Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.

I'm still digesting this but I guess it wasn't what I was expecting. It is heart wrenching at times and painful to watch. If you are a fan of realistic movies... this may be one for you to check out.

Definitely a different side of Sigourney Weaver that I have seen. It was pretty good and I would recommend it if you are looking for a little bit of humor in a drama.

From netflix's streaming choices:

Craigslist Joe - a guy takes a month and lives off the kindness of Craigslist users. Very
good:) Restores your faith in humanity. Documentary

Vegucated - another documentary about becoming a vegan. Educational for sure.

Watched Super 8 last night. Seemed a bit over the top but kept me guessing and was different than I expected so that was good.

Also watched Morning Glory this week. I think I had seen it before but didn't remember the title. It was Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton. Not their best but worth streaming on Netflix emoticon

Free HBO weekend!
Wall Street Money Never Sleeps - Shia and Carey are adorable- Have you seen her guest episode of Dr Who? CREEPY! I know I'm raising my daughter right when she says "this guy playing Gordon, is that Andrew Shepherd?"

Hemingway&Gellhorn - I will be keeping her in mind when my daughter needs an interesting report/project topic. Makes me want to take another look at Hemingway. Didn't enjoy him 15years ago, but I feel like maybe now I'll "get it." Course I still believe he squandered half his life hanging around Picasso trying to nail his leftovers...if you don't mind me paraphrasing Julia Stiles.

I Know What You Did Last Summer - Man did Jenny Love look like crap in that movie. 90s teen angst grunge reared it's ugly head.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - ???

Joan Rivers Piece of Work - Wonderful! This woman is a powerhouse. Love her.

Ghost Writer - pretty good, my husband loves the end, it's exactly how he always says a movie should end.

The Sitter: Jonah Hill at his most inappropriate hilarious vulgar self.

Mr. Popper's Penguins: Adorable

New Year's Eve: Sadly I enjoyed this ridiculous excuse for a movie - Maybe just because of Seth Meyers though

Rubber: The premise of this movie is hysterical (a rubber tire uses psychokinesis to kill people and becomes obsessed with a brunette) - the execution is horrible - the director/writer wasted this hilarious opportunity to try to make a statement about the "randomness" of movies. No one cares that they are random, just that they are entertaining (see above NYE)

Rented a slew of movies again.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark: Don't be afraid of this movie....but still maybe the dark
One Day: Anne Hathaway is always so charming. Interestingly put together love story. It was predictable, but still good.
Hugo: Really beautiful movie. Not a lot of dialogue, but if you've seen the book you'll understand. My daughter (11) and I really enjoyed it. Wish we would've seen it in 3D.
In Time: Not bad. Justin Timberlake can do no wrong. Only complaint is two dramatic and important things happen in the first 20minutes that I just didn't feel like there was a strong enough emotional build up to.

The Conspirator is very interesting. You always think of times early in our history to be done for the good of the country and you don't really think of the corruption of politics. It's eye opening and very well acted. There's a book, Killing Lincoln that deals with the subject and is very interesting.

I have Sarah's Key and The Conspirator sitting here waiting to be watched.

Sarah's key is about the Holocaust (tear jerker)
The Conspirator is a true story about the trial of Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) who was accused of conspiring to assassinate Abraham Lincoln.

Will review both after watching.....

Another movie renting weekend!
Tower Heist: Eh, I do love me some Casey Affleck though
Puss In Boots: This was nominated for an Oscar? I think I laughed twice, maybe thrice.
Submarine: No real opinoin. It was what it was, nothing special. Kinda how I feel about skateland too.
Skateland: Thumbs down, but it did make me wanna go for a skate.

Well I've went on another renting frenzy.
Breaking Dawn: Kristen Stewart is the worst actress on the face of the earth. This movie is probably the best in the series so far. I know the subject matter is fluff and the books are crap, but once I start a series I have to finish it and she makes it painful to do so.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Fantastic! I don't know why, but I'm always surprised when old movies deal frankly with topics typically deemed modern.
Gilda: Rita Hayworth is insatiable
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: Jane and Marilyn, need I say more?
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Don't give apes brain function improving medication....and cover your mouth/nose when you cough/sneeze

Larry Crowne - Adorable
30 Minutes or Less - Effing Hilarious. I don't care what anybody says, that was funny.
50/50 - It should be getting more acclaim. It's funny, sad, and honest
Lincoln Lawyer- Surprisingly Good and Matthew Mcconaughey didn't dirty look from being ridiculously tan.
Beginners-Quietly Beautiful. Christopher Plummer was wonderful
Dream House - woulda been better if the previews hadn't given the plot away
Contagion- Pretty good and felt a little too real

Just saw "just go with it"
funny, of course but my theory is Adam Sandler just wanted to have an excuse to play around in Hawaii. I think he loved the setting so much since 50 first dates.

also, has anyone seen Hanna? what did you think?

Not the only one in the world. I didn't dislike it, but I don't think it's The Hangover for women. It's funny, but it tries to hard to also be sentimental. I also didn't care for Bad Teacher. Both these movies need to take a cue from The Sweetest Thing. Now that's funny female grossout comedy. I'm hoping to see Young Adult. It looks like it nailed everything Bad Teacher tried to, but couldn't.

I rented No Strings Attached (Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher) - it was a cute, romantic comedy, Just Go With It (Jen Aniston/Adam Sandler) - it too was a cute, romantic comedy, and How Do You Know (Reese Witherspoon/Owen Wilson) - it was okay...great cast, I just didn't particularly like it.

Watched Chaos Theory with Ryan Reynolds this weekend. It was a worthy watch but I don't know that I would invest in watching it over and over again. Way better than one of our other selections, Dark Side of the Moon, which was like a bad scifi movie from the 50's.

Also watched The Last Word last night with Winona Ryder. It was a surprisingly funny movie at parts. My DH rates it 4*'s for the last 60 seconds or so but it was a solid 3, glad we gave it a shot.

My Netflix movie for June 14 was "The Dinner Game" , a French movie from 1998. Netflix rates it 4 stars and IMDb gives it 7.7.
It a very funny movie about a group of professional men who hold a dinner every week. Each of them is required to bring an idiot. One of the men gets injured and can't attend. He is stuck with his idiot in his home for the whole night and all kinds of hilarious consequences follow. At the end of the movie, we realize who the real idiot is.

There was a remake of this movie called "Dinner For Smucks". It would be criminal to compare them.

Happy movie watching... emoticon

My movie for June 12 was " 'tis Pity She's A Whore". About an incestuous relationship that ends in tragedy. From 1971 and featuring a young Charlotte Rampling.
Very strange costume and set design for the time period. Netflix rated 3 stars, Imdb-6.5

I just saw the new "True Grit." Jeff Bridges was good, but still prefer John Wayne in the original. The remake also changes the end.

Watched Black Swan, which was a weird movie. Hereafter, which was very well done albeit slow. I believe the other one was The Sunshine in Rainbows (I think that was the title) which I cried through the whole thing. And It's Kind of a Funny Story, which was very good.

I've been on spring break this week & rented a few movies...Faster (with the Rock) - good action flick, Life As We Know It (Katherine Heigl/Josh Dumel) - cute romantic comedy, Crazy Heart (Jeff Bridges) - I can see how he won the Oscar last year, The Fighter (Marky Mark) - good drama, Due Date (the guy with the beard from The Hangover) - hilarious, plus a cute Frenchie, too, The Conviction (Hillary Swank) - good, true story drama.

New this week was "Red" which I liked.

Also, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest" is out as the 3rd in a trilogy. If you haven't seen them, I would "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" first, and "The Girl Who Played With Fire." second. They are well done Swedish movies dudded in English. However, they do contain brutal violence.

I have Verizon Fios at home but I prefer not to spend $5 a movie to watch. I have a Blockbuster movie pass that lets me rent 3 movies at unlimited times. A lot of the Blockbuster stores have closed, so if they go out of business, I'm thinking Netflix would be the next step.

Not a dumb question. You do need an internet hook up, I have a small wireless network set up @ home and use the wireless router. Are you thinking of using a gaming console or a different device?

I'm probably a bit late with this reply but if you're trying to view movies through Netflix's instant watch you have several options. A lot of Blu-Ray players will stream Netflix to your TV. Additionally, you can now set up gaming consoles disc-free to stream netflix. I personally stream through my Xbox360 & Nintendo WII.

Hope this was helpful.

Kickass was pretty good. I was not expecting it to be intense in some scenes especially the little girl (Hit Girl- aka Chloe Moretz) doing some hardcore fighting. If her character was too soft then I don't think the movie would have been successful.

Uh.. that was Archangel Michael that was protecting the unborn child in Legion... not Lucifer. Just thought I'd clear that up. As they say in the movie and is well known by people of many religious traditions, Michael is accepted in lore as being the special patron of Adam. Supposedly he was the first angel in all of the heavens to bow down before humanity. Michael then kept an eye on the first family, remaining vigilant even after the fall of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. You can read much about Michael in the Bible from his battles with Satan in the battles in heaven where he defeated Satan to the battles to come in Revelations where he will rise again to battle the Antichrist. Michael is nothing short of a warrior and hero and was portrayed as such in Legion.

I thought the poignant part was where Michael returns to confront Gabriel after he's restored to full Angelic form and tells him "You gave him what He wanted. I gave Him what he needed." I guess you have to look into the deeper meanings to appreciate the film.

Sherlock Holmes was fantastic.

Legion was good but weird. So let me get this straight, God and Gabriel are wiping out mankind because God is mad. Lucifer thinks mankind is worth saving and is protecting an unborn child, the promise of man's future.

First, God is Love, Jesus- God in human form is the baby sent as redemption for man, and Lucifer is the adversary of it all.

Got Legion yesterday and it was strange but, all in all, I liked it for the fantastic job they did on the effects.

We also watched Tarry Fator: Live From Las Vegas because my kid is soooo into ventriloquist acts now that he has a muppet of his own to practice with and it was absolutely HILARIOUS!! If you've not seen this show yet you absolutely have to rent it. This man is so very talented and so very funny. It's worth the time for certain.
