Dixie, the same thing happened to me when I lost my dog. I kept thinking he was going to be in all his usual places.

Dixie, congrats on losing 5 pounds, that is exactly what I need to do. I have several new (Vogue) patterns for a couple of new summer shirts and I need to lose some of this weight first. Oh and, if you come up with any new meatless dishes you like could you share them with me? I am also trying to reduce my food budget. Glad you will be able to help your daughter with hers while she is n college though! Sorry you have been feeling down, I think de-cluttering really helps me feel better too!

Kathy, yes it is going to be hot during your race! Dang it! When it is hot like that do you walk some or most of it? emoticon for the hot emoticon emoticon

hey all,
I'm still here. Had a really bad week missing and grieving my old dog, the best furkid ever. Still look for him as I drive up my driveway, but that's to be expected.
I'll wave at the Famous Potato people as I finish my 5K. We'll be at Julia Davis park.
Went over budget last week at the store so am trying to make a shopping list with the least amount of things on it for this week. I think I've got it. :-) This summer, I aim to lower the food budget some. Unfortunately, my daughter has asked for help with her food budget, and my savings will go to her. Tis okay. She's staying at school again for the summer and working.

I've been really down for a while. Losing my dog just was the straw, I think. So this week I've been trying to be gentle with myself. That didn't really make me feel better, so now I'm trying to get things done. It's amazing how decluttering soothes the psyche.

Have a great weekend, y'all.

Dixie

Thanks all for the phone numbers I will send an email to you soon with mine.

The 6th is to far away for me to plan. But if I am in town I will be there.

The great potato marathon is tomorrow and of course it will be the hottest day of the year so far. Now I remember why I don't sign up for races after April.

Good afternoon everyone!

Kelli, I am so glad to hear that Blake is getting to feeling better! Makes everyone's day harder when kids are ill. Yep he now sounds like his sweet self again! :)

I had my entire yard front and back torn up and redone a couple of years ago, what an ordeal, but glad it got done now. I was so sick of dragging a hose around but now we have sprinklers!

Well, Treasure Valley, Blake is right "It's a beautiful day out there, so how are you enjoying it?"

Hi Everyone,
Blake is feeling MUCH better. I hate it when he gets sick. It made for a long couple of days. He is now back to his normal self, and I woke up this morning to Mommy, its a beautiful day, lets go save the world. Perfect way to start the day.

Kathy Im so sorry too, I dont usually check the boards the night before and with Blake not feeling good, the weather kind of windy, I stayed home too. I will send you my number.

The 6th will work for me too. We dont have anything going on, until afternoon I think. Then I am having some pictures done of Blake.

Dixie OHHH So sorry to hear about your beloved dog. It is so hard to lose a pet. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I spent the weekend cleaning and tearing out the yard. Getting a new yard, and getting things cleaned up. What a project!!

Yes I got the 10,000 in just barely.

If your weight loss has slowed or plateaued and you are getting the same amount of exercise and eating the same amount of calories. There is only one thing to do and that is

I was on a two month plateau and I had to change what I was doing.
So I believe

Thanks Kathy. I am def trying to re-commit to my weight loss goals. I got the first 20 off pretty easy but it seems that weight loss has slowed down. My streak should help out a bunch!

Did you get your 10k steps?

Christine way to go on the streak. You can make your June streak goal, I have faith in you.

Barb just curious where to you guys shoot and if I may ask what are you shooting? type of gun not target. Sounds like you had a fun and productive day.

How's Blake has is ear infection cleared up?

Well here it is 9:00PM and I don't have my 10,000 steps in yet today. That is how lazy I have been so with that said I have many miles to go before I sleep.

Hiya Barb! Sounds like you had a great day!!

I plan to finish my one-mile-day-in-May streak and I plan to start a new one in June. At least 15 minutes of cardio a day in June. I got to thinking that the way I lost my first 20 pounds without dieting was I was doing WATP everday at lunch with a girl from work. I lost a pound a week for 20 weeks. Went back to my doctor and he was so surprised that I followed through with the weight loss. I would really like to get to my first goal weight. So I have actually started again with the WATP's DVDs. I like to get in 30 minutes but I will be happy with 15 if that is all I can get done.

I didn't do much today except working out and such but with DH the way he is right now that stands to reason.

Hugs for your evening!

Love that quote! LOL! And would love to have a bloomerang lilac bush...or any lilac bush. But DH doesn't like them, so none for me. Oh well...I have other flowers I like.

Great job Christine on the streak! Gonna keep going after the May challenge is over?

Today was a good day. Got up early, went to the gym then came home and trimmed more of the back yard...again until the battery died. Took a shower, ate lunch and weeded the front flower bed and sat in the sun reading my book. Then went shooting with DH, DS, DD and DD's BF. Got back in the car before it started raining. Then cheeseburgers and corn on the cob for dinner. Still have time to chillax before bed and going back to work tomorrow.

How did you all spend the day?

It was windy today Barb, so I put WATP DVD on! Yay 1.5 miles and Day 24 is complete.

Hunk (my DH) is doing better... not much of a headache today. He looks a bit better everyday but won't get his stitches out until maybe June 1.

Dixie, I'm so sorry about your dog. I have two and can't imagine coming home without their barking and happy greetings. I hope you're finding the comfort you need.

Kathy, that does sound weird...but if it works for you I won't knock it!

Christine, how is the walking streak going? How's Hunk?

The 6th at 11 - works for me! Same place - in front of the zoo. Anyone else?

Between last night waves of rain storms I was trying to dig a hole through hard pan. Finally got it dug. Bought a Bloomerang, which is a lilac bush that blooms twice a year.

Christine I hope your husband mends quickly. I hate pot holes, another reason for me to stay off bikes.

Barb as silly as it sounds I always take an afternoon walk after I run a race. However you would have to have a later start for me to make it. I have to stay around at the end of the race to get my trophy don't you know. emoticon

I think June 6th is doable for me June 13th is not

Dixie sorry to hear about your dog, that is always so hard. After I lost my last pet I swore off having anymore. I have almost broke down several times. But so far I am staying pet free.

I didn't make it today either. We had to put our old dog to sleep on Thursday night. I came home from work to find that he was having trouble walking. After an exam, the vet was pretty sure he had a large tumor in his belly, and she was very sure it was malignant. We couldn't see putting him through surgery. He was obviously ready to go. Hubby and I have been doing some grieving and I forget how hard it is, physically and mentally. I feel better mentally if I'm out of the house, but it's so hard coming home and not having the dog here, barking his welcome.
I've taken the last few days off from exercise, but I will get back to it tomorrow. I am also going to do my weekly food prep. Actually I'm not sure if I'll do it tomorrow or Monday. It's nice having another day off. Did all my grocery shopping today, the stock up for the month. I just get produce and milk the rest of the month.

The to do list for the rest of the weekend is: food prep, mow lawn, tend graves, workout both days, get ready for the work week.

Dixie

Christine, we haven't had rain yet. It's pretty windy, so I expect to get some any time! I'm glad Hunk is feeling better.

Kathy, so...you're saying you don't want to run a marathon AND walk with us? emoticon

Kelli, how is Blake's ear infection doing? Getting better?

Since next weekend is out, how do the 6th or 13th of June look? I believe I'm free both days. 11:00 works for me if it works for everyone else.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!!

I must have been at the wrong place. I was on the greenbelt by the zoo next to the river. Sorry I missed meeting you all. Or maybe I had the wrong time I thought it was 11:00

I did go an hour early so I could get in a run so all was not lost. Maybe next time I will show up in the right place, but then again I can be a bit of a flake.

Hope you had a good time, it was very nice in the park today

Hello! The summit is over and we were successful. Thank goodness for long weekends!

DH decided to take tomorrow off, so I will not be joining you for a walk. I'm sorry for the late notice!! Can we schedule another one?

It's past my bedtime, so gonna cut this short.

Hi all, I plan on being there unless it is pouring. Blake has an ear infection so if the weather holds we will be there.

Kathy thanks a whole bunch!! I never even saw that "add a link" button... Geesh! And remove the s - I think I have it now.

My doctor says I am okay... so I will try to build up my time running. It just seems to be a faster way to burn calories. Any other time I am walking I am looking for bikes and or hiking.

Well I have an umbrella (if the rain in not going sideways) but I will go along with whatever everyone else decides. So I hope this mean you are coming Kathy :)

So is everyone okay for Greenbelt near the Zoo at 11:00?

Christine I was looking back over some old post in this string I missed a couple questions from you.

First the question about the links I am not sure of the answer cause I am not sure how you are posting them. if you use the add link button on the top of this message all you have to do is if the address starts with https is delete the s then the link will work. Sparkpeople links don't link the s.

secondly on your question on the lungs hurting after a minute of running. first have you checked with a doctor. I to was a long time smoker and quit sometime back.

if there is no lung issue you just need to build your lung capacity. I would start my walking 5 minutes and running 1 minute. and repeat, do that for a couple of weeks and then increase your run time. you might only be able to increase it 30 seconds at a time but I would try to increase it by a minute and just keep building. Your body will let you know if how fast you can increase the run time. Take it slow and easy be kind to your body.

Are you all still planning on gathering on the greenbelt by the zoo? What if it is raining?

Hi All,

My cleaning efforts are starting to pay off. I am so excited though to finally get something done and actually see progress. Most of the time when I clean i just move stuff around and then it all piles back up.

Christine - I am sure Blake would love to pull you... since he isn't into just sitting much. :) I sure hope he is good Saturday. And if you leave him in charge of the tunes you will have everything from Bob The Builder, to We Will Rock You by Queen.

Kathy - I love the sign.... I sure feel like that on some days. LOL....

HiYa Barb - Hopefully we will see you Saturday and you can fill us in. Breathe in, breathe out.

Yep Kathy, I love that motivation and actually have it up in my office on my "quote board."

I hope everyone joins us for our walk on Saturday. I am really looking forward to it, (and hoping Blake will behave somewhat).

Dixie it does not matter where you finish, what matters is you finished. The good news is there are a lot of races on the green belt, no motorcycle police chugging a long behind.

Christine I am reposting your meatball link www.organizeyourselfskinny.com/2014/

hope it works.

Blake can ride in the wagon a be in charge of the tunes. or would that be a bad idea.

Kelli I never thought of the races like that I always to the 5k with longer races attached. Maybe that has always been in the back of my mind.

Below describes the speed I run.

Dixie I def like your idea better than being dead last. Actually I think I need to amp up my training. I got 2 miles in today, but it was all walking. I think I am going to drag out my mini trampoline and see if I can run some intervals on it.

Oh everyone, I have never had a good recipe for meatball subs and I found out about this recipe through another spark friend, Kal. So here is the link if you think you may want to try these. I also hope the link works!

Crockpot Meatball Subs! We froze 1/2 of the meatballs for another time, as we doubled the batch. We also ate them on whole wheat hotdog buns.... So dang good!

Kelli, you and I must be on the same wave link... I have been cleaning the heck out of my kitchen too!

Do you think Blake would like to pull me in the wagon next Saturday? Tee hee or I can pull him?

I have BEEN last at a race, and the last person from the very beginning of a race and it wasn't very motivating! I've been second to last a number of times and that didn't bother me nearly as much as being dead last and having the motorcycle escort chug oh so slowly behind me!

Hi All,

Just a quick stop in to say hi. LOL on running 5K's that have longer races attached to them. I do that too, that way it is pretty much guaranteed I won't be the last on the course.

Christine - I can pull out Blake's wagon and you can pull Blake with the boom box. LOL.... Or Blake will pull the wagon.

I have been cleaning and cleaning. My kitchen is finally starting to look like a kitchen.

Have a great day all!

I'll tell ya a secret: I usually go for 5K's with longer races associated with them. That way I am not last, if there's a 10K and a half marathon to go too. :-)

One thing to keep in mind when entering the 5k races, is you don't have to run them. You can walk them. So don't let the fact you aren't running yet be what stops you. The last 5k race I entered there was a dance group that dance the entire 5k they weren't fast but they sure had a lot of fun

Babysteps. One of the biggest mistakes beginner runners make (and I definitely made, and will probably make again) is going too fast. There's any number of training programs out there, but I think my favorite is Couch to 5K. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/18
1.shtml

You don't have to do a 5K, you can use the program for 2 miles. It's just a good "start out slow and build on things" kind of program.

I used to follow Jeff Galloway, who does a run/walk thing. If I get into running again, I'll do the same thing. Here's a link to his beginner's website: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/begin
ners/
I would walk 2 minutes and run 5 or 6 minutes, and do that for the entirety of the exercise. It was awesome. I did two marathons doing the run/walk thing.

Unfortunately the big fundraiser for CF is the same weekend as the Famous Potato race, and I signed up for the Great Strides race first. Next year I'm thinking about doing the half at the Famous Potato.

UGH, I just lost my whole post.

I spent the weekend scrubbing my kitchen. Just the kitchen. Then we had T ball.

Barb - enjoy the summit, and have fun being a tourist in Boise. :)

Christine - I think that is fairly normal until you build yourself up. Check out Couch to 5K or Cto5K. It is an awesome program that starts out really small and builds up each week. It is a 12 week program that will have you running a 5K by the end of it. The first day of the first week you run for 90 seconds, then walk for 90 seconds. Then the next week you run for 3 minutes and walk for 2 minutes. (or something like that.) It works every time I fall off the running wagon. I love it, and just restarted a couple of weeks ago. Right now I am up to running 8 minutes, with a 5 minute walk break.

Kathy - That looks like a fun run, and only $12 for a guest... I will have to look into it, a September run would be fun.

I am off to the doctor, and then get my day started and catch up. Have a fabulous Monday, and hopefully I will see you all on Saturday for our walk.

Hello! After the wind died down, the picnic was fun. We played horseshoes and marshmallow golf.

Kathy, that 5k sounds interesting. I'll have to talk to DH to see what he thinks.

Christine, you can walk a 5k if you're not up to running. DD and I walked most of the 5k we did on Saturday.

Okay..summit starts tomorrow. Hoping that our visitors learn something and like their time in Idaho. My time online will be limited this week. Will check in when I can.

Thanks Kathy! I have a question, I quit smoking about 8 years ago, but even now when I try to run, well if you can call it that, my lungs start hurting after one minute... is that normal and what can I do, if anything, to increase my time spent running/joggings?

Ok everyone here is a race to run lots of time to train for it hope you will join me.

Idaho Beef Council Race For The Steaks
Date: 09/12/2015

You can even buy a second dinner for your spouse or significant other

I love steak, just don't eat it often so if you are a beef eater start training. This is going to be a real treat for me.

Christine you have a impressive streak going, keep it up.

Softball is no fun in the rain, slipping and sliding in the field leads to injuries. And we don't want that.

SB is cancelled so won't freeze or get all muddy. Gives me time to make chocolates for the picnic tomorrow. Now fingers crossed that it doesn't rain too much tomorrow.

Hello Chica's!

It's on my calendar too! I did get my one mile walk in today between rain showers so my streak is still alive. I may walk again this evening but not sure yet! :)

Hope you don't end up freezing while playing softball tonight. Hope the field isn't a muddy mess either.

Barb - One of the guys I work with who is vegetarian recommends any Indian type cuisine, as that has a lot of vegetarian options, and he swears by Shangri-La Tea Room and Cafe on W. Overland Rd. 1800 W. Overland Rd. Here is the link to the menu:

Hi Everyone,

How does the 23rd at 11:00 a.m. on the greenbelt by the zoo sound to everyone??

Barb - I will ask my vegetarian friends where they go to eat out. I work with several.

Christine, do you think you might be able to join us a week from Saturday?

Off to get some work done.

I think Whole Foods serves Vegetarian foods and the Co-op too. I think Boise Fry Company is mostly organic beef and such.

The 23rd works for me.

I'm not doing the Famous Potato Marathon this year...maybe next year.

Yes, the Village is the new, big shopping center at the corner of Eagle and Fairview. Lots of great shops, restaurants and nice enough to just go sit and talk.

Does anyone know any restaurants that serve vegetarian food? One of my visitors is Muslim and won't be able to eat most of the meat in the restaurants here.

I shared this on another thread and thought I would share it here too! :)

Favorite Quick Oatmeal Breakfast Bars

4 cups of quick-cooking oats
1/1/2 cups of sliced Almonds
1 cup of flakes coconut or part fruit trail mix
1 1/2 cups of non-sweetened applesauce or yogurt (or mix of the two)
1/2 cup of fave pure no sugar jam or 2 T pure honey
1 t vanilla or almond extract.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees

In a mixing bowl, combine everything until well mixed. If it seems to dry add more applesauce.

press into a greased 15 inch x 1 inch baking dish (Jellyroll pan). I use a rolling pin to help flatten.

Bake for 15 to 17 minutes . Edges should be browned. Cool and cut into about 40 small bars. Can be put into snack bags and frozen or not

emoticon Day 13, two mile walk, core work later tonight.

Hi Everyone! Hugs for your evening!

Kelli, Try taking a calcium pill about 30 minutes before you need to go to bed. It helps calm all of the nerves in the body. Try it and see if it helps your sleep. Also turn everything bothering you over to your higher power (God).

Oh I would like to see little Blake! Hopefully I will be in town. I may have to go help my little sister out again.

Okay, I have no idea what the Village is? I must go it seems!

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any plans for the long Memorial Day Weekend?? We could do the 23rd on the green belt and if we do it later in the morning, I will have Blake.

Christine Sleep is all of a sudden hard for me. It is 11:00 or after when I finally go to bed and I am up at 5:15 a.m. Need to figure out how to fit it all in, plus sleep.

YAY for getting in 12 days of walking. That is awesome

Barb I love the MK nature center I havent been in several years. I forgot about it, but that would be a great place to take Blake. And the Village is always a huge hit. Sounds like fun.

Kelli, Yes, let's plan a walk. This weekend is bad for me, but the next one looks okay. Mid morning is fine is that works for Christine and others.

And yes! We need to meet for lunch or brunch or coffee. Anyone else interested?

Great job Christine! Keep it up!

Good luck in the weight loss challenge

We are going to the Village and the MK Nature Center. Not sure if anything else.

Okay, back to work. Later!

Wow Kelli, good job getting in those fitness minutes! And I agree with you that sleep can make or break my fitness... work on getting that sleep in for sure! If you can get in the fitness you will get rid of the three stubborn pounds! Well I think Blake is a cutie pie so I am not surprised the girls think so too!

Kelli, a walk sounds good!

emoticon Day 12 - two mile walk complete. And I started another new streak, Prevention's Firm up in three Weeks. I really need to shake things up and start losing again. The little strength program I followed today only took me about 20 minutes so it should be doable!

Barb did you and your boss figure out where to take you guests?

Hiya Dixie, Way to Go on the new weight loss!

emoticon Goodmeister! I hope you will join in here.

Hi Everyone,
I managed a run yesterday and have plans for today. I am slowly getting back into exercise and trying to eat healthy again. Still tired at the end of the day, so really going to work on sleep these next couple of weeks.

I am doing Fit One, Fit for Life, and the Color Run. I got a free entry into Fit One for the St. Lukes weight loss challenge. I THINK, keeping my fingers crossed that I will be in the money come May 28. Only 3 more stubborn pounds to come off and give me some wiggle room.

Barb I cant wait to try the cookie cutters and make some for fun. We need to get in another walk soon.

Dixie The Idaho Wine Run sounds interesting. If you have a link will you post it?
Christine They had a lot of fun. I have to laugh though, I think there is another little girl giving Lilly a run for her money. The other day when I picked him up, he was giving Lilly a hug goodbye and this little girl with dark hair and the biggest brown eyes turned around and went BYYYEEE BLAKEY!! And so it starts, my little man has the girls after him.

Christine, Barb, Dixie, Kathy we really should plan an outing for all of us. A lunch, or brunch, or something. I really like being able to put faces and names with real people.

I am off to finish up a couple of projects and get that run in. No wind today so far.. keeping my fingers crossed that it holds for another hour.

Hi Dixie, I'm doing the Fit One also...and waiting for the June 3rd cheaper day registration. DD and I are also signed up for the Dirty Dash (June 20) and a 5k in Kuna this weekend. There are a couple more we're looking at, but will have to let you know what we decide.

Kelli, love Texas Roadhouse! So glad you got to go. And baseball cookie cutters? How cute! Sounds like a great weekend.

Christine, you are kicking butt!! Great job!

Busy today (and all week) planning the summit for next week. We've talked to all but one attendee. Working on the presentation and finishing up a document. And all of the little to-do's. Ugh! At least the week will fly by!

I can't do this walk, alas. I am doing a charity walk that day for Cystic Fibrosis (Great Strides). It's just 2.2 miles, in Julia Davis park. Email me for more details if you'd like to go to this, no need to raise money (although of course they'll take donations).

I do have a rather ambitious race schedule coming up, which I'll post in a bit.

Hi Everyone,

We had a fantastic weekend!! Friday night, Texas Roadhouse (went off Whole 30 to ENJOY every bite), was fabulous as always. Then we went and walked around the Village and I bought baseball themed cookie cutters. The zoo the next day and he spent the morning making a picnic lunch for Lilly with juice boxes, applesauce, and fruit snacks. He put so much thought into it. Then he had t ball yesterday. He did pretty good at his game. Still having a hard time getting him to really engage.

Today I got out for a run, it seems that my desire to exercise is slowly coming back.

Barb - Love the pink wigs!!! How fun.
Go Christine: You are totally rocking the challenge.

Happy Belated Mothers Day everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

Great job Christine!
