I was a 32D in high school, I know the looks you get and the "are you sure that's your size" questions, to which I quite simply said, that's how I have measured with you guys before and I had. I was also often told well, we need to measure again, and sometimes I'd do it again. When I went to 32DD I had the worst time, nothing store bought would fit. 34DD now and wishing I was 32C.

LOL - if you think trying to find a 34D is bad, try finding a 32D. You should see the looks on the salespeople's faces when I ask if they carry anything in that size - you'd think I had 3 heads (or maybe 3 boobs?). I've found good size selections at Nordstrom and Victoria's secret, but the VS bras tend to loose their support pretty quickly so I tend not to shop there.

Another thumbs up for Ann Taylor Loft. Also, Macy's and Lord & Taylor have nice petite sections.

Well, they aren't cheap, but when I'm my IDEAL size, I shop at Nordstrom. If you hit the sales, you can find some pretty good deals...

...But the reason I suggest them is that they do FREE alterations. So, no more "too long" pants!

(BTW: I'm not sure if Nordstrom is just a West Coast thing or not?)

Now that I'm closer to my goal, I just love shopping at the kids' section at tescos. My best jeans come from there along with shorts. For tops it's always has been M&S

I have a hard time finding clothes that work for my body since I am a little shorty. I am 5" 1'. I find that all the petite clothing stores make me look even shorter than i really am. I need to find a store that has petite tops. But yet again I have a tummy so they are to short... AAAA I hate clothes shopping.

Colleen! I think that is a great way to get jeans and kick around clothes. I have been known to go there and to the Salvation Army Family stores1 thanks for the reminder!

I've been shopping Goodwill. I know they are "used" but It's what I can afford. I have found some pretty good clothes there. Some even have the department store tags still on them.

I shop at Petite Sophisticate. they used to be with Casual Corner. I guess I'm lucky they went to a Outlet Center about 1 1/2 hr drive from my house. Their on line site is closed but you can still click on the store locator and a list pops up. I hope this helps. Oh by the way they carry 2 sizes in length. regular & short. I'm 5' even and the short fit me perfect!!:) Sorry for those who will still need altering.

I have always had luck w/ Kohls, have not found the elastic you did.. bummer.

For jeans though, that will be tough. I would go to Jr's for those.

I tend to find great classic petite looks with Ann Taylor, Talbots and Ralph Lauren. I also have some more fun pieces from INC and J Crew. I shop the outlets and the clearence racks right now as I'm still on a moving scale so you can find some good prices. I also know the best fit jeans I could find when I was a size 2-4 were Lucky and Polo Jeans Co..as they do theirs by inseam and they are well made (also in outlets!)

Lizzy,
I do agree some of the petites in Kohl's can be rather dowdy, but I am able to find jeans that I like. Lee's One True Fit low riders. And they aren't elastic waist.
I can find shorts and tops in the junior section.
I do think it depends on the Kohl's store you visit. Some in the more metropolitan areas are bigger than some of the more rural stores.

Wow! Thanks everyone! I went to Kohls and was REALLY diappointed in the petite section! 90% had elastic waist (dont' need that anymore!! LOL) and the section was soooo small. I tried JCP and they had a fair amount but the junior section was pretty young looking.
The other suggestions: I really liked!! I love Dress Barn but haven't been there in a long time. I don't mind spending good money on clothes right now since I have no intentions on getting bigger again! YEA!!
I will diffently look at each one of the stores you all suggested!I never really looked for size 4 anywhere in a long time. I really hate shopping but I will do my best to get into it! LOL
Thanks again!

Congrats on your goal. I am in the same boat as you. I am 46 and now fit into a size 4 again. I find that I can actually find nice junior clothes at Macy's or Target. Of course not everything there is age appropriate but you can find nice skinny jeans and tops.

I found some cute things at Ann Taylor Loft - not bad if on sale. My Kohl's has next to nothing in petite, and it's right next to the clearance section with always stuff thrown on the floor, etc., so I don't even like to go there to look. I also like Christopher & Banks. Not all stores carry petite, so you may have to check. I always head straight to the sale racks in back!

My mom has stock and I am not close enough to my goal to buy new clothes so congrats you get to do it for me. I found some really cute things in a 6 at kohls. Jeams are hard. There are some really cute dress clothes on the clearance rack but right not some of the sales items are better priced than the clearance. Lets talk bras. That is where I have problems. If you have something on top. Try to find a 34D. 34C yes, 36D yes 34D bostonstore clearanct rack and hanes has a bar that runs smaller. It is the non slip strap. ones
Congrats again Lynn

Congrats! I know how do you feel. I am a 4p right now and looking forward for a size 0p-2p which are not easy to find. Today I went to a store called Express and tried a size 0 pants, fit perfect but didn't buy it because it was way tooooo long for me.

If the word budget is in your vocabulary go to Dress Barn, NY and Company (my favorite store so far), Marshall, Burlington Coat Company. The other two stores you will absolutely find nice apparel and nice price JC Penney and Sears.

Lizzy big time congrats!. i was a size 4 when I was your age. It is a bit expensive, but I was always able to find something "mature" in Ann Taylor. I also shop Marshall's, and other dept stores (Kohl's, Sears, JC Penney) and just pick what I like in a size that feels good (big or small). Hope that helps!

I agree with Mary. Ann Taylor and Coldwater Creek have nice age appropriate clothing for our size. I've also purchased some petites online from Old Navy and Banana Republic, particularly cardigans.

Lizzy - Head out to Jefferson Point. Ann Taylor Loft always has some cute stuff. Try Coldwater Creek out there also. Steinmart is out that way. I have found some stuff there. Macy's and JCP also have some good stuff. I don't buy petite tops because I have the long waist and short legs so the tops end up hitting around the belly button and I hate that. Let me know what you find.

Yay, you!!! CONGRATS!! I find most of my clothes at Gap. I'm 34 and I find that the clothing looks young enough and fun, they also last a long time.

OK i am very close to my goal (YEA!!) and all my summer clothes where just falling off of me. So I decided to reward myself early with some shopping. I figured out I am down to a size 4! Of course Petite. So my new challenge is that I am a 36 year old who wears a size 4! Not easy to find clothes that small. Is there anyone else out there who wears that small and where do you buy clothes? I could find lots of clothes in the juniors dept but i prefer not to because a lot of those look really young but i am not above going through that department to see what they have. Suggestions??
