We saw Maleficent last night. I thought it was a great movie, although predictable. Anyone else see this one?

I saw "Moms Night Out" this past weekend. It was a decent movie. There was some really funny moments in it - all clean cut and the ending wasa Christian light moral. Country star Trace Atkins has a role in it.

Hubby and I started watching Season 2 of House of Cards with Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. It is a mini-series only found on Netflix. It is really good!

I watched an older movie yesterday called "Before and After" with Liam Neeson, Meryl Streep and Edward Furlong.... It was on ShowTime and it was pretty good. It was a drama about a teenaged Furlong who accidentally killed his girlfriend but he panicked and fled.

I loved the acting!

Recently watched The Butler and I liked it. I thought it was well done. Forrest Whitaker is one of my favorite actors and as he always does, he played his part without flaw!

I saw "Reasonable Doubt" this past weekend. It started off well and had a good premise. But by the end I wished it had been more. Parts weren't logical and I left like some stuff were missing. Strong start, weak finish.

I tried to watch the first Anchorman movie and had to shut it off as it was just too stupid! I will not see this one.

I saw today Saving Mr. Banks with Mr. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Emma is very good playing P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. My only criticism is the constant flashbacks, but other than that, I found it quite entertaining and at times very tender. You could hear audience members weeping. Applause at the end of the movie and actual taped conversations of the meetings of P.L. Travers and staff at Walt Disney Studios.

It's got some redeeming values. I felt that they ended it right. You'll probably enjoy it. Can't say it enough, though, if you don't see The Intouchables, you've missed something special. It's rated R for language and drug use. Very good movie.

Just joined the MOVIE lovers team. Definitely a team I belong to!
I did watch a few movies over the holidays. Not all new, but still:
- Jobs (dvd) - Definitely worth watching.
- Drinking Buddies (dvd) - If you like quirky/indy love stories, you'll probably like this.
- First Hobbit movie (dvd) - enjoyed it, but wish they'd stick closer to the original book.
- Second Hobbit movie (screen) - Ditto
- American Hustle (screen) - I felt it took a LONG time to gain any traction, but once it did, great finish! Loved it.
- The Way, Way Back (dvd) - Loved this movie. Basically a heartwarming coming of age story. Well done. Highly recommend.
- The Intouchables (dvd, French, Subtitled) - I don't know French, but that didn't matter. This movie is worth reading the subtitles. This is one of my top 10 of all time movies. If you see no other foreign film, in your life, please take the time to see this one.
Happy New Year everyone!
Karl

Hi Everyone!
Did anyone see any movies over the holidays?
I saw the new Hobbit movie. Really liked it but was frustrated with the way they ended it.
I also saw Medea's christmas. It's a much better blending of comedy and drama than previosu Tyler Perry movies.

Thanks for the review.

The last Harry Potter I saw in 3D and that didn't work for me. I think because the coloring was too dark to make the 3D pop.

I saw gravity (Imax 3D) I was expecting soooo much more! emoticon
It has not a story, the special effects are good , yes, and the only purpose of the film is: give you a hint about how one feels out there but the action is not very far from earth so no spectaculars effects (like nebulose/storms/meteor showers etc) just a passing spacial junk and the continuous spinning (sometimes I felt dizzy)...
I give it a 6

I saw "Rush" and really liked it. I was interested in the two drivers so I did some reading. Was disappointed to discover that the film gave soem really inaccurate impression of both of the drivers. And the ending really wasn't what happened in real life. Guess I excepted a little more accuracy from Ron Howard.

We saw The Heat today and it was great! I haven't seen a comedy that good since The Hangover. It's opening weekend and the theatre was packed. You should have heard the constant roar of laughter from everyone in the audience throughout the entire film. I highly recommend! Warning: If cursing bothers you, then you will not want to watch this. TONS of cursing.

We also watched Monster's University. Meh. I'm not that big on animation, but I wanted to see this b/c my DH use to work at The Magic Kingdom at Disney World and one of the attractions he worked was Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor. I use to go with him to work all the time and I missed my monsters. I watched about 20 minutes of it and fell asleep. Didn't wake up until the last 5 minutes.

Loved World War Z! We saw it last weekend (opening weekend) and it was PACKED! Unfortunately, we had to sit only 3 rows from the screen. I want to see it again when I can see the screen more clearly. Things blurred out when moving quickly.

Today we're off to the theatre again. I'll report back later. :D

Man of steel... lacks of the simple charm of the original comic and the gentle, innocent way of Superman crime fighting but still the film manages to entertain with some good acting moments. good visual and sound effects and lots of action (sometimes to much).
All in all, the movie is worth seeing. It scores a seven.
And OMG Henry Cavill is soooo handsome! :)

I saw Iron Man 3 and it was good. Robert downey Jr really brings some enmotional depth to this character.
Saw Scary Movie 5 (?) a few weeks back. HORRIBLE movie! Defintely needed the Wayans Bros comedic touch. But they weren't involve with this one.

I love the Bourne movies & the new one was pretty good. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, though. It didn't seem to have as much action in it as the others.

Avengers was really good. I loved that movie & thought about seeing it again since it's still in the theatres. I will probably buy that one.

Has anyone seen Ice Age or ParaNorman? I want to take my little one to the movies this weekend, but wasn't sure which one to see. We've already seen the new Diary of a Whimpy Kid, which was cute.

TOTALLY agree with prior Dark Shadows remark!
If you saw the trailers for this movie....you essentially saw the whole thing! All the humorous moments were shown on the pre-views. If you are really hurting for something to RENT...get it.

Made the mistake of going to Prometheus this weekend... I expected more form Ridley Scott. Felt as if they couldn't decide if it was a re-boot to the universe, or a pre-quill tie in. SO it had aspects of both, neither of which were strong enough (or consistent enough) to hold the film's focus.

Now all that being said, it was still a fun romp. A couple of unexpected twists (and some overly expected ones too.) with slow building suspense that was well done, if you don't drop out of the suspension of disbelief...(unfortuatly there are several jarring points that try to wrench your disbelief away...)

My recommendation would be either don't watch the series (Alien series) beforehand, and enjoy it as a matinee (or wait for video.)

Oh My Avengers!

Have to say I was not very excited about this at first cause Thor and Captain America were such letdowns, but the more I thought about Joss Whedon directing/writing I knew I had to see it. The man's a genius! Come on, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog! I was not disappointed. It was cheeky, but not in a George Clooney Batman sort a way, more in the vein of the first Iron Man. The cast was awesome. Scarlett Johansson was great. She was sexy without wearing stilettos or a revealing jumpsuit. Cobie Smulders was underused, but held her own. I think these ladies along with Jennifer Lawerence may be making ground for female led action movies - Joss may just get that Wonder Woman movie yet. My favorite character though, is Bruce Banner; ok I have a crush on Mark Ruffalo. I can't even describe how sexy he is. If you don't get it after seeing it, I can't explain it. He's just a phenomenal actor and damned sexy even when he's shredding into the Incredible Hulk. Alright, I think you get it. I love this movie and it totally jumpstarted my anticipation for the other action movies of the summer.

I'm afraid Christian Bale and Andrew Garfield will have nothing on the Incredible Mark Ruffalo though emoticon

Rented The Muppets and Young Adult this weekend.

The Muppets is AWESOME! I loved it! Oh, Kermie! xoxoxo

Young Adult was fun. It was really dark, but it had some hilariously inappropriate realistic moments that just slayed me. Charlize Theron was way better than her trying to hard for laughs counterpart in Bad Teacher.

Rely on form to bring about victory over the multitude. And then the multitude cannot understand. The elite all know the form by which I am victorious, But no one knows how I determine victory. Do not repeat the means of victory. But respond to the form from the inexhaustible.

Kirk Cameron has made a new movie called "Monumental"... It is a documentary about our country and its founders. It is only showing in limited theaters but you can go on the Monumental website and demand that it be shown in your hometown theater. All you need is 500 votes! So far 408 of us have demanded it come to St. Augustine so we are so close!

Vote today!
