We have started learning the tango, the waltz and the swing. So far so good. My husband is a musician but not much of a dancer and I danced for years but can't play an instrument so it's interesting. Lol. We are taking it at Dancing for Desserts in Walnut Grove. Beginner classes are Tuesday or Thursdays @ 6:30. Still haven't gone snowshoeing yet but there hasn't been much snow so the hubby is waiting for a good dump. Starting to lose interest now.

I would love to do salsa and I looked up where you are going but it's a little late in the night for me. Will be looking to take it somewhere though. My Latino hips could use some shaking. (I actually have no Latino blood in me).

We live about 5 minutes from the hall... so it makes it easy!

Where do you guys do ballroom? That might have to be our next venture after we master salsa.

I heard Seymour is good for snowshoeing. I'm hoping that I get a chance to try this year.

And yes heather, I live in Cloverdale and work in surrey.

I love to dance (took jazz, tap and ballet for 16 years). But can't go full force anymore due to a bum knee. The hubby wants to spin me around the floor though so ballroom it is. Would live to do salsa though (I love anything Latin related. Lol). Where are you taking it?

Ballroom dancing would be fun.. that might be our next venture... emoticon

We are taking the beginners class for salsa again and totally looking forward to it. Trying to get our steps comfortable and feeling like second nature.

We went snowshoeing up at Seymour last weekend for the first time and had a blast, although there was not enough snow in a lot of places so we had to take our snowshoes off. We liked it so much that we are definitely going to get a few sets of our own for next year.

Salsa dancing has been a blast... this week coming will be our fourth class and we are ready to sign up for it again!

On Saturday we are going snowshoeing provided there is snow on the mountain and although this isn't new to me, I haven't done it in YEARS so Im counting it as something new...

Anyone else doing anything new this year yet?

I tried Zumba Gold (I'm a senior) and loved it! Now I go to regular Zumba classes, other aerobics classes as well, and I'll try a kick-boxing class in the New Year. Hooked on exercise!

I tried a kickboxing class in september - I really enjoyed it and what a workout! I looked into joining a class but it was a set schedule and i knew i'd miss a few classes so it wasn't worth forking out the money when i wouldn't get the full session out of it and they weren't flexible in letting me make up the classes i miss :(

The other thing I recently tried was archery - in september too! That was really neat and I plan to go do that again!

I did a 5 km run/walk challenge this summer to keep me motivated. First time I have ever run in my entire life!!!
Also did a hike I had been invited to participate in before but had graciously declined knowing I would hold up the group and more than likely not make it to the top. Did it with ease this summer. Oh, it was hard work but I kept up with the group and loved the challenge.
Wouldn't have dared dream either a year ago.

I went white water rafting yesterday on a level 2 river.... it was pretty tame but really fun for a first time trip! I would do it again and then maybe upgrade to a lever 3 or 4 river. IT WAS SO FUN!

I did something I've never done before!

Well, the biking Iv'e done but not much. What I did new was go up to the old Kettle Valley Railway where the kelowna forest fire burned out a big section of tracks but they've been repaired now.

It was my 30th anniversary and my hubby and I biked 22 km from Myra Canyon station to Ruth station, over about 12 trestle bridges and through 2 tunnels. It was still chilly up there and the path was not always clear (rocks, water, trees) but it was an adventure. And my butt is REALLY sore from the bike seat - how do people do it? I feel like I have major bruises down there.

It was a good day and great experience. Can cross that off my bucket list now. And I"d recommend it to everyone who is in or near Kelowna - you can walk or bike, but try for a weekday or off season. It would be annoying with lots of people in the way.

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training. This simply means working short bouts of high intensity cardio into your strength training routine. These intervals can range from 20 sec up to 2 minutes. HIIT training allows you to burn more calories during your workout and even hours after you’ve left the gym. Next, combination lifts or (combos). I am enjoying adding something new into my fitness routine: Jillian Michaels Shred with Weights. I love it! It's a great all over workout with a kettlebell and I really feel alive and energized and sweaty and tired in a good way when I have done this half hour work out!

I did pull-ups with the trainer for the first time in probably 30 years. With mass amounts of help and a bungee cord I actually accomplished 3 sets. Couldn't lift my arms for 5 days though. lol. You ladies are giving me lots of ideas to step out of my comfort level. Thinking the Wild Play might be great on the next nice day!

Normally I'd go to the gym this morning, but I skipped it, as I'm joining my DH at KUNG FU tonight, which I've never tried before.

Hahaha!! That's awesome...i'll try to picture myself as Richard Simmons the next time i'm teaching! I'm so glad that NED333 liked her zumba class :) It can be a really exhausting cardio and if you've been doing one kind for a long time (like I was with step) you need a change.
As for WIld Play they have two course. I believe the kid one is only 10-20 feet up and the adult course can get insanely high. I recommend going when you have tons of energy to pull yourself through it. But it's so beautiful up in the trees and all the fresh air...I hope to do it again soon.

Hey DHunter, I SAW that WIld play in Maple Ridge, a bunch of kids were doing the course. Its on the road on the way up to Golden Ears!
Gonna have to give that a go I think!
I have tried Zumba but I can't get over the feeling that Im in an old time Richard Simmons video... LOL I don't think it's my thing....

on a smaller scale then climbing up trees & zip-lining how about zumba for something new? I've been teaching zumba classes in Ladner, Tsawwassen & Steveston this summer and anyone that feels like coming out and giving it a try I'd love it! It may just be the ticket to a new workout option that boosts your cardio in a way you haven't tried before :)

i was on the island recently and i did the Wild Play obstacle course in Nanaimo. I hear there is one here but in Maple Ridge. I highly recommend it. It was a crazy workout...keeping yourlsef from falling out of the trees! I felt like i'd done a hundred chin-ups by the end of the course. Definitely one to look up!

Ok... I did two something news in August! I went horseback riding which was ok... and I went tubing behind a speed boat.... and that was FUN! I have never done that EVER in my whole life and it was definitely a work out having to hold on!

Anyone else do something new in August?

Wow, SASSYSUSAN60, you have had quite a year! Good for you for trying all those wild and cazy things! What is a Salsa Cruise?
I don't think I've tried anything new lately, well, besides joining a web site in order to help me lose weight. That in itself is pretty wild and crazy for me!

I turned 50 last year and had a bucket list of things I wanted to accomplish in my 50th year. It's been a great year! I went zip lining, sky diving and got my motorcycle license, to name a few. Adrenaline junky? Maybe, lol. This Saturday a few of us are doing the Salsa cruise. Gonna burn a few calories dancing all night. Anyone here been on it?

well i did the gross grind for my bday. good god never pushed myself that hard in my life. my lungs still hurt lol
also went and did monkido (the obstacle course threw the trees) at bungee zone this month. so fun and a good work out

Ok... who is ready?

By the end of this month everyone should Try Something New

You may have always wanted to try a new sport, but now in adulthood, you feel that it is too late. WELL IT IS NOT!

Whether it is dancing, soccer, or co-ed softball, there is something out there to fit your interests.

Step out of your comfort zone and research the programs offered by your parks and recreation department. Look for beginner's classes at your local junior college. Pick up a group exercise schedule at your fitness center and try a new class.


Once you have come post about it!
