I love my height! I'm 5'2 so without heels I'm short and adorable and with heels, I get to play tall at 5'7.

I think taller women don't look as cute when they're heavier also.

There are times when I don't mind/even like my height - like when my husband who is 6'2" says he loves that I'm "little" (I'm a foot shorter than him). But I don't always love the other side: the fact that every little bit of weight gain shows up so much more, or not being able to reach things around the house, or having difficulty buying clothes without having them altered, etc. On that last point I just took four pairs of pants to be altered, and between having them taken in and hemmed the cost was about 1-2 pairs of new pants. Heels wouldn't have saved them unfortunately... Kind of annoying but what can you do :)

I am 5'2 1/2" and I always wished to be 5'4". I even had 5'4" on my driver's license for many years. Then, a few years ago, I decided to GET REAL. I changed my weight and my height on one of those license renewal years. My children could eat soup off of my head -- but I'm ok with that!

I'm 5'1" and I've always liked it, except when my family and friends teased me. You see, I'm the genetic anomaly of the family because the rest of my family is tall. My 11 year old sister is almost as tall as me! I also don't like that a healthy weight for me is very low compared to other people. However, I would not want to be tall! I just don't think it would fit me. I wouldn't trade my height for a tall person's, I like being fun-sized emoticon

When I was younger, I wished I was taller, at least 5ft 6", to balance my curves, haha. But ever since I started working in my current company, I just love to be 5ft 2" - quite advantage among the taller colleagues, no need for me to stretch my arms whenever I want to grab something at higher places, hehe.

I agree with you! When I was in 8th grade, I hated my height. One day I was talking with a friend of average height and one who was tall. They both were unhappy with their height. I made a decision right then and there to like my height. There's nothing I can do about it (I can gain or lose weight, I can dye my hair, etc.) and if others don't like the alternative, why not enjoy who I am?

I love! Love! Love my height! When I was in 8th grade I learned that I was 5' and 3/4 inches. I'm in my 40's now. About 6 yrs ago I found out that I had grown. I am now 5'2" or so. I like heels but they don't like me. I don't believe in my feet hurting so I rarely wear them. I have always received positive attention for my height, even if someone was teasing me about it. My mom was shorter than me and always received positive attention for it also. I'm sure that helped shaped my view of it.

I think I feel a lot like you do -CatharinewI ...I really dont like being short either. I'm 5'3 & 3/4'' and that feels short especially when I'm around tall individuals. When I wear platforms it's not so bad but when I wear tennis shoes I really feel short, I get embarrassed if I run into anyone while in tennis shoes or flats because many times it is commented on ..'Oh my..you are short aren't you?" When I was a young teen my cousin suddenly announced like it was a terrible thing that I was only 5'1 back then and I never forgot it. Well I accept now that I'm the height I am and wear heals but I wish I was 5'5 or 5'6. I give all short gals credit that dont mind being petite...I've known a few and am impressed that they dont care and walk with pride.

CATHARINEWI--I know how you feel, but I'm 4'11" and I'm a department head. I'm the shortest person in my department (probably on campus) and I am highly respected--maybe despite my height, but because of my deeds. I may have a napoleon complex, but it works for me.

Good question.

I hate admitting this, but I am much less happy with my height now than I have been at any other time in my life.

When I was in my teens, I liked being small b/c I felt like I could date any boys I wanted to and I liked feeling "cute" and "petite" which are appealing when you're young.

Then I hit my twenties and thirties and honestly, I never gave my height much thought. I hardly noticed people's heights or how I stood relative to them. I don't know why but it just wasn't something I paid much attention to. And that was true whether I was thin or overweight. I didn't wear heels and didn't really worry about it.

Now that I'm in my 40's, I've begun to really notice my height and how short I am compared to others. I notice it at work, where I feel like being a short person doesn't project as good a professional image. I notice it in clothing, when I am forever trying to find styles designed for "petites" and discouraged by the limited selection and how unflattering "regular" women's clothes are on my frame. And I notice it when I'm in groups of people, where I feel short.

It doesn't help that I've recently started dating again and the last two guys I've had relationships with were 6'3" and 6'2". I started wearing heels all the time. Now I feel really weird w/o my heels. Like I'm shorter than ever. emoticon

I'm mostly happy, I feel just a bit annoyed when I have to climb on chairs or similar to reach stuff taller people gets without a problem. Sometimes I think 5'6 would be my perfect height, but I guess my height has its advantages too sometimes, plus it's nothing i can't change, so it's okay as it is :)

I don't have a problem with my height in itself. I'm 5'0" and used to everyone around me looking like a giant to me. Even my children who are now 13 and 16 years and both much taller than I am. But I am really tired of the inconvenience that goes with my height. I live in South Africa and it is very difficult to find clothing that is proportional. We have only one store that stocks Petite clothing - one! And their range is small and not good quality. So us petite South African ladies don't have much choice for clothing, we mostly have to buy average-proportioned clothing and try to alter it to fit, and it is never quite right. I really wish the retailers her would wake up!

Yay for this group! I am new to Spark and already this is my fav group. I am 5'1 (I tell ppl I am 5'2 and try to stand tall) but truthfully I love being little. Leaves my options open for dating! The only problem...I can't eat much and those few pounds really show.

I like being little and my boyfriend thinks its cute too! It is a pain when it comes to weight though because we simply CAN'T carry those few extra lbs as well as our taller friends. Its a fact I'm just going to have to accept *sigh*..

So yeah I have days when I'm standing next to my 5ft 9, 130lb best friend feeling like an oompa loompa that I would LOVE a few extra inches but in general I'm happy being a shortie.

I obviously don't dwell on things I can't change, but I would LOVE to be taller. My ideal height would be 5'8 or 5'9, but I'm not greedy. 5'7 would be just fine too. emoticon

That's exactly why I'm happy with who I am. My former boss had a retirement party today. His wife introduced me to their dil (who was a tall woman). The wife told her that I might be short, but I am mighty! One of the greatest compliments I could get!

I find that as I have gotten older my height matters less to me, of course it would make shopping for jeans easier. I use to work in a school and found you really needed to have a sense of humor about being almost the same size as the students. They were always quick to remind me they were almost as tall as me!! People have to accept and enjoy the things they cannot change.

I LOVE being small.
At 4'9" my goal weight is 100lbs, which would make me very light and I won't feel weird about my boyfriend carrying me so I can see things sometimes.
Also I always say that good things come in small packages!

Yes I am. I would rather be 5'1 than 6'1 - that's the way I've always looked at it. My mom acts like it's some sort of tragedy. She's 5'6 and my dad is 6'0. They act like I have a disease. My daughter (whose father is 6'1) has topped at 5'2. Doctor has said she is done growing (by looking at growth plates not guessing).

By the way @CGEMMELL my daughter and myself were both born over 9 lbs and she was in the 85th percentile as a baby. She is the taller of the two of us at 5'2.

Goal to be down 25 lbs by Christmas from 9.14.11.

Being short never bothered me. However, as I get older I seem to be compressing and have lost an inch, so I'm 5'1/2" now. I don't like that. My son is a bit over 6' and always felt sorry for me, but I guess any guy would want to be taller than me. I have a new granddaughter who is in the 90th%ile in height and weight, even though her mother, my daughter, is only 5'2". It'll be interesting to see how she turns out.

Don't ask if I'm happy about my weight.................................... emoticon

I know that you can't change the way God makes you, but no to be honest I am not happy with my height.
By reading the comments, it seems most of us are not.

hmm take my current weight and stretch me 4 inches taller? I would love it!!! I'm only 5', wouldn't mind a few more inches...then I could probably stop rolling the cuffs on my sleeves as they are always too long!

Generally, I would like to be a few inches taller, but would it make me any happier? - I can't say that's true. I'm a pretty happy person already. It would make things easier, though. No more hemming every pair of pants I buy, no more standing on my toes to kiss my 6' husband, no more blocked views of concerts and movies - that would be nice. It would also mean that I didn't have to watch every single thing I eat, since 5 pounds one way or the other is practically a size difference! I'm 4'11.5" by the way....

Considering that I cannot change it, I'm ecstatic to be five-feet-tall! LOL!
What rude people think or say, especially as I've gotten older and wiser, is of very little consequence. Besides, I never had to worry about how tall the guys I dated were - that was always a bonus!

Actually, no. I am not too happy about my height. I am 5' 2", I think. Maybe a little shorter. I don't really think about it. But, if I had a choice, I would love to be a few inches taller.

There used to be a young man working in the same office and he is probably about 7 feet. He walked twice almost on top of me. When I was behind him, he would turn around and not notice me until he was almost walking on top of me. I heard he had 2 children since he worked here. I hope he noticed them.

Yes - in short

I found it interesting because an SP friend commented on how tall she is and when she walks in people's reaction is "DAY-UM!!!!" So, I've never suffered from this, but the comments (for short and tall) go both ways.
