Thanks for the warm welcome!
I'm always getting people who are just slightly taller than me telling me how tall I make them feel. I just consider that my community service.
And when snotty kids point out that they're taller than me I say "stay away from cigarettes and coffee or you'll stop growing" as deadpan as I can muster, just to mess with them.
I've been doing spark for about 5 weeks I think (?) and so far I'm doing pretty well. I'm having a hard time fitting in exercise in my busy schedule, but I'll get there. Also, I'm not much of a cook so spark recipes are still just beyond my grasp. But by watching what I eat and doing little things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator I'm definitely seeing results.
It's nice because, when you're short, every 5 pounds lost makes a difference emoticon

Welcome Atomic! I'm also 4'8"...well, I'm shrinking a little bit. But that's my "official" height! LOL!! I've been doing SP for about 7-8 months and I've lost about 24lbs. It really does look different on us "vertically challenged" people! My mom was 5'6", my dad was 5'2" (he had polio) and my sister is about 5'1". I had some surgeries when I was a kid, so that's really the reason I'm so short.

I went bowling with a group of 5th graders on Friday...I fit right in!! LOL!!

Have a good day! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Boy am I happy I found this team emoticon
I'm 4'8"! So is my mom (although she's probably shrinking) and so is my sister (although she says she's slightly taller than I am.
When the 3 of us go out together we do occasionally get 2nd looks. We choose to believe it's because we're so attractive, ha ha. Dad is 5'8" and I guess mom's genes won out. I wear a size 5.5 - 6 shoe and I'm not fine boned and have never been skinny(or even thin). 97-103 is a good weight for me, but I've fallen out of the habit of eating right and staying in shape. I've been with SparkPeople for about 3 weeks now and it's really helping me get back on track. I'm trying to slowly lose weight by just watching calories and portion size so far. I once tried a different diet that was so restrictive that it made me grumpy. Sorry, I just need a cookie every here and there or I'm a bitch! I'm learning to eat A cookie, not a handful.
If I can maintain a 1-2 pound a week progress for the next few months I'll be quite happy. Then, as you all have mentioned, it'll be much easier to find cute outfits. It's so difficult to find something cute for my height, but then you add in the bumps around the middle section and everything else I'm sensitive about and shopping is downright tiresome.
Anyway, glad to be here with all you people who would love to come up to me and tell me how tall I make you feel.

I am five foot zero! But my mom is now shorter than me and still shrinking!!! I am an 'hourglass' figure so when I am heavier, it really shows up everywhere!!But I hate the fact that it is hard to find things to fit me on TOP. I have at least 25-30 pounds to take off to be more in line with my height!!! don't ask me how I gained this, cause I really don't know. I can always lose the first 7 pounds and then I give up. this year though, is THE YEAR!!! and next year I will be 50. Gotta keep excercising too!

I am a wopping 4'9.5" . I enjoy being my height but not my weight. My Hubby is about a foot taller then me at 5'10" . Lossing weight is a must i can not find anything to wear without looking pregnant. Its bittersweet when someone comes up to me and askes me if i'm pregnant I say no i'm just fat thanks. My hubby and i want to have a baby but i want to lose the weight first! People can be so rude sometimes.

I'm 5" 0 and have always had trouble finding clothes. I have a large frame but am also curvy. Petite clothes are cut too small for my chest, hips, bum, but plus size clothing swims arounds my shoulders, arms, and waist. Needless to say, I have to try on alot of clothes when I go shopping and then do alot of altering.

I'm 5'2" and I too encounter problems. Have you tried buying capris or 3/4 length shirts? Some of my capris are long on me and if you didn't know any better, you'd think they were high waters emoticon ! I love 3/4 length shirts cause you don't have to worry about getting your sleeves wet when you wash your hands emoticon .

Hello everyone another 4'11" person here. I usually wear shoes with bigger, bulkier heels so i don't really have to shorten the petite pants I buy. I did notice that after losing the weight and my backside getting a little smaller I may have to start shortening my pants, the big heels aren't working as well to keep the pants off or not so close to the floor. emoticon

4ft 10 and tiny! size 1US shoes 32 international! Over here junior age 11 good or petite sizes in Uk work well for pants.

Hey well I say that I am 5' but it's more like 4'11" & 3/4. LOL! I am only 23 and find the hardest time finding stylish jeans or pants to fit me but I actually did order some pants from victoria's secret in short and they are a good length for me. I would actually like them a bit longer bc I don't like for my socks to show when I sit. ha ha...

I am 5'2" (I usually round up to 5'3") but my best friend is somewhere between 4'9" and 4'10". She found that if she buys capris made to hit above a "normal" sized womans ankles... they work perfectly as pants too.

OH am I happy I found this group! I am 4'11... okay so I too am rounding up! I really hard to find clothes as well... but the part that really frustrates me is how just a few lbs shows up SO MUCH MORE on us shorties! Other than that, I like being this height!

This is a great thread!
I'm 5' & 3/4" but of course, I round up so I say I'm 5'1"!! Buying pants & skirts is always such a depressing thing when all the cute pants are about a foot too long! Capri pants are at my ankles! Even the petites are long. (And yes I'd love to know why I have to get bigger sizes in the petites?) I love those hippy peasant skirts but they're all dragging on the floor & then they make me look even more short!!! Before I had my daughter I fit perfectly in a children's size 12 & the height was just right!
Someone needs to create a line of fashionable clothes for women our size & all of our different weights. Also have you guys noticed that normal women's clothes waistlines are up under our boobs? Not a good look!! LOL

Leah,

I found it at http://www.iloveindia.com//fitness/weight-
loss/healthy-body-weight.html.

Although I have seen on some charts that allow 4'11" still within range at 97lbs. My mom weighed 91 lbs before I came along. She wore a size 0. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen the pictures. She is also the same height as I am. Since then she has hovered around the 115-120 range. She works out as well but it doesn't take much for her to maintain her weight.

Hi Nette,
Where did you get that chart? I have posted mine for this site, but is seems to be the same for me on most. That one seems a bit different. Thanks! Leah

PS My mom is 5' and has been "buff" at about 98 pounds her entire life....of course she works hard to stay that way!

Jessie,
I was 4'11" 3/4 and weighed 121 lbs when I joined the military and of course I got smaller once I started physical training. I did run into a soldier that was about 4'10". I know this because I was so giddy to find someone that was shorter than me and was not in the 3rd grade. lol

Height Small Frame Medium Frame Large Frame
4'10" 102-111 109-121 118-131
4'11" 103-113 111-123 120-134

Hope this helps.

The general rule is 100 pounds for someone that is 5 feet tall, then add 4-5 pounds for every inch over that. Since we are under, you subtract, but it also has a lot to do with build. My range is 85-115 & I am 4'9". I think when you fill out your goals on here it will give you a range. Hope that helps. :) Leah

I am 4'11" Okay so i am actually 4'10" 3/4 but like everyone else i round up. I didn't know there was anyone else out there. I feel so short sometimes. I weigh 135 and i want to get down to a healthy weight. I have seen conflicting charts that say different lbs. Some 125 is the highest and then I weighed 118lb and wasn't allowed in the military so i don't know how much i should weigh. I figured about 110 but if someone knows tell me. I'm new to this and i want to start off right.

Wow! I'm 5'0.....a giant compared to 4'9!!

They keep telling us to get in touch with our bodies. Mine isn't all that communicative but I heard from it the other day after I said, "Body, how'd you like to go to the six o'clock class in vigorous toning?" Clear as a bell my body said, "Listen bitch... do it and die."

Hey Gina! Welcome, I am 4'11 also and I have got to know what kind of bike you have to fit you at that height? I have been looking but can't seem to find the right bike that can be lowered....your pic looks like a Yamaha, possibly Harley?

Welcome Gina,

I'm from NC via US Army. After my husband and I got out we decided to move here to raise our daughters. That was 7yrs ago this July. It's a wonderful place to raise children and to slow down a little. LOL

Hi everyone! Ran across this sparkteam and had to join. You guys all sound like you are describing me. I am 4'11 and 3/4. I always say 5' because just like you guys, I round up. My husban is also over 6'. I have the same issues with clothes. Although I will be checking out JCP now.

NCHAWK, I am an NC girl myself. I lived in N. Wilkesboro forever. I just moved to Savannah, Ga about 6 months ago, but my heart will always be in NC.

I have to agree with Kay. JCP is a great place to buy pants! Last year I was visiting ATL, GA and found a sale. Most of the women's jean's, capri's and skirts were $14.99! To top it all off, the had petite short sizes! I had never heard of such a thing. So now I look for petite short before I seek out petites.

I am 5'1" and my dh is 4'7". He has a genetic bone disease and didn't grow much. He is asked all the time if he is a midget. We have a VERY hard time finding clothes for him!! I have to alter almost everything we buy to fit him. I have found that most petite clothing can work for me (some with minor alterations) but we very rarely can buy something off the rack for him and he can just put it on. Most dress shirts go past his knees and the list goes on.

Starting SP weight 10/14/04--195
Reached my goal weight 09/08/06--132

4'11" and what I hate is:

1. Petite clothes are rarely cute and hard to find!
2. Petite clothes, if they fit at all, I have to buy a size 12 or 14, and in normal clothes I'm a size 6!!! What gives? some junior clothes fit me with heels, but they have to be ghetto booty friendly since I'm curvy!

Good Luck!

I am also 4'8" tall, (oxymoron?!) on my way to 4'7", thanks to osteopenia. Clothes are a pain!!! The best pants are at JC Penneys because they not only have petite, they have PETITE SHORT! They fit me just right! I don't wear heels; I'm afraid of heights! LOL!!

I LOVE Little People, Big World! I can honestly relate to most of the issues - closing hoods, reaching for food at store (Food Lion at least has stools now!). At work, they let me have my own stool to file paperwork in charts and I can always ask someone to help me.

I love to joke about my height! I've also heard that if you are an adult under 5' tall, you can be eligible for full disability benefits...not sure if I would apply or not!

Some docs were on the floor at work today, asking how I had lost all this weight. They said that we really do have different challenges and issues; 20 pounds makes a huge difference on someone like me as opposed to someone bigger.

Have a great day!

I have found that most petite pants fit me....don't tell me I have long legs! I do have a problem with sleeves a lot and they are harder to shorten. Whoever invented 3/4 sleeves is a genius. ;)

Well, I couldn't pass up this thread... I am 4'11 and I am in clothing hades when it comes to finding pants and shoes! I am glad to know that I am not the only one. PETITE's are definitely too long for me also. Plus literally they don't fit in the right places. As far as the guys go, well I always have dated taller. My hubby is 6'3 too funny! I'm with you girls....

LilKim25...I agree with you, who makes the so called petite clothing anyway? I'm sure those people aren't really petite and they're definitely not petite and curvy...

I love being this height (not the weight though), people always make sure I'm in the front at parades and concerts. Its also a great way to meet a cute guy, I also need help reaching items on the top shelf at stores...and yes, Nette, the tall men sure do like us short women, there's a guy that has the hots for me and he's 6ft 7in, thats almost 2ft taller than me, can you imagine!!!

I agree...the problem is, nowdays, the petite clothing is made for people who are like 5'4". We need REAL petite clothing for people who ARE petite!

I'm 4'10" and wearing bootcut trousers to fit a 12-13yr old schoolgirl (price only 3!). My jumpers all have the sleeves turned up and dresses/skirts are usually too long. I recently bought some fabric and a pattern to make a blouse/summer jacket and the cost was more than buying a ready-made item. I wish there was more choice for petite clothes. emoticon

Don''t give up, losing weight is like walking downhill and carrying a lighter load as you go. After a while, fill a carrier bag with the weight you have lost and feel good about yourself when you put it down.
Eating healthy and drinking lots of water gives you beautiful skin and takes years off you.

I'm 4' 10" myself. I'm not a little person----I'm just fun sized!
Finding clothes is difficult, because of length of everything, not just legs, arms and torso and rise in jeans is always a killer!
I wear a whole lot of skirts because its I find them easier to alter.
On the bright side, if you can find shoes small enough, you can always wait til they go on sale because chances are your size is still there!

Let us be realists; Dream the impossible.

I'm 4'11" and 3/4. Gotta count it all. lol It's still difficult to find pants even over 4'9".
I think it was kindergarten that I started to notice that there was something different about the other kids. I even had a classmate ask me in middle school if I was a little person or as she put it a dwarf or midget or something. Ignorance is bliss.

My height was always the center of a joke or some weird nickname. My mother is short as well. What I always found hard to understand is why my uncles are all over 6ft tall. I think the taller height for the females in my family is 5'8". One thing I've found out in my life, tall men like short women. They think we're so tiny and adorable.

Hey what can we say, right?

Hi.
I am 4'9" and so of course when I was younger, I got all the midget jokes, too. I have a friend that is 4'10" and one that is 4'11", so of course we have looked it up. Most sites say that "midget" isn't a medical term, so unless you have a form of dwarfism, you are just plain short! However, you can of course call yourselves whatever you want. emoticon

Jadenzmom,

You would fit right in with some of my relatives. DH has a sister that's under 4'10" and her daughter is way under that. Neither of them have weight issues but they watch everything they eat.

I have lots of cousins who are shorter than 4'11" too. When they come down here from Canada I feel so tall at 5 foot !!!

hmmm...so technically, I'm a little person emoticon . I saw that episode of Little People, Big World and when I told my brother that, he just laughed hysterically, he's been calling me a midget, 4-eva.

I have heard that it is anyone under 4'10". (I watch the show Little People Big World on TLC and that's where I heard it). I know, though, if you are under that height, you can get a handicap parking permit. (Again, from Little People Big World).

Does anyone know the height of a dwarf or midget. I know it's somewhere in the 3 ft area and goes up to 4 something I'm sure what. Sounds like your aunt was a midget. DD

HI there; You may very well be the shortest. I understand the extra problems you face. I have an aunt that is around your height. She was married to a guy that was 6'4". Talk about the odd couple.
I would guess you could look in the kids section in some stores. But you would be limited to a small variety to choose from. I've done that before. DD

I am 4'11" and i have a hard time finding pants to fit me. I, fortunatly, don't mind wearing heels everyday...I think that I have just gotten used to it.

Hi guys,

I'm relatively new to this group and have been looking at some posts and how tall people are and begun thinking...Am I one of the shortest people in this group? I stand at 4ft 8in, though I usually say that I'm 4' 9" cuz most people don't know the difference.

Any other 4' 10" and under out there cuz we have a unique set of issues even different from our other petite sisters, I mean, petite clothing starts at 4' 11", where does that leave us. I also have to take 3 inches off my petite pants and unlike others I don't want to wear 4 inch heels everyday, all day.

Just curious how many of us there are...could use the additional support from the extra short, shorties.
