I just purchased a jump rope online (the kind we used when we were kids) - it should be here in a few days, and I am going to purchase the video as well --
I'm excited - I use to love to jump rope when I was a kid, and I am trying to spice up my workouts...

Hi my name's Kristy and I LOVE the RopeSport DVDs. I only have the basic one now - as I got it with the GoFit package at Target for about $20. I'm excited to find this team, as since last summer i've been preaching the benefits of this program. it's awesome that there's now a SparkTeam for it! HOORAY for RopeSport and good luck everyone!!! I can't wait to get back into the swing of this again!!

the extra weight is for real. the loose skin is for real. i am in charge now. i will become healthier!
i kept my ticker at the ORIGINAL starting weight from 08/2006. I have kept it down nearly 15 pounds, and that is SOMETHING to be proud of. Now, to make it to my goal and keep it THERE!
Can we have a thread for those of us who are going to be extremely happy as I jump for three minutes? Will it bother others if I post my three minutes of jumping while others are going perhaps ten times that amount?

Hello everyone!
My name is Holly and I just join the team. I just got The RopeSport workout DVD with Jump rope included in GoFit Ropesport package. I'm thinking about trying it in a bit, after I watch through the basic program DVD.
By the way, I've noticed that the program is using Beaded Rope in the workout, and mine is PVC one (called Speed Rope). Is there any difference in those when you try the program?
Well I'm really looking forward to starting this program!!

Hi everyone! My name is Roxanne. I live in BC, Canada. I am a mom and turning 30 in August. I vowed to be at my goal by my birthday (the 21st). Not too sure about that anymore but I'm not gonna stop trying. I don't have these videos but I have some other jump rope videos.

Thanks. I just bought a new rope, and am going to do the beginner video today for the first time after work! I've been jumping off and on, on my own, but I am very excited for the structured regimen - hopefully this provides the benefits that the introduction in the video brags about! We shall see...

Hi Cill - I don't see many posts from this team, very often. If you already have weak knees, I would be worried for you. Someone from RopeSport may disagree, but I consider this to be fairly high-impact activity.
To work on strengthening and toning your lower body I would consider something not so high-impact. How weak is your knee? If it's REALLY weak, I would consider swimming. If it's not that weak, but hasn't been tested too much, maybe try one of those elliptical trainers - they're like running in a treadmill, but have a lot less impact to the knees and other joints. Still a great work out, though.
While walking can be a lower intensity work out, it will still strengthen and tone your lower body, too, so don't discredit it. Push yourself to a pace that challenges you, to bump up the intensity and cardio benefits.
Hope this helps.

I just joined this team and I don't see a topic just for questions, but I have one. I want to start jumping for the lower body workout & toning, but I was told that my weight and a weak knee were not a good combination with jumping rope because of the jarring. Is this true? Should I wait until I lose more weight & strengthen my knee before beginning.
I have a non-weighted jump rope that I purchased in November when I first started my weight loss journey and really need to work on building strength and tone in my lower body.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Cill

Hi everyone!
I just got the jump rope and beginning DVD. I've been practicing all the jumps, but it's hard to learn some of the more complicated moves. Still, I am really enjoying the jumping! Going to try and incorporate it into my daily workouts if possible.

Thanks for the advice!
What time length should I aim for to start?
Also, how do you track this excercise? The ad for the DVD said that SparkPeople includes a way to track the cals burned when you use the DVD...

I don't have the DVD either - I jump on the spot and alternate how I place my hips - jumping with my hips, knees and toes facing forward, facing out, and facing in (in order to prevent injury you need to turn out and turn in from the hip, with knees over your 2nd toe). I also kick my butt (literally AND figuratively) by swinging my legs up behind me. I Jump imagining I am climbing huge stairs and lift my legs. And then I often swing my hips. I put in some really hard Techno music and just go nuts. I kick my legs out to the side and do a few crouching down, just to make my life more difficult...

SMOOON: I would wear shoes, ropes hurt. I am new to this whole thing and I guess as long as I am jumping and not tripping myself I am doing good :-)

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the group - and new to the jump rope thing all together!
I have a jump rope at home and I just purchased a RopeSport DVD.
Do any of you have beginner suggestions for me while I wait on the mail to bring my DVD?

Hi - does everybody wear their shoes when they jump? We jump in my tae kwon do class as a warm up, and we're barefoot in there... incentive to jump successfully is that it HURTS if you catch your toes with one of those plastic ropes!!
I find that bathroom breaks aren't as necessary if I kind of do the boxer-style jumping one foot to the other - I know the two footed rabbit hopping jump is probably more exercise, but then I have girl issues, too!!
What does everyone else think?

Hi drumchickie - I used to have that problem, and pelvic floor exercises (kegels) help. I also do Pilates, and find that helps with preventing the leaks when I bounce.

Hello, I am new to SP, but have been jumping rope for about two years. I read about the routine in the book Escape Your Weight by Jackowski. I jump as part of my elliptical/weights routine. I try to jump an average of twenty minutes a day. Although I have to split up my time for bathroom breaks. Anyother gals have this issue?

Hi! I'm very new to SP but am going to stick with it as I am seeing good results. I grew up paticipating in competitive jump rope, but got away from the sport as an adult. I'm using jump rope to incorporate more intense cardio into my routine. Also it wouldn't hurt to learn a few new rope tricks in the process, right

Hi, I like to call my rope the "poor man's treadmill" and it has been my means of keeping fit over winter months when the ground becomes too treacherous to run on. However, lately I have really been getting into it, and do it six days a week for either 30 minutes or fifteen minutes. I don't have a DVD, but would love to join. Does a jumping passion qualify me for this team?
I am also a big pilates/yoga fan, and lately have really gotten into some sensuality based work-outs - they actually surprisingly mimic pilates and yoga. I find combining the rope jumping with a stretching/toning workout helps to keep my body nice and supple.
I have 3 children - a four year old, and 19 month old twins. All boys. Keeping fit is how I keep sane.
I am happy that this team was featured. If anyone has any ropejumping tricks, please post. I don't have access to videos, but would love to incorporate new moves into my routine.
Sam.

Hello everyone. My sister recently introduced me to the world of jumping rope. In the past few weeks, I've lost several inches and really like being able to burn calories in a small amount of time.
I look forward to chatting with everyone.

Hi! I am fairly new to the jump roping - just purchased a video, and am ready to work it into my weekly cardio.
I am a tae kwon do fanatic, and we sometimes warm up with 3 sets of 3 minute intervals of jumping... each mis-jump warrants 5 push ups. Dang I need to get better at this!!!!
What impressed me is that since incorporating this into my cardio, just at class, my endurance in the sparring ring has notably improved. I figure there must be something to this.
Glad to join this team! Thanks!

Hi, I started SP seriously jan 8. I start my 13th week today. I started jumping because of winter. I usually run. It was very difficult at the beginning, but I now can do 2000 jumps in 30 minutes. I simply jump. I do not have fancy steps in my routine... yet!
