Way to go KAYYVAUGHN. A wonderful adventure.
Such marvelous ideas are listed here.

If you have stretch bands, I'd like to suggest you take them along. Take almost no room and the variety of exercises with them are unlimited.

Check out the videos and work sheets, here on Spark, for some routines. A good workout, and you don't need a lot of space.

Have a great trip.

Of course - fresh fruit. Also, I'm a big fan of Fiber One Oat and Chocolate Chip Bars. Bring lots of water and remember not to leave plastic bottles in the car if it is standing in the sun. A loaf of bread, good peanut butter, and good jam. Maybe do a little research on the web so that you'll have a list of the better foods to get from various chain restaurants.

And have a great time.

We are driving to New England from Georgia. We will probably be on the road about 8-10 days. I need help on snack foods to eat while we are traveling. emoticon

Great news! How empowering for you. And you took care of yourself by not being crazy and power walking in extreme heat.

Thanks again everyone! I'm back and your tips were very helpful. I ate healthy amounts of healthy foods at alomost every meal (the nights we had restaurant vouchers were harder, but I did pretty well). I didn't get my 30 minutes of power-walking time in - it was just too hot, even early in the morning, but I did keep my body moving through activities each day such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, miniature golf, and of course, the general walking you have to do to get around at a large resort. And I didn't drink anything but water, and tons of it, the whole trip. It is do-able!

Thanks for the ideas, all! I believe most of the food will be buffet style, but there are a few restaurants there where you order from the menu. I will definitely print out some sheets to take with me!

Traveling is difficult while dieting. I print out nutrition sheets and fitness sheets from Sparkpages. Then I keep up with my eating and exercising. Walking is the only exercise I usually get, unless I'm at a family member's home. Then I help with housework. Being careful at a buffet is not hard. I usually just eat a spinach salad, a vegetable plate and a sugar free cookies. We always take minature chocolates. emoticon

Hi, there! I was gone for a week on vacation, and the following week on a business trip. It was harder on the business trip--I think. :)

1) Try to eat smaller meals and snack often. I brought my GoLean cereal with me and nuts in a large baggie (remember to portion out the nuts or snacks or bring another smaller baggie).
2) If you don't know your portions, you can do a "guessestimate", or better yet use smaller spoons to dish out your food. If it's buffet style, you can always go back later if you're still hungry.
3) I brought either 2 or 3 workout dvds (Turbo Jam) to workout in the morning. Not that I used all of them. I just wanted a variety. The hotels didn't have dvd players, but I had my laptop. (Yup, I'm a geek.) Someone also mentioned that they took the audio from their dvd and converted it to use on their iPod. Really cool if you know how to do this! :)
Create a workout playlist on your iPod and walk/exercise to that.
4) Walk everywhere! I had walked 20,000 steps on average (you can use a pedometer--cheap to measure) a day. If you're not on a resort, use public transportation, but always be aware of your surroundings. Keep to safe places and watch for people around you.
5) Don't try to finish everything on your plate, even though people will give you are hard time about it. I allowed myself a little dessert; I cut it in half or gave the other piece to one of my friends or family members.
6) Relax!!!! emoticon You are on vacation, right?

Hope that helps! It helped me these past two weeks. I think I only gained a pound while I was on vacation with my family, but when I was on my business trips, I had lost some weight. Go fig!

There seem to be two kinds of people - ones who tend to gain weight on vacation and those who tend to lose weight on vacation. I am of the latter type but have sometimes still managed to gain.

I'm guessing this resort is in a beautiful location. Take advantage and explore on foot. This would be in addition to your power walk which is a fabulous idea. Are there swimming or canoeing or other sports opportunities that you might want to take advantage of?

Food-wise, I find it more useful to watch my fats (and limit the processed sugar), but each of us knows our own body. I also find with buffets that general quantity is a problem. You may want to limit yourself in terms of plates or trips to the buffet. Savor the food. You don't have to cook it. You don't have to clean it up. All you need to do is enjoy it. If fast eating is a problem for you, this may be a good time to experiment with slowing down (putting your fork down in between bites, chewing more slowly, etc.)

Most of all have a great time and let us know how it goes.

I'm leaving for a week of all-inclusive resort relaxation in on Saturday - so I'll have no internet access, measuring cups, treadmill in front of the TV, etc. How have you successfully stuck to your plan while vacationing? All tips and tricks aappreciated. Here are some of the things I'm thinking to do so far:

(1) Drink only water (not too big a deal for me as I'm really not much of an alcohol drinker)
(2) Bring a notebook and write down everything I eat (with approximate amounts), and track my water intake too.
(3) Bring my i-pod and power walk at least 30 min. every day
(4) Choose the buffet items that aren't heavy on the carbs
