Glad to see people are talking in Virginia. I do not get on the team very often because it is very silent and not very many people are posting these days. I am really active on other teams but I do like to check in to see what my fellow Virginia people are doing. Hope all is well with you all and keep sparking!

Ginny,,,, had to laugh, I look back at my posts over the past 2 years and occasionally I would boast about "starting anew" -- and that only lasted a day or two. Finally in November when I saw my orthopedic doc for pain in my knee and he looked at me and said, "I don't do surgery on anyone with BMI over 40." After he left the room, I checked my BMI -- it was 50. So I asked about the Ideal Protein Diet that was advertised on the door... and I started it the next week. It is the most awesome diet I have ever been on.... lost about 25# so far. I have to admit, it's expensive but I didn't want to die yet!

I'm with you.... spout a good intention, even on the internet and then fall flat on my face or give up or whatever....

Found out that I can't eat "just one bite" -- so I had to go drastic.

Thinking of you in this new year!!

Hey !!! I'm all for a conversation :)
I've noticed that most of my Spark teams have gone quiet in the last 6 months :( (I'm just as guilty of it, btw)... so it was awesome to see somebody had posted something recently !!!!

I'm torn. I want to "start new" again on January 1st... but #1: I despise clichés and #2: I don't want to fail.............again.
And I know, I know... if I go into it thinking I'm going to fail, then I've already set my own destiny into motion, blah blah etc....
I'm usually the one spouting all the positive stuff to others, but never quite bought it myself.

Here's the bottom line: I MUST lose 100 pounds. My health depends on it.
I WANT to lose the weight.
However, I also know myself and I know that I am LAZY and SELFISH.
I can talk a big impressive game, but don't typically show the results.... :(

I need someone to kick my @$$ to be honest... LOL!
But admitting it out here on the internet seems to help appease some of my guilt.

So - IDK if this is actually contributing to the conversation you wanted to start - but here's where my mind is in the closing days of 2015.
I want to change. I know it is necessary.... but doing it is something totally different.

Rules for Living:
1. Never Panic. Stop. Breathe. Think.
2. Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.
3. The key to success lies in how you pick yourself up from failure.
4. Never regret anything. Remember there wasn't anything else that could have happened given who and where you were at that point in time.

Can I get a conversation going here??
Such a delightful day yesterday, sun out, warm breeze ,,,, and so dreary today, with a nippy breeze -.(I would just like to stay in bed all day, with a warm cup of tea and a good book). I'm thinking it's a sign of "things to come" considering I read that there is snow in Iowa today and everything always "moves east!'

Oh, well, just one week left of 2015,,, and looking forward to getting on the scale 1-1-16 and then setting and meeting goals in 2016. I "struggled" with food so much for about 2 years, that to FINALLY be on the downward path for almost 2 months, I feel like a winner FINALLY! thanks to Ideal Protein,,, what a diet!

Will be fun to hear from everyone returning to the site and so many people who make NY resolutions.... All the posts are cheering and challenging... I look forward to logging on every day.

Here's to a good week!

I went shopping this morning and spent a lot of time reading labels for sugar content. I found some wonderful Rice Works wild rice chips that are really good and have no sugar. I love any thing whole grain.
I also discovered a chip by Simply Sprouted which are multi grain corn tortilla chips...they include flax quinoa brown rice chia broccoli and radish. Hav'nt tried those yet.
7 days here among the Sparks and I'm down 2 1/2 lbs. more energy and feeling better.
Have a great day everyone!

Wow MOLLYMERMAID-2.....you are organized! I need to take a page out of your book and invest more time into preparing my grocery list. I have used the SparkPeople recipes for ideas on new and healthy meals, but I haven't reached your level of organization. Very impressive! emoticon

I'm about to get my grocery list ready to go out to shop tomorrow. Does anyone else besides me have a notebook of grocery lists and the prices written beside each item? It is very handy for me.

I keep my grocery store receipts and when I make up my grocery list I write the prices beside each item, then total it up before I go so I know if what I plan to spend fits into my budget. I use the household budget amount for groceries that the IRS has on their web site for a guideline on how much I want to spend of my limited budget.

I'd like to hear how other team members are planning their meals and what their favorite foods are.

I like the Spark People meal plans, but also I play around with the tracker by entering foods to see how they would work out on the pie chart. I like goat milk, walnuts, salmon, cottage cheese, homemade yogurt, frozen blueberries thawed, canned oysters, almonds, meats and fishes, citrus fruits, canned fruits in their own juice, V8 juice, root vegetables, real butter, cream, and cow milk.

If something is expensive I use small amounts in a meal. Same thing if it is something with a lot of fat...I use a small amount. Dried beans are something I use alot.

So this week I am back on track I have already lost one pound and I am working on number 2 for the week. I have been great with my eatting and exercise. I started not eating meals. Well actually I do eat one meal a day the rest of the day I snack so to speak. I have a piece of toast with jelly for breakfast, two hours later a piece of string cheese, two hours later a side salad, two hours later a greek yogurt and maybe another snack before having dinner with my family. I am never hungry because every couple hours I am having something. I am just making sure it is something healthy. Last nights dinner was beef and broccoli over no yolks noodles. My husband does not like white rice. Everyone loved it and I still stayed on the low end of my calorie range. I am hoping by next Tuesdays to be out of the 220's forever!

A huge nor'easter hit the mid Atlantic and Northeast today. My SIL in Louisa Co. told me they already had a foot of snow by 9:00 am this morning! Here in NJ we've got an additional foot of snow on top of what was already on the ground, so approx 24 inches of snow on unshoveled areas. No school today, and quite possibly none tomorrow. It was a pleasure sleeping in this morning!

Sorry Livedaily Am sure like us all please let this winter pass. But then again will be complaining this summer if it's hot.

Another storm: more snow, about 6", topped off with hail, sleet, and freezing rain. Many people have lost power, so I consider myself lucky that I still have it! More snow forecasted for Sunday night into Monday here.

Woke up this morning to snow, and it's still snowing here in Northern NJ. We'll get close to 8-10" today, more expected Wednesday and Sunday. Just for info, I am a teacher, and I enjoy a snow day as much as the next teacher, but we have to make up all of those days, so we'll most likely be in school until June 30th, and lose some of our Easter Break as well. When a school district closes, it has to take into consideration the commute of it's teachers. When state authorities are telling you to stay off the roads, it's always best to listen to them!

Don't you love how the schools close.. When I taught at a Juvenile correctional Center were considered essential so no snow days but if I went got comp time which was 2 for 1 vacation days

My daughter went to Richmond Public Schools (graduated in 1998) and while we just lived over the boarder from Chesterfield she was very very upset cause the schools were never closed.

My nephew who grew up in NH and whose kids still live there and now works in Dale City is amazed not only that the schools are closed for snow but also for cold.

You know Wednesday we may get snow maybe we should cancel school already..LOL

I agree I am glad to see July go but then again August is almost as hetic for me. With one more birthday and school starting again and of couse there is September the month I dislike the most... only cause it means a lot of time at work and away from my kids. Guess you gotta take the good (greatful to have a job) with the bad (working every weekend for september)

I have eaten terrible the past few weeks as well and am going to try hard to do better and get out or to the gym more. Decided that I can't take care of everyone else if I don't take care of me first.

Have a good Monday fellow Virginia peeps !!

I don't know about anyone else on here but I will not be sad to see July go! It is a really tough month for sticking to my nutritional goals as we have attended birthday parties for nephews 2 weekends and have our family reunion this weekend. These trips always involve staying with family over the weekend so meals consist of whatever is laid before you - I think I have gone over in calories and fat ever Saturday this month.

Hello fellow Virginia folks... does'nt seem to be much activity here lately.. Maybe everyone is busy working out?

So has anyone taken bee pollen? I started this yesterday after talking to a friend. Did some research and there does not seem to be too many bad reviews if you don't have an allergy. I am looking for more energy mostly. I have skipped work outs this week, back on track next week though.
Getting ready to go to Tech for orientation with my daughter tomorrow thru Friday. Anyone been to VA Tech.. looks to be a great school..

Hi MGARCIA1124

I too am starting again.. seems like its a never ending cycle that I hope to break. Motivation is hard for me even though I actually get 2-3 hours paid per week to work out I had stopped taking advantage of it lately. Trying to get back into the grove.

Good luck to you and welcome to the group

Hello everyone. New to this group and wanted to say a quick hello. This is not my first time on Spark but I am feeling much more commited this time around to get back a healthy lifestyle. I just recommited to excercize and healthier eating so I thought finding some good groups would help with that journey.

What do you all do to help yourselves stay motivated to work out regularly? This is my biggest struggle as I must work out early in the morning if I want any hope of getting in excercize.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

so far, I have discovered that my standards are higher than my skill level. I decided to hire someone who knows what he is doing to finish the work. Have been making my work outs but some slipups with diet. At least I am not giving up

Beautiful day today in downtown Fishers Hill. The only trouble is that I have to mow the darn lawn. Maybe wife and I will get to walk the new puppies..... emoticon

I would like to thank CLAIRESML & CELIAMINER, everyone who posted while I was gone!!!
It takes more than 1 person to make & keep alive a team! You can not have a leader without a follower!
When I took over this team the leader had not posted in 60/90 days, they wanted someone to lead team. I thought, sure I can help. They told me I was it. ME? Just a guy in Clifton Forge out of the whole state. 1st thing I did is find co-leaders to help, It does not have to be the 'leader' that has to do everything, every post helps.Someone looking may say 'well this team is alive".
I am looking at be coming a leader of another team that has "died"

Thank you for all you do!!!

Hey guys!!! I have some exciting news. Back in November I was in a video for my insurance company, Humana. I use their coaching program and they wanted me to tell my story. The video is now available for viewing. Here's the link:

I think Spring is finally coming out. The temps are a little warmer and some daffodils are blooming. our pear tree has blooms on it. Last year we had a good crop of pears and were able to can a lot of them. DH has started some seeds in the greenhouse. We're planting lots of green peppers, tomatoes, green beans adn some summer squash. OUr freezer stores are dwindling so we need to stock up this year. Last year our garden didn't' do much. Hopefully this year it will be better.

Here in Appomattox we got 5" of snow !! We were suppose to get 1-3. A little miss on that. Oh well. It looks like a winter wonderland in the woods. The pine tress are bowed down with the snow. It is pretty. the birds are out at the feeders and the Cardinals look pretty against the snow.

I just want the temps to warm up and the sun to shine!!! I would feel so much better!!! emoticon

Wow, 25th of march and it is a winter wonderland outside. I wish the county offices had closed and I could get out for a hike with my camera!
