All the time, I'm 29, but few people say ages older than 22.... It was kind of a shock though when 2 or 3 years ago they stopped checking my ID in pubs asking if it was a fake because I didn't look my age at all :p

All the time. I'm 34 & people think i am my 16 yr old daughters older sister. Or they can't believe i have 3 kids.

Funny story....Hubby & i went to the drive in movie. It was $5 per person. The girl working was maybe 18-19. My hubby paid & was going to drive away when she said sir you paid to much. He thought maybe he gave her a $20 instead of a $10, but Nooooo. she said 13 & under are free. we busted up laughing.....I was 23 @ the time.

I'm 52 and I get told I look like I'm in my 40's and when I answer telemarketers they think I'm a minor and want to talk to my mommy. LOL

I'm 51 and people often think I am in my late 30'searly 40's. The last time I was asked for my ID I was in my forties and out for a drink with a girl friend and the waitress asked for my ID. Boy was she embarresed when she saw my age! I just laughed and told her that it was the best compliment I got that day!

The youngest I've been mistaken for is 15. I've been told a lot that I look 16 though. It really depends on what I'm wearing. When I go out, then I generally look more mature and people guess me for my age (20), but on a day to day basis I wear dresses that look a bit younger. Plus, I have a slightly high pitched voice.

I get it all the time not just by the looks, but on the phone, on voice programs when i Play video games. LOl one funny story i have is when I was 30 someone called my house and asked for my mommy. I usually don't talk to people who do that but I was in a good mood and decided that I was gonna play along and said hold on I will look for her. Wait I am the mommy thanks for calling but if your selling something I am not interested and If your debt collector Acorrding to you I too young to pay bills so have a great day.

I get it all the time. From my friends and co-workers. It's really funny from my co-workers since most of them are my height or shorter. I also get the innocent and inexperienced. Today was very funny. The conversation was a little on the raunchy side, and all of a sudden one of them asks me if I'm married.

I so agree with this!
When I was 23 and dating my now husband, we went to a baseball game. The person at the counter asked him how old his daughter was. He's only 5 years older than me. I thought I was going to die from embarrassment. Or, when I started college and everyone in my dorm thought I was someone's little sister. It goes on and on. I always hated it when people would say "you'll appreciate it when you're older".
At 38 now, I do appreciate it more, but having lived a life semi-impaired by looking excessively young I could have done without it then. emoticon
I am looking forward now to a more youthful appearance when I lose the rest of the weight. Even though I have lots and lots of wrinkles, thanks to life and a set of preemie twins with reflux. emoticon .

When I was 25, I got pulled over because the officer thought I was truant from high school.

When I was overweight I looked my age, but now that I'm thin again people think I'm young.

Just the other day, a woman told me that I "didn't look old enough to be the mother of those kids." I told her I was "29 and born in 1973." You should have seen her crack up when she did the math!

I no longer pass for being younger. (I'm 58) But when I was in my 20's, 30's, and 40's I was constantly guessed at being much younger. A cop stopped me one time to question if I was old enough to be driving. That was hilarious and really made my day.

Constantly. I'm 2 weeks shy of being 25 and get carded to see a rated R movies half the time. I used to get told consistently that I need to be 17 and not 16 to see the rated R movie, I was 18-22 at the time. I would have to make them call the manager over so I could get my ticket. The cool thing was I would get free tickets all the time because they fought me on it. It was especially annoying because in that state you get a different license (horizontal instead of vertical) when you turn 18.

My whole group of friends gets carded every time we try to go to a bar. They love it since most of them are in their late 20's or early 30's.

When my hubby and I go out to eat with my parents they always ask if I want a kids menu.

Drives me nuts. Everyone says I'll appreciate it when I'm older, but I don't think I ever will.

Earlier in my life I looked much younger than my age. When I started packing on the pounds I think that I started looking my age. Now that I'm 47 and lost 56 lbs I'm curious if I've also de-aged myself. My supervisor has recently told me I look about 10 years younger now.

Yes, though not quite as young as before.

I was 20 when I got married, but people thought I was 13 due to my height and weight (I was under 100lbs at the time). My poor husband, who unfortunately looked older than he was (30 vs his actual 23) had people in other departments at work treating him like dirt because they thought he was a pervert.

I am 26 and am often mistaken for a high school student, that that knocks a good 10 years off. It does make it a bit hard to teach at a high school, though, because it is just always a surprise to everyone that I am a teacher.

Once subbing at 24 I was mistaken for a Junior High student and not a sub, that was really awkward.

I used to, as well, but it hasn't happened recently--don't know if I finally just look my age or if it's the weight, or what.

Definitely I've been looking unhealthy the last several years (because I've been unhealthy, of course)--maybe when I work up to a higher level of fitness I'll regain some youthful glow?

Or maybe I still look younger, but since I'm decades over 21 younger isn't what it used to be, LOL!

All the time, still.

Back when DH and I were first married I used to order drinks, and if they carded me, he wouldn't order. Because I was 21, and he was 2 years younger and looked older than me. (Don't do this if you are under 21, it is BAD.)

I got carded every time I bought drinks in my 20's. In my late 30's, I got carded when we were out camping and didn't have my ID. I kept saying, 'you have got to be kidding me...'

But I think it's funny. It never bothered me even as a young adult. Now people sometimes think I am in my early 30's and it makes me laugh.

I think weight plays a part too. When I was discussing wanting to get back to the weight I was during freshman year of college (110 lbs), my friend commented that I looked like I was 12, hopefully that wont happen when I get to this weight again.

I used to get mistaken for being much younger a lot before.. But now, not so much. It still happens when I'm at the gym, probably because my hair's up in a ponytail, and I have no makeup on. However, when I'm dressed up or in work clothes, forget about it, LOL. And while I still get carded for alcohol purchases, it's now usually accompanied by "it's our policy to do this with every customer... we know you're over 21." Ouch. emoticon

I think the youthful appearance is not just about height, it's about your face and how you carry yourself. My sister and I are around the same height (5'1"), but she's hardly EVER mistaken for someone younger, even though she's only 25. Also, our voices are fairly deep, so I believe that also adds "years" to our appearances when we speak.

ALWAYS. I usually get 28-33 when people guess (some people are being quite generous). I am 43 and when I tell people I have a 21 year old daughter they always say "did you have her when you were 9?!?!?" Don't think I'll ever get tired of it. My boyfriend always shouts "that's cuz she's short". I wanna smack him sometimes lol.

All the time. I use to hate it when I was a teenager and wanted to look older, now that I'm 40 I love it! My 13 year old daughter was marching with her band in a local parade so I met her at the end of the route to walk home. Some lady stopped us to thank us for the great music and to tell our parents to vote for her husband in the next election. I smiled all the way home.

Also, I work at an elementary school and have been told more than once that someone thought I was one of the kids when I walk down the hall with the older classes.

My favorite is when I am the only one of my friends to be carded when we go out. They hate it! One of the perks of being only 5 feet tall.

All the time, and I'm not complaining either. lol I'm a half inch under 5' and in addition to that, since I've lost weight, people tend to think I look a lot younger than I really am. I went to see a new doctor for the first time, and she responded by saying, "Holy crap!!!! I wasn't even going to check your cholestrol levels because I thought you were in your early 20's. I can't believe you're 31!! Whatever you're doing..keep doing it!!" LOL

People have always thought I was younger than I am, and I'm sure some that is height related. I'm 42 now, and at least happy that people still think I'm in my 30's.
One problem I do have is that I look older when I'm heavier. So...My goal now is to lose weight,so that I look even younger as I get older. Any motivation you can find is helpful to achieving your weight loss goals!!

Hi! I was out with friends at a Chinese restaurant and ordered a mixed drink. The waitress looked at me and asked for my id. She was in disbelief. I was 35 at the time. She then stood back in the doorway of the kitchen staring at me the rest of the time we were there. Recently I was talking with some people I just had met. We were sharing stories of our lives and this one person kept staring at me with a question mark on her face. She finally asked me how old I was. I told her 63. She couldn't believe me. She told me she couldn't piece my life together because my life experience stories and the age she thought I was just wasn't adding up correctly in her mind. She thought I was in my 30's!

Not only do I look 10-15 years younger, my voice sounds young as well. But I don't mind, I know that I will always look younger than I am not just because of my height but because "youth" runs in my family. My parents and siblings all look at least 10 years younger than their age.

But there are times when I get irritated by people's comments, especially those people who just can't help being rude and ignorant. A few years ago, I had a co-worker tell me "Wow, I can't believe you're 27. I thought you were a little girl trying to act grown up". emoticon

Anyone with a similar experience?

I'm a university professor but since most of the time I wear jeans, sneakers and a backback, my students who themselves are 20+yo usually consider me to be some 20+ as well :))

Almost all of my younger friends when saw me for the first time thought I was of their age or even 2-3 years younger :)))

I think the only time I mind it is when I get petted on my head - that is such a pet peeve of mine. My favorite story is when I was 25 (I'm soon to be 46 now) - my then husband & I had shared a truck (we just had the 1 vehicle). I worked at a gas station & got off work around midnight - he took the truck to the light rail & road the light rail to work & I would walk to the station & pick up the truck after work. That morning, he told me that one of the tail lights was out. That night after I picked up the truck, I was pulled over by police officer - I thought for the tail light. He said, "You know that you aren't supposed to be driving your Mom & Dad's truck." Now, my parents had given us the truck - they had no use for it any longer, so naturally I was a little confused for a minute, but I soon realized why he talking to me like I was a child - I pulled out my driver's license (after I asked him if I could - I was scared - I had never been pulled over before. He turned about 10 shades of red and apologized profusely, he said that he thought that I was like 12 or 13 & had taken my parents truck out for a joy ride. LOL! My head fit between the dashboard & the steering wheel, so in the dark, I really must have looked young, but until I was 36, I would get charged as a child as young as 8 to 10 at restaurants & movies - if they asked I told them, but if they didn't ask, I figured it was there mistake. At movie theaters, I would even say for an adult, but they would still charge me for a child's ticket. LOL!

Haha! I love this topic... when I was in my 30's people mistook me for a teenager. It made me mad! Now that I'm in my 50's NOBODY thinks I'm younger! It's kind of an ego buster... when I tell someone my age, I am hoping they'll say REALLY? like they don't believe I am that old - sadly, that hardly happens. But the fun part is that they also think I'm cranky and don't mess with me!

Ya, I am sure looking younger will be great when I get older, but people automatically assume that I am young, dumb, and inexperienced... when I tell them I am 27 they look completely shocked.

My boss came to tell me happy birthday and asked how old I was (his exact statement was "So, are you finally 21 yet?") I have been working for him for 5 years!!! I would have been 16 when he hired me if that were the case!

It is very frusterating right now...

MCSNYDER1, you said it just right. With a few tiny changes in location, this story could be me.

When out to a bar, after an evening of bowling, I was the only one carded (I was 22) there were 3 others at the table under 19. Not so funny, no driver license and my other proof was a "miniature" of our marriage license, it wasn't accepted. Lucky one of the bartenders was a friend of my family. Can you fathom the situation?

Lucky my DH has a good sense of humour, at Dances men would come over to the table and ask his permission to dance with his daughter (me). DH is 3 and 10/12ths years older than I.

I was taking a sick girl to her room (school trip and I was a parent helper with the girls) when I was rudely yanked by my arm, pulled around and told to stop causing trouble in the elevator and to get out, as the adults new better. More people had come in after us and the alarm was sounding. When face to face with this person I'm not sure who was more embarrassed. "Others" got off.

I'm 65+ and not quite 5'2", and still get a kick out of someone hesitating to ask if I get the senior discount. Some places start seniors at 50-55yrs.

I think there are a lot of stories relating to these circumstances. Lol

Moongoddess and pumpkinphd, until you guys mentioned it, I had forgotten what it was like to be a young adult who hated looking like a kid! I'm sorry!
I do remember now what it felt like to be pregnant and my fingers had gotten so swollen that I couldn't wear my wedding ring. It was 1982. I looked like I was 10 and I got the most horrifying glares from people in our tiny little Baptist town. I was actually 25 and had been married 5 years!!

I also remember being a brand new teacher and being yelled at by other teachers to "get back to class"--again early 1980s--teachers yelled first, then asked questions back then.

And the time my father-in-law almost died and had emergency surgery. I wasn't allowed in the ICU until I proved that I was over 14. Oh, was I mad--- and hurt.

I hated looking young when I was young.

BUT NOW.....I'm on the other side of the rainbow. I am 53. I look very young compared to my friends of the same age (well, except for one--she has amazing genes and refuses to ever go in the sun!). Most people think I am in my 30s!! Now, it's a compliment to be mistaken for someone 20 years younger!

Oh, SweetandSassy. I love your SparkName! When I give my 3rd graders an assignment, I usually preface it with "This is going to be just like me---short and sweet". It doesn't take long for them to fill in the short and sweet part themselves!!

No matter how you look at it, folks, we can change our hair color, the color of our eyes with contacts, we can have plastic surgery to changes parts we don't like, but I don't know of a thing we can do about being under 5'3", so I figure I might as well embrace it!!!!

@Moongoddess: I've had similar things happen. In my mid-20s, I had someone ask me at a gas station if I was really old enough to drive.

Sometimes, it seems like I have to work harder to get people to take me seriously. They assume that because I look young, that I am not experienced or will be immature. When I taught a college class one quarter, the students thought I was the TA at first. Once I started teaching & they realized I knew what I was talking about, it was fine, but it felt harder to get their respect.

Even my current boss mentioned in my 1-year review that he initially thought I would take more training and time to be a "Senior" economist b/c I was perceived as young & green b/c of my looks/voice/stature.

I've considered letting my gray hairs show to make me look more distinguished, but decided the times I like looking young outnumber the times I could benefit from looking older.

I get it all the time. Sometimes it makes me feel good, others it makes me sooooo mad. Here are a couple examples.

I was buying some alchohol one day a few months back and was waiting in line at the party store, nothing else in my hands and the lady kept looking at me funny while she was waiting on the other customers. When she got to me she raised her eyebrow and asked if she could help me. She of course carded me when I told her what I wanted. Her eyes got really big and she started laughing...she said "and to think all I was thinking is I hope this girl isn't going to try to buy cigarettes cause I ain't falling for it" That was two weeks before I turned 30 and it made me feel great.

On the other hand when I was 27 and pregnant with my youngest son there was a lady that I was working with one day that started giving me a lecture on how kids these days are just going around getting knocked up and having all these babies out of wed lock....most not even knowing who the father is. I explained to her that I was 27, my oldest I had at 24, and I had been married to my husband since I was 23...and no I was not pregnant at the time. That irritated me because of the assumptions. (and I have friends that had children very young and are terrific parents)

Yes! Even my voice sounds young. A good friend of mine just recently referred to me as 'baby face.' Most people guess me to be 10-15 yrs younger.

I think being overweight can sometimes help you look a little younger by filling in wrinkles w/fatty deposits. I'm mentally preparing myself for looking slightly older when I lose the rest of the 50 lbs I'm lugging around.

Sidenote: I've noticed a lot of centurians are shorter in stature (or maybe they just shrunk LOL). I'm just saying . . . emoticon

I'm 76, and most people think I'm in my 60s. I have always looked younger than my age. I don't drink and I don't smoke. I live a clean life. Maybe that's why.

I've always had people mistake me for younger. I think its because I have a round-ish baby face & high voice, rather than my size. I still get people thinking I'm in my 20s, but I just turned 40.

Well now I'm in the hot seat! I didn't expect that!!!

I plead the 5th because I just visited you SparkPage and based on one of your teams, I think I have a good idea of your age!

BTW, your pics are all great! What fun you and your children have!!!!

I posted this question because I hear it a LOT lately! I am retiring (98% sure) at the end of this school year and people really, genuinely act like they can't believe I've taught for 30 years!!

I just thought that was a perk of being petite!

Hi everyone! I'm just curious....I have always been mistaken for someone much younger than I really am! I guess because I am petite?

When I WAS much younger, 20s and 30s, most people thought I was a teenager. Now that I am approaching mid 50s (!), people think I'm in my 30s!!!! I love that!(they must be blind though, 'cause I gotta lotta lines and wrinkles on this little face!!!)

So, I'm wondering......how old do people think you really are????? or is it just me?
