Her name is Kathy Reichs and she writes a series of books with a main character named Temperance Brennan. But the Brennan in the books and the Brennan in the show are pretty different. I enjoy the books, though.

Actually, if you watch the credits, the show is LOOSELY based on a real person. Whose name is totally not in my head right now, LOL.

Thank-you Elvira for that information. I had no idea what one does. I never even heard of a Forensic Anthropologist before I started watching "Bones". For me, I like watching the shows to be entertained I don't worry about whether they fact or fiction. As long as all the actors have great chemistry and the storylines are interesting. But, that's me.

I read somewhere online that of all the crime shows on TV today (and that's a lot), Bones is the most realistic. Winning with a whopping 70% realistic. All of these kinds of shows have to take some liberties, I think. Or else it wouldn't seem as interesting to the viewers.

Thanks, now I understand what a Forensic Antropologist does. I like learning new facts.

A lot of shows take what is called artistic license. Some take more than others. I think Bones takes some but tries to be more realistic.

Ohh I agree the time doesn't agree, but atleast the job descriptions match up and the research part do. If the Jefferson really existed, there would also be more then just that one team doing that kind of work. You would see more then one person doing DNA and stuff, but I know it's TV I just did the research to show that it's actually more reality based then a lot of shows are.

The story line would go down to almost nothing if they only did what was in the job description. Just look at what they accomplish in 44 minutes (the other 16 min are commercial time). They find the body, analyze all the evidence, then get the bad person with some personal stuff thrown in. That makes a very enjoyable episode.

If it were true to real life they would be luck to get DNA results back in 2 months. I work in records at a police department. I see how long we have to wait until we get things back from the lab. It wouldn't make a good story line.

Both...the jobs are all fact based, but if they kept it 'true' too much evidence would have to be sent out of the Jeffersonian and since that is where I'd say about a 1/3 or the show takes place tht would be counter-productive.
Deborah

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes
Because that is the doorway to her heart.
The place where love lies.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.

Forensic anthropologists are commonly portrayed in the media as forensic scientists and/or crime scene technicians, but this is not accurate. Forensic anthropologists deal strictly with the human remains. While some people trained in forensic anthropology are also trained in evidence collection techniques, most forensic anthropologists only specialize in techniques related to analysis of the remains or bones only.

What a forensic anthropologist does do to aid in a case:

Goes to a crime scene to assist in the collection of human remains
•Cleans up the bones so that they may be looked at
•Analyzes skeletal remains to establish the profile of the individual
•Looks at trauma evident on the bones to establish the pathway of a bullet or the number of stab wounds
•Works with a forensic odontologist (dentist) to match dental records
•Testifies in court about the identity of the individual and/or the injuries that might be evident in the skeleton.

Generally, forensic anthropologists do not do any of the following:

•Collect trace evidence (hair, fibers)--Hodgins job
•Run DNA tests---Cam's
•Analyze ballistics or weapon evidence--Zac's
•Analyze blood spatter--Zac
•Conduct autopsies--Cam

So do you think the show is actually based on reality or fiction based on these facts?
