@ Klstyron .......glad to help.

I try to not mention anymore I'm trying to lose weight. People look at me like I'm a crazy woman because to the average person I'm a good size and I realize that. I just want to be toned and at the size I was comfy in my 2 piece swim suit. I'm not looking for that model body , (never happen at 5'1.5 anyway) lol.

Keep up the healthy eating and working out and it'll come along. When the others see you actually have definition in your arms, they'll start to understand a bit more.

If you don't love yourself....how can you expect others to.

Thank you VKKESU.

They are rather tall! I do think they are judging on what they're used to seeing TBH. I've gotten a lot less flak from people who knew me when I was considerably thinner.

And yes strength training is so very important. I look better at a toned 120 than a flabby 110 IMO.

I may get up the courage to one day do bathing suit pictures...0.0.

My advice is don't give your friends your weight. If they aren't short like we are they have no idea that 115-130 is a good weight for us. They are judging on what they are either used to seeing or off their own weights. Jelousy is a mean thing. If they ask, just say you stopped using a scale and are just eating healthy and working out.

At 42 I worked out 3 days a week, strength trained 1-2 of those days. I toned up and really looked good. I'm 5'1.5 and medium build. (they show I could be 110# , but I don't see it). When I was 117# and toned I looked great, but at 115# I started looking too thin I believed. I do know that when I was 120 but not toned, I looked much heavier and didn't like the way I looked (when I hadn't done weights for a couple of months).

Do strength training, with cardio, it makes all the difference in the world in how we look and feel. You photo looked fine , but hard to tell when dressed (and no don't post naked photos) LOL.

@Julie. I believe so. I was trying my best at the time to put on muscle while I lost some fat (I always do, it's good for ya!). I don't know where I'll end up but I know I'm not doing anything stupid so all should be good. (I didn't there either, was just eating mostly when hungry and laying off the processed junk, basically same plan I'm on now).

Curious if you were muscular in that photo? on my iPhone, that website won't let me "zoom in" like I can with most photos, so it is hard to see details (and I don't have my readers on.).

The reason I ask is I've been 5'3" most of my life but 130 was the lowest I got as a teen (sophomore-junior year) and I was still pudgy in the middle - didn't really do strength training because I didn't really understand about it, and I had lost 30 pounds by running and walking at the track at night, no breakfast, ate up all my meal at school lunch, drank lots of water, and a moderate dinner with my family in the evening. Wasn't the best way to lose weight but was what I could figure to do at the time. And now my doctor believes I could get to 120 pounds as she says I am shrinking a bit, 5'2.5".

So my thinking is just disregard what your friends say - keep it to your self but continue working toward the goal you believe is best. Once you are there, your friends might see that you are still beautiiful. Or they might not - in which case you now know they are fair weather friends and have their own issues to deal with ...

Gotta remember that muscle weighs more but takes up less volume/space - so to people who don't know that fact, you will look "thin" at that weight, but it's just cause you weren't posing with your strong muscles all pumped out!!!

You need to do what makes you comfortable. I'm 4'11.75" and my early 20's was 102. I have been hovering around 106-108 for over two years now and I can still pinch an inch on my middle! I certainly do not think I am too thing and would love to get to 102 and not hover, but that's me.

Not sure on that picture, but you looked like you were 14-15? Regardless, you did not look that thin there AT all. Have you seen how skinny teenagers are today?

I think I'm going to change my focus a little tbh. I just read over what I've written and thought to myself that the big thing is stopping my emotional eating habits and getting my fitness minutes. I think that's where my focus needs to be right now.

I think my friends might honestly have some jealousy issues (women do) because I've been thin at points in my adult life and they really haven't. I was one of those people who couldn't gain to save their lives until puberty. I've spent my adult life trying desperately to control the binge eating that honestly helped me through a difficult adolescence and young adulthood in an unstable family. Since I've rarely been a healthy weight in a healthy way I don't quite know what I should be aiming for to be honest! I do plan on bringing up the issue with my doc but sometimes they just go by BMI charts and I am a bigger boned lady with a tendency toward muscular legs!

I don't think you look "too thin" in the picture. You appear happy and healthy to me.

I agree with everyone we are all different. I'm 5"1~ish and am at 133 right now. My doctor said that I have around 5-7 more pounds to lose of fat. but if I'm gaining muscle in the process then my net weight might not change that much. I carry a lot of my extra fat around my middle as well and that is what the doc and I are more concerned with getting rid of. I don't think weight is what people should always concentrate on. I mean yeah it is a number that is measurable. I've lost almost 30 pounds during my journey and that is something I measure. But when you get to a certain point it is more about how you feel, how your clothes fit, BMI, how healthy your heart is, and etc.

You know before I thought about your question for a couple minutes longer, my initial gut reaction was negative and instantly defensive of you. I thought "are the people telling you that you look too thin trying to derail your goals? are they really trying to support you or are they jealous that you are looking good and being healthy?" I hope you have a great group though and glad you reached out. I like this group because we are all trying to handle being short and different requirements for us because we are shorter than "normal". Plus we get to pool all of the things that we have heard and read and our own trial and errors in one place. We're here for you girl!

I think I'm going to do that too Tabby. 120-125 seems good to me. Especially if I'm toned. I'm just too large framed for lower weights to look good on me.

It really depends on what YOU want and how YOU feel. I would love to get back down to 115 lbs which is what I was the summer after HS, but I know that it is probably not a reasonable goal and that I would probably be too thin at that weight. After having kids, my body has definitely changed and honestly, I was very happy with being at 143 after having my twins. I looked great and felt great too. (Besides being totally tired from being a Mommy to two newborns and a two year old! LOL!)
Being under 5 ft tall (4'11" to be exact) and with my frame and body type, I would look awful at only 105 lbs, which is what the "charts" say is my ideal weight.
I have my goal at 130 lbs and will reassess once I get closer to that weight.

I love the birthday suit suggestion! Honestly I do that sometimes when I am not motivated to get on my treadmill. I am happy at progress I have made but also know I am not where I want to be and I look forward to the day when I can look at myself and think "yea I did it!"

It doesn't matter how old you are. You need to figure out where you are happy with your weight at. You don't look too skinny in that pic but as many people have said I don't think you should go any smaller either.

I wish you luck!

I agree with ANAIS57 (Catherine), do what feels right for you, don't be a slave to our mental image that is pounded into our minds as to what the "ideal" weight is.

In my early 30s, I worked my butt off just to get to 120s. Yea it looked nice but I rubber banded right back to my body's comfie weight of 130's. Because I was so dead set on that 120ish mark, I got discouraged that the numbers went back up despite my continued efforts and gave up altogether just to eat my way back to 164. I look back on pics now and think "Dang, 130's looked nice" lol.

Weight loss combined with toning/strength training can make one more comfortable in your skin. Yes, look at the scale as a loose measure but better yet make it your goal to look in the mirror (in a bday suit) and take pride in the progress!

Best of luck to you in your journey!!!

@ ANAIS57 I tried that site and it said 121 would be what I should shoot for. I've got a large frame I know is part of it. My mom is 5 feet even and at 105-110 does look way too thin and has a similar bone structure so considering that objectively I guess 120 would be good for me.

I've never maintained a weight for very long but I feel my best in the 115-120 range. Vanity makes me want to lose another 5 after that for the ever elusive 110 I was at high school graduation (which may be silly seeing as I'm 28!). I'm one of those people too who carries all their weight around their stomach so tends to have average to thin everything else.

i am 4'11" and have been overweight all my life. i am currently 161. the lowest i have ever been is 135 and the highest is 194.... and based on doctors and insurance charts most of my life i was striving for 105 lbs. i haven't been 105 lbs since i was 12yrs old. the charts are so wrong and so are many doctors!

on the dukan diet site when figuring target weight they ask you a series of questions about how your weight has fluctuated over time, familial history do your thumb and forefinger touch when you put it around your wrist, etc. when i entered all the info it came back with a target weight of 136 vs my goal of 130. i think this is so much more realistic for me. because we are short doesn't mean we all fit into a size chart. we are all built so differently.

what feels right for you? at what weight do you feel good, fit, powerful? at what weight have you been able to maintain that weight. I got down to 135 once and got pregnant shortly after... so i don't know the answer to the maintenance question. so at almost 55 years old i will be finding that out for the first time.

The "rule of thumb" is 100 lbs for the first 5' of height, and five pounds per inch after that. So, 125-130 lbs for a woman 4' 10-3/4" is not "too thin" at all and I think you look great in the photo. Do what works for you and forget what everybody else thinks!

I agree with AERFAERY. If you go lower than that it wouldn't be beneficial. However in the end it's all about how you feel about yourself.

A couple of my friends have told me I look too thin in this photo. I'm worried because I really want to be at least down to the size I was in it (4'10 3/4 about 125-130 lbs). What do you guys think?
