually don't work with veneered wood either and this one is veneered, but the lines and the detail have me hooked.

Deanna, I'm with you all the way about having a project to work on everyday... I just need that outlet of creating. But just wondering - Do you start thinking about your next project and wishing the current one was DONE so you could start on it? I do that all the time!!!

For once I'm happy fall is starting out warm. I don't want a cold snap until I get my staining done and if all goes well that's about 2-3 weeks away. Today I finished the spindles on the first chair and moved on to using the power sander on the back and seat.
There's something about using power tools that always puts me in a great mood emoticon

Hope your room doesn't still smell tonight, that stuff can really linger!

emoticon Happy 1st day of Autumn everyone!!

Oh I am looking forward to seeing the koa wood! I emoticon antiques!

Yeah, the walk helped my headache and it is gone. I don't know why I let him do that anyway... I have a covered patio that I am using and it would of been okay if covered. Oh well!

I am taking a break from relaxing on my patio! I'm working on the two inner panels that hold the shelving in place. Well back to the patio for some more fun! :)

We did get a little sprinkle here, just enough to get the cars spotted. Lucky for me we have a 4 car garage so I have lots of room to keep projects safe and NOT in my sleeping space!
Maybe the fresh air on your walk will help your headache a bit.

I'll load a photo of my cat on my koa wood on my page. It isn't the best photo but it gives you an idea. I need to get new cushions made, the last owner recovered them (ugly so I keep them covered) but they are the originals... they don't make them like that anymore!

I'm back to sanding today, I'm trying to think of it as a relaxing sort of zen activity instead of work. I spent 5 hours "relaxing" in the shop yesterday! At least the weather is good for it!

Oh Deanna I have never hear of koa wood, I will have to check it out... my mother loves Hawaiian everything! Before she got ill she loved to go there on vacations. And yes you do have a great imagination, you should be writing :)

Well, Don thought it might rain last night so he put the bottom piece of the furniture in our bedroom... I woke up with a stuffy nose and a headache.... tung oil that is not dried all the way is not a good idea to breathe all night! :( So I have been moving slow this morning....need to get going and go for my walk in a couple of minutes!

Art Deco anything adds so much to a home! My sofa, lamps and tables are deco/ Hawaiian made of koa wood.
I always wonder who was sitting on my couch when the attack of Pearl Harbor happened, how many books and articles have those lamps lit.
My imagination runs a bit wild I suppose thinking of all the generations one peace of furniture ties together.
I guess that's why I never buy anything new (if I can help it) I love the stories these old things come with!

Clutter isn't hopeless, all you need is a burn barrel! Thats what I'm waiting on :-)

I'm off to a hot soak in the tub and Agatha Christie !

I have been working on getting rid of clutter on and off all day today... in particular old notebooks filled with various lists and book reviews and well you get the picture. Also old calendar and I have them because emoticon I am just hoping that this is not hopeless!

Yep that varnish is probably the same stuff on my Grandmother's chairs! And those are going to wait until next summer. I will be so lucky to finish the art deco piece! (Chernobyl - I've got to remember that one!) I am starting to be really happy that I can use my hand sander on those big old middle shelves!

Speaking of cooking... I have decided to start trying to cook a bit again... I want to make zucchini Soup and I found a recipe in Fannie Farmers cookbook that just may work... I just need a potato. And I hope my family will eat this when I am done...

I admit I have a few thing I can't part with too :-)
I'm taking my 5 min break from sanding, my project may very well take until Thanksgiving. This varnish could have withstood Chernobyl without so much as a flake!
Oh well all I've got is time and not only am I burning calories and toning my arms but I'm also far to tired to cook!

Barb are you sure the kid wasn't a plant from another team to slow you down? I thought caring my camera gear all day was heavy, I'm sure a 4 year old would totally do me in!

Just got done with the 2nd coat of tung oil and I also swept the bottom of the pool... starting to get breezy and of course you can guess where all the leaves are going. hehe, my luck!

Wow Barb you got a work out... little kids are heavy! :) You should of asked me cuz I have a little red wagon (my son's). He won't let me get rid of it because "It can be used as a tool" okay! :) So I guess you could of used it for a tool - right? Wow, I can't remember the last time I slept that long, you MUST have been tired!

Hello ladies! The Fit One was fun. I was with a friend who brought her 4 yo. No stroller, so there was some walking, some carrying, some shoulder-riding, some piggy backing. It took us about 72 minutes to walk it. With that, the grocery shopping and the normal day stuff, I was exhausted last night. I went to bed shortly after 8:00 - didn't watch ANY of the BSU game. Got up at 6:30 (10 1/2 hours of sleep) and started all over again!

Your projects sound great and you are all more dedicated than I. Hope things turn out beautifully, with the appropriate amount of weight loss!

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Gosh Zoe was really sick! Glad she's doing better and maybe now she will get back to a normal weight.

I have never used anything except Jasco, did you try that first?

Klean Strip is the gel I used then mineral spirits to clean after. Have plenty of rags as it is a mess!

Zoe is starting to do better. For almost 2 weeks we had to feed her with a syringe, she wouldn't eat at all. Then the first day she stared eating she got sick 5 times, naturally in different places spread all over the house. Poor thing. Now that she's finished with the meds she's getting back to normal but she's all bones. I can't tell you how happy I was to see her chase, catch and eat a moth the other day! Now I just need to put a little weight back on her and pray she doesn't get another infection emoticon

I hear u on the vision part... I was really looking at my piece and it is awesome! It is going to look killer when I am done! IF I don't rush it! As you said... let it dry... move on as the project allows me too!

What was the name of the gel product? The reason why I ask is I also have some other things I am envisioning.... :)

Anyway so sorry about your arm! Good thing you are younger than me cuz I don't do well with hand sanding :

Speaking of hair in the varnish - how is Zoe?

The gel stripper worked better by far! I used a liquid one first (4 times) and barely got anything off. The gel got about 80% off but it was a gooey mess. After all the scraping then cleaning up with the mineral spirits and still needing to sand I'm thinking sanding is the way to go. I can use a power sander on a lot of it but the legs and supports are spindles so that will be done by hand. It's going to be slow going (isn't always) but so worth it when it's finished!
I don't mind that it's hard work it's just I get excited to see my vision complete.

When you get around to doing your grandfathers set use the gel, I bet with thick really old varnish it will peel up well. I got a mask made for chemicals and had no trouble with fumes No headache at all :-) I just need a hot bath for aching arms!

Take your time and let everything dry, there is nothing worse than working really hard just to end up with grit... or in my case a cat hair in your project :-)

Gosh, Deanna, I was thinking about you on and off all day! Those chairs sound like my grandmothers chairs... my Grandfather put a new coat of varnish on them every year, whether they needed it or not! They are still not done and are in my attic as we speak! What stripper seem to work the best? Are you able to use a small hand sander at all or just (ugh) hand sanding?

I finished the top of my piece and finished all the smaller shelves, and I also got the 1st coat on the bottom BUT I am running out of room. I cannot sand the big shelves near the tung oil or risk getting the finish all gritty....So until I get that done... yep! I am at a stuck point! Don is going to move one of my other tables in the shade tomorrow so I can start the sanding. I am getting excited to get this done!!

So how was fit one - are you guys tired yet?

So I spent all day on one chair, that's right ONE! Even after using 2 different strippers I'm going to have to do some sanding.
I'm just thinking of all the calories I burned. With 5 more chairs and a table this has got to be good for a 10 pound loss. I'll do all of the painting and finish work myself but I'm recruiting my mother to help me sand.

Did you get your bookshelves finished Christine?

How was fit one?

Hope everyone had a good day!

You dinged Deanna? hehe :)

I sure hope tomorrow brings you a pain free day! I got a slight headache from the Tung oil I was using the other day and I was outside, so you be extra careful with that stripper! (and I hope he is a cute one!!!) tee hee

Hahaha Deanna I don't know about a new project (yet) because this one has been kicking my rear end! I found three *MORE* big shelves that need to be sanded, stained and then 2 coats of tung oil... holy macaroni... they were hiding behind the other huge pieces!

yeah well thank Goodness my labor is free!

Strange things happen when you read fast!

Drove down to Twin today. Did you know that the speed limit on the freeway between here and Twin Falls is 80? It's fantastic!! Sat and talked to my friends for a few hours. It was nice. Going to bed soon so I can be ready for the Fit One...and grocery shopping.

Deanna, I had to read your post about sanding spindles twice. I though you said you had to resort to being a stripper. LOL! That is NOT what you said!! emoticon

I'm off for the weekend. I'm going to get my packet for the Fit One race in the morning and then head to Twin Falls for the day. Going to be a long day!!

My dad hasn't used it yet, it was a workout putting it together though :-)

I just wish this smoke would clear up my eyes are like sandpaper today! Makes it hard to work on photos when my eyes are all watery. Maybe it's natures way of telling me to get my laundry finished and exercise.

Deanna, yeah I don't think I would want to try to sand spindles... my thumbs wouldn't take it at all!
Not sure about this weather today... hope it clears up so I can do some more work on the furniture.

I'm thinking I may have to resort to a stripper, it's too hard to sand spindles! Right about the time my shots kick in the weather will cool down so I'm thinking that's the day I'll tackle it!
I got my walk in two days in a row but not today. I had my treadmill incline at 6.5% both days and it made me a little sore (in a good way). That incline makes a big difference!
Hope everyone is having a good night!

Good evening everyone! Still working on my projects and I guess it all adds up for fitness. I have 2,500 minutes so far this month WooHoo!

Got in a stuck point today on the shelves. I am using Tung Oil and it has to dry for 24 hours before the next coat... I'm getting impatient to get this done, but now is not the time for that. I know from so many other restoration projects that the project will get done, but won't be rushed!

Deanna are you still sanding?

Kelli, no worries. I remembered that you weren't feeling well, so I only waited about five minutes. We need to plan another walk. This weekend is out for me (FitOne) so I can't meet this week. How doe the next couple of weeks look for everyone?

Hi Everyone,

This cold has got me down. Sorry Barb, I didn't see your message until this morning, and my internet at home has been sketchy. I am too cheap to buy a package, so I am using clear and if Netflix is running, I usually can't get onto sparkpeople. So frustrating.

I am still not feeling good, and everyone is right! It is too nice to be sick.

Hoping I will kick it this week.

Christine - Thanks for the get well wishes in the lodge.

Have a great Monday all.

Well, I would have to say *we* were productive. My DH and I work excellently as a team! Funny thing happened today though... I was admiring all the baseboards DH installed... so then I thought it's time for me to run the vacuum over the rug.... when I closed the door to the room... whoops the baseboards were not done behind the door. We had a great laugh over that to be sure! It will probably take him 10 minutes to finish tomorrow.

How is everyone else doing? Do you have your chores done? Hahaha :)

That's all right. Sounds like you were pretty productive yesterday.

Today was a laid back day for me. I for all my chores done and had time to read. Even for things gathered for tomorrow.

Wow Barb, I thought it was cold at 10:00 but glad you enjoyed the walk. DH and I didn't walk until the temp was at 65 and it was a good walk here on Lake Forest Drive. When I got home I finished all the painting in the MB, ripped out the remaining baseboards, sanded the backer boards then started staining the them for the armoire.

DH built us a 7 1/2 ' tall x 2' shelf for the garage for our hobby stuff yesterday. We started filling the shelves yesterday, top shelf is for motorcycle stuff, etc. Our garage is not organized yet at all!

Glad to hear that you and Andrea had fun playing Bunco! :)

Christine, I was there! I went ahead and walked and it was a beautiful day for it.

After that, I came home and finished laundry, took DS to lunch and finished a book. Had Bunco and Andrea joined us! No money won, but I had fun!!

DH said it depends where you are located but you will need to start to the north of your location.

Gosh it was cold this morning... hope it heats up so I will want to walk! So are we all meeting tomorrow at 10:00? I hear it's supposed to heat up then.

Great news on the possible new treatment for the migraines! I hope it works.

Kelli, I still plan to be there at 10:00 on Saturday. Please let me know if we need to meet later. Hope you feel better. Colds are no fun...especially when you were hoping for meds to help!

Tomorrow is team-building at work. A workshop in the morning and bowling in the afternoon. Looking forward to it!

Kelli so sorry for the cold you got! Dang it - I hope it goes way soon!

If it stays this cool maybe we should plan on a later time if you need to sleep in Kelli?

emoticon I've been enjoying walking with DH everyday this week for two miles! I was waiting for it to heat up and will be walking today soon. Gosh, it is 12:14 and it's only 63 degrees!

Deanna, I am staining a shelf for my bathroom (white) today! :)

Good Morning Everyone,

I have been down with a cold. Off for two days, and then I came back to work yesterday but I am exhausted. I just got done at the doctor's, and it is just a cold. Sigh, I was hoping to get some good drugs to make it go away.

Are we still walking on Saturday? I will probably have the little guy with me, and be a bit on the slow side. :)

Deanna - I loved your website. Those are some really great pictures. How exciting for you!

Thank you! Putting my work out there has been exciting for me. I've always worked in photography but mostly just shooting what the companies I worked for required. I never thought much about what I wanted to be shooting. Now I just have to have more pain free days to get out not only to shoot pictures but also have contact with people that aren't my doctors!
One of these days I'll get lucky on our team walking day.

I did have some good news today, my doctor found something that I haven't tried for my headaches! It's only being tested right now but at least it's hope for better days :-)

Thank you! I had to have a profile pic but I'm always behind the camera so I don't have many to choose from. Lucky for me the few photos I do have were 40 pounds ago shot by my brother who always does a great job! Here's the link if anyone else wants to check out what I do when my head isn't hurting and I'm not on the treadmill :-)
http://deannasandquist.artistwebsites.com

I still have a lot to add!

I didn't do meatless monday, I made Cincinnati chili over pasta. The calories aren't too bad if you don't over do the cheese. It's so flavorful that I find I don't need to eat much to be satisfied. I'm mostly staying full working my way through that box of fresh apples YUM!
Hope everyone is having a great day!

I would love a photo field trip! There are so many great locations in Boise I have to keep a small camera in my handbag even when I go to the Dr.
I have a not so secret fear that if I leave home without it I might see a unicorn and have no proof emoticon
I'm about to dive into a hot bath, I need to give my eyes a rest so maybe an audio book is in order.

Yes, I do know about those shots, I honestly didn't remember they were coming up so quick.

But good to know that you can make me look a little bit better in the team pics (so can DH). Maybe we should plan some photo shooting for you and DH sometime soon? He loves a good downtown photo shoot! I think you two would get along very well btw!

Yep I am still up but I am going to go read my book for about two hours and then go to emoticon (I hope)

I don't think I'll be doing much of anything next weekend emoticon
I get a series of 30 shots in my head on Tues, I normally feel bad for about a week after. It does help the migraines but I have to have it done every three months. This time it seemed to ware off early.
Doing a group shot does sound like a good idea.... since I get to be behind the camera;-)
Everyone in front of my lens looks 10 years younger so no worries there!

Well Deanna you have your priorities and getting the web site up and running is a biggie! I know how you feel because this bedroom redo has been taking over my life, (so to speak). I will just be so glad when DH and I are done!

Do you think if you got it up and running you would like to walk the greenbelt (if you don't have a migraine)? We will let you take team pictures of us! :) Well as long as you make me look way younger with photoshop! LOL

I just sent my dad to Williamson Orchard yesterday for a box of apples and some peaches!
If I have a glass of milk and peanut butter toast I feel like it's a balanced diet :-)

I did put my tracker on but I'm afraid to look at it, the only way I'd get a 5K in this week is if someone ran off with my Mac emoticon emoticon

Okay the 5k on Saturday sounds great!

So nice that you had a quiet day to yourself Barb. BUT all I can say is boy you are driven! I could use some of your drive, for sure. I only have 2,254 steps today and I am okay with that! :) i just like to relax on Sundays!

Anyway went and got lots of fresh fruits and veggies. I want to really work on getting more, even if I have to force feed them to myself! :)

Deanna, we can't wait to see your website too!

Oh how a love a nice day alone sometimes! It's the best way to relax.

I'm going to have to start putting a limit to how long I sit at the computer, I'm not anywhere close to getting my steps!
It's exciting to get my site started after all this time so it's hard to stop. My parents are chomping at the bit to tell the family, I told them to give me 4 more days, at that point I need to balance my life better and get back to walking, eating and sleeping! Oh and Sparking too!

I'm sorry you both had insomnia. That is no fun at all!

That's exciting about your own website! Hope you get it set the way you want with few late nights.

Christine, don't worry about the race. We can do our own version of a 5k next Saturday!

I had the house to myself most of the afternoon. I watched football, listened to a podcast, read for a little bit. Nice and relaxing day. Now, I need 2700 more steps to meet my goal. Marching in place while Sparking to try to meet that goal!

The choices you make today will determine the path that your life will take.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Other sites were $150+! I'm glad I was a little slow. A friend was telling someone about my photos and that I was looking for a website, they told him about Fine Art America. I think it's going to be a good fit!
I do need a bit of rest today. I'm feeling mentally hyper and brain dead at the same time!

The website is only $30.00 a year! Even I can come up with that. They make their money when people order your pictures, I set my profit. I don't get out to shoot often so I won't be loading a ton of photos but it will be nice for this photographer to finally have a home on the web!
I was up until 4 am just making little changes to pictures and looking up cars and hood ornaments for tags. I need to learn a little bit about the subjects I shoot, it will save a lot of time in the future!
I am getting on the treadmill today mostly because I'm suffering from eyestrain and can't see to do pictures

Nope I had insomnia last night too! Got 147 pages into another book! As my Dad would say "You have your nights and days mixed up". I am super excited about you getting your web site up! Is this going to cost you money to keep up? Just curious. As for the names.... ummmm that is going to be a challenge! Perhaps a good dictionary would help? Just flip pages until something sounds right?

Barb I am not sure I can afford to sign up for Fit One but i love the name "Monkey Kings"! I've just been spending so much money on the bedroom redo!

Well I hope everyone else has a great healthy day!

PS Don't forget to play "I like A - Z" game for 3 easy spark points Or any other game you might like. :)

I've learned not to get rid of too many clothes, as soon as I do I'm back in that size! I have every size from 0-14, I'd like to end up in the middle :-)

I never did remember to put my tracker on today but then I didn't really remember to get up and walk around ether! Tomorrow I'll do better. Tonight I've been working on getting my website started (finally). I've only uploaded a few pictures, it's hard to know where to start it's also hard to think of titles.
How many names can one possibly come up with for a flower! I also have a bad habit of shooting pics of cars, hood ornaments and aircraft and not noticing what kind it is. I get excited when I see something pretty, nothing but the shot matters until someone says
"that's a great hood ornament, what kind of car was it on?"
My reply "um, it was a green car!"
Needless to say I'm going to need a little help with titles :-)

Tonight insomnia is my friend but I hope the rest of you are on the cusp of a sound sleep!

You looked fine! I didn't see the upside bowling pin look at all!

Yeah, it sucked at the time, but losing that position turned out to be a great thing for me. LOVE my new job. And my new boss loves me, so it is working out very well for both of us.

BTW, I'm pretty sure I signed up for a team for the Fit One. We have a group who do races when we can and we always use the name "The Monkey Kings". If anyone hasn't signed up and you want to, please feel free to use that name. Only two weeks away!

Wow, I didn't know that Barb, I hate not being able to sleep! Yep, insomnia sucks!

Anything that still looks good on me I keep! And I really don't stay in style as much as I should. My sister is your age and she helped me pick out the pants I was wearing on the greenbelt. I personally think they make my legs look like tooth picks... an *upside down bowing pin* if you will! Bahahaha! But hey it's the style right? :)

Target and ShopKo are great places for workout clothes. I always look and want to buy new stuff, but have to remind myself that I don't need more!

I have had insomnia a few times. When I found out my position was eliminated, I didn't sleep at all. And last week I was reminded that caffeine is a stimulant - kept me awake until 1:15 (and I have to be up at 4:15 for work). So, yeah, I get it. Insomnia sucks!

My issue with going through clothes is that I end up getting rid of everything and then I regret it later.

I know, isn't that great? Tell you what if you have never suffered from insomnia you will never know just how brain dead you can get! Hahahaha!!! I usually have pills that I can take for insomnia but I have been avoiding my doctor. Mainly because I *so* wanted to get my weight lower than it is now :( Oh well, looks like I need to make an appt!!!

Wow a good three mile walking trip with friends and lunch? Wow that is a win-win!!! WTG

I loved your bright pink outfit you wore to the greenbelt, got me thinking that I need more workout clothes!

I hate going through clothes in my closet because I tend to want to keep everything! (Except anything that is now too big!!!)

Hey Christine - it looks like you didn't miss the walk. It's NEXT Saturday!

I've never been to Art in the Park either. Maybe I can convince DH to go with me tomorrow. Probably not. :(

Today was a good day. I walked to El Gallo in Kuna, had lunch with two friends and walked home. Three mile round trip. I even went to the library too! I need to clear out some old clothes too. And make sure my fall and winter clothes still fit and don't need mending. I want to go shopping, but I need to get rid of something if I buy something new.

I forgot to ask how your visit with your old friend went? Hope you stayed pain free.

Oh I know all about the photo shop thing! I am making my mom's life book! Which would include scanning! Not lately though I am trying to get 3 months worth of stuff done in one month! I'm making progress though but still a lot needs to be done. I am also looking into a privacy screen for the patio, right off my bedroom sliding door, so I can keep my drapes back whenever I want to. I will also use it for a bird screen hopefully... I watch the birds and they don't see me :)

I had such good intentions today! However I made the mistake of just needed to go over a picture or two, just a little fine tuning..... once again I got lost in photoshop! I don't know how it happened one picture turned into another (seems they all wanted a little tweak).
I had sudden onset ADHD, as I was working on one print an idea for another would pop in. I do get a lot done in these moods, just not what I intended :-)

Bahahaha... you make me laugh so hard Deanna! :)

Just got back from The Restore (habitat for humanity) I got some particle boards so I can make another shelf for the garage. Man does it need work too! :) I guess a bulldozer and a burn barrel may help!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that Zoe is ill! I hope she gets better soon!

I am trying so hard to get organized too! Getting my office organized would be a "pipe dream"! Haha so good luck with yours! Right now mine has a ton of papers all over the top of my desk because I can only deal with so much at a time!

I can't wait to put my bedroom back together! I just finished staining the baseboards, next two coats of Varathane! We are putting in two more white wall outlets right now before we go take my library books back.

I have never been to Arts in the Park. Guessing I am missing out!

Lots of insomnia going on here too! My cat got really sick again, we've been trying to nurse her back to health. Poor little thing doesn't even want to eat.
Today I'm going to get back on the treadmill, remember my tracker (now that half the day is gone) and dive into organizing my office.... sort of, well almost... is an office REALLY every organized?
Art in the park is always great, we go almost every year. Zoe is too sick to leave alone so we won't make it this time ;-(
