I do not know when... but sometime in the past few days my calories got dropped from 1340 to 1280. I found this pretty odd as usually it tells you to adjust when you are burning more calories than consuming. But I guess it was that I went under my goal weight by a #? I don't always change my goal weight, only when it forces me to so I can update my page.

5'3"
med-large frame, hourglass shape (WTH ratio: .68)
starting weight: 235
current weight: 165
goal weight: 135

calorie range: 1530-1880, rec. by SP, based on my current weight and activity level (I'm doing P90X right now, so the calorie requirements are higher). I tend to stay toward the low end of the range, but I also do some calorie cycling with high-cal and low-cal days.

I'm 5'3", small framed, and my goal weight was originally 125 lbs. To get to that point my standard calorie goals were between 1100 and 1400 a day. I think I was lucky that those goals just worked for me and I lost the weight really quickly. Now I'm trying to lose a few more pounds and I'm just eating instinctively. I'm not tracking my calories or anything, just eating small portions whenever I'm feeling hungry. I think my calorie range is about the same, maybe a little bit higher. I'm losing the weight slower than I was before but that's to be expected. :)

WOW, that's very interesting. I also figured that since I was short that I should stay in the 900-1100 calorie range. But now that I hear your stories, it looks like I really should follow SP's recommendations most of the time. I do want to try calorie cycling to see if that will work in losing my last 15 lbs. So maybe I'll go in the high 900's then go up to 1300, and go back down again, and so forth. I'm always so scared of going high in calories since I feel like I have to scramble just to find stuff to put in my mouth. I'm so used to eating about 1200 calories every day. So I'm going to have to get used to my high days if I were to cycle. May the force be with me....

Best of luck to everybody!!

I am 27, 5'1", med (curvy) frame, workout 3-6 times a week and stay in the 1100-1400 range. I try to stick to around 1200/day, but tend to stagger. My goal is to be in the 120s by October 19 (before my wedding).

At first I was sticking to 900-1100 calories and wasn't really losing weight. Once I increased my calories to the 1200-1300 range I started losing 2lbs a week! I figured since I am short I should have a lower range, but it looks like I was wrong!

Good luck everybody!

emoticon emoticon to the Team! I am a tad under 5' and started w/ 1240 being the calorie low end from SP. When I incorporated more exercise, it increased me to 1330 as my low end but I had a hard time getting there initially as I was so used to eating around 1240.

Usually I'm 1280-1300 and occasionally I get to 1450 or so, but this is usually eating out or beef meals. I did hit a plateau, this is when I was bumped up in calories, and when I finally started going above 1330 the weight started coming off again.

I have been maintaining since Oct '09. I did not increase calories to maintain, just held at current course.

Cubanjelly,

It sounds like you're calorie cycling when you say that one day you're at 900 calories and then the next, your intake skyrockets. So I guess this system should work! Thanks everyone! :)

I also found a great site for your daily caloric needs and how much you need to calorie cycle if you go to the link, "7 day calorie cycle zig-zag"

I've also noticed that my weight loss idles if I don't incorporate strength training. Good point, Miss Choc!

Wow, I finally feel tall! LOL I'm 5' 1 1/2" and right now I'm at 142, my goal is around 130 or so. When I started on Spark I kept my intake at their recommendation 1200-1500 and lost 15 lbs. Then I got stuck, hired a nutritionist (she's awesome) and she told me not to worry about calores - sometimes I'd only get 900 other days it was through the roof. Now I'm in mostly maintenance according to Spark and my calorie high is about 1700 - which is not hard to meet! LOL

Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll work it out in time - whatever is right for you.

PLEASE don't get too discouraged - look how far you've come!! You're doing a phenomenal job and you look fantastic!! emoticon

There are so many times when I get discouraged too. Other than a healthy diet, I also find that challenging your body and changing it up by taking as many different classes at the gym or doing HIIT really helps me. Also, strength training has helped me a lot. When I used to only focus on cardio, I saw a standstill on the scale and it just wasn't moving...I now do this 3x a week and see greater losses the day after.

I hope this helps a bit. Best of luck on your journey as well!

I think age and how big you were for most of your life plays a factor. I am 35, been big for 80% of my life. I want to get down to 120 but find it very hard to get away from 140; I have a medium frame. I did lose most of my weight by going below the recommended Sparks settings, currently 1200-1550. I exercised seven days a week for an hour. I, myself, am becoming pretty discouraged on reaching my goal weight, especially since I will have less time to devote to exercise (full-time school and full-time work starts in August). Many people say that I look smaller than 140 and I wonder if this is excess tissue that will need to be surgically removed that I see.

Good luck to you on your journey.

Thank you for your input ladies! :) WOW...with all that exercise and you're still maintaining on SP's caloric range, I better go even lower then. And calorie cycling sounds like a great idea. The only zig-zagging I've done is going high on weekends and then back down to a low calorie range starting Monday. I see greater losses after a day or 2 because of the transition. So, that sounds like a great idea - can't wait to try it! :)

You could go lower on occassion, but I think cycling the calories is the right way to go too. Also consider doing some high intensity interval training a couple few times in your workouts. That really works for me (130, 5ft 2in, pushing to 120)

Welcome to the team! I'm 5'1", small frame and my weight goal is 115 to 120. When I get there, I'll reassess and decide if I should lose more. When I was younger, ikept my weight between 105 and 110 (I'm 42 now)

As far as calories, I have found that staggering works best for me. If I stay in Spark's calorie range (even with heavy exercise), I just maintain. So I will do around 800 to 900 calories one day, 1100 the next, 1000 the next, then around 1400 and back down to around 800 to 900.

I bike a lot and run about 15 miles a week with two days of strength training.

I never feel tired or run down, and I sleep great. A lot of people who aren't small will say my calorie range is too low, but I eat a good balance and feel great.

I can't help, I do ww myself online. I track exercise here, and spark often but I use ww points tracking. I"m 5' 1", med frame, and I'm heading for 125. My doctor says I could go lower but I feel like right now that is good for me. If I ever hit it i'll be thrilled. Good luck to you.

I'm a newbie to this team and have been doing Weight Watchers as well as get some nutritional guidance from SP. I'm 30 y/o (turning 31 next week!), 4ft 11.5inches and with what I think is a small frame. I'm thinking of completely switching to SP for tracking but was wondering how many calories you all take in daily. My recommended calorie intake is 1200-1550 but I'm afraid that I won't lose any weight with 1200 calories every day since I've been eating less on WW. I tend to exercise 3-4x a week for about an hour by taking classes at the gym. Does anyone go lower than 1200? I know that this site doesn't recommend it, but was just curious. Also, how often do you workout? Does that help you decide your calorie intake?

Thanks in advance! :)
