Both of my parents are diabetic and my mom uses things with artificial sweeteners since she isn't supposed to have sugar and I've warned her about them because of all the nasty side effects, but she won't stop using them yet. A good thing to use is agave nectar for a sweetener. It's natural and doesn't raise your blood sugar like other things do sometimes. It is also ok to use if you're vegan as it is not an animal byproduct like honey.
