My regular trash pickup is tomorrow, mostly kitty litter. New system won't start until next winter - IF it passes a probable referendum vote.

Where I live we have to haul our recycling to the former dump in town about 2-1/2 miles away. In our state there has been mandatory recycling since 1995. It is picked up curbside in the towns, cities and villages along with the garbage.

Yes...the town pays for it and all you have to do is throw everything together in a roll-out garbage bin and put curbside every other Tuesday morning!! I love it. I have hardly any trash anymore!! The garbage bin hasn't had to go out for over 2 months!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My town, Jackson, MI, has just [finally!] announced plans for city-wide trash collection that will include single-stream recycling for most things. Most people currently contract with one of the four major haulers. But many residents are upset that little private haulers with pick-up trucks with plywood sides will be forced out of business.

I have municipal curbside recycling for metals, glass, paper and some plastics. Wish I had it at work - you can't imagine how much paper schools consume!

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was about 12 or 13 years ago when they delivered large green bins to every house and we use them for compost, which gets picked up with our garbage every two weeks. We also have strict rules on recycling, what goes in which bags and our garbage has to be in clear bags to make sure that what we are putting in the garbage really is garbage. I have to say Valley Waste and Resource Management (or local garbage facility) has really been on top of things in our area.

The lack of good recycling service is just abysmal! I was paying $10 a month for weekly pickup. Now, I know that's not much; but every month or so, they'd miss a pickup. So i have cancelled it, and I'll have to take it to a collection point about a mile from my house, like I was doing before. :(

We recently got large green bins, that are picked up weekly in my area. My parents area they are picked up bi-weekly, but they also have recyclebank.

The Cincinnati area started bin pick up when I was little to the residentials inside city limits as part of our normal service, I was shocked when I moved into my first apartment and there was not a recycling pick up/ receptical per building, or for the complex. I ended up bagging up mine and taking it to my parents.

We have curbside recycling across the whole sity, and people use it. There have been problems in the past with people stealing the al cans recycling, but it seems to have stopped , thankfully. We also have a combined effort of two recycling facilities where they have set up large containers for the public to use free of charge. The containers are usually stuffed when we drop off ours, and I still see trucks emptying them daily!

TBH, I haven't really used my banked points. I have, however, found plenty of things I'd like to use my points on. They tailor the offers to your location, so I get lots of stuff for the Philadelphia area including some stores I'd like to check out and the occasional museum. The latter is typically a BOGO type deal so I need someone to go with to take advantage of it.

Not only do we have curbside recycling, there's an incentive program to encourage people to put stuff out. https://www.recyclebank.com/

We don't. They used to have paper drop-off at the school but people started using it for trash so they stopped.

My city has co -mingled recycling with a $2 a month discount on the curb service if you recycle at least twice a month. They accept paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic 1-7

One of the trash collection companies here has just added free recycling to their service. What's the situation in your locale?
