Oh gosh... you had to drink the radioactiv eiodine. I have heard that you will most likely lose thryoid function becaus eof that.
I am going next week for a heavy metals toxicity test.We are trying to figure out why I am so resistant to the thyroid medication.
If I have a high level of metals we will start the detoxéchelating process. On the UP side, it MAY mean that my hypothyroidism is not permanent...
We`ll see.

Hey Jordan, you just described an average dinner for me, minus the quinoa :)

I have tried making cilantro juice (challenging), because I read that it helps remove heavy metals from the body, I mixed it with celery, apple and carrot, was actually quite tasty. I only juice once in a while.

I have been interested in cleansing my body for many years, some times more than others, but after my cancer diagnosis, I became ultra interested. All the medications are seriously toxic, but had to take them. I am coming off a follow-up restaging right now, OMG! It is really rough, with the meds making me sick, then the meds to fix that, then the radioactive iodine (thats what they are so scared of in Japan right now R-131, they give it to me intentionally), it take a while to get that nastiness out, I am drinking so much water, with lemon, plus doing bran, just mixed in water to scrub out my innards...LOL I really feel compassion for those folks who have to take chemo, bless their hearts! Just the wimpy version of radiation that I had kicked my butt.

The pot of gold is that I got a clean scan!

I'm a firm believer in cleansing but do not agree with the master cleanse. AT ALL. I do not care what people say but you are starving your body and depriving it of nutrients.

A mild 2-3 day juice cleanse to start followed by a 7 day organic diet that is wheat, dairy and sugar free will do wonders. Absolutely no processed food.

I ask you this: Would you rather drink lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper for dinner or enjoy steamed broccoli, quinoa and a small piece of skinless organic chicken?

Edited to add: I've only recently gained weight when I went off clean eating but my BFF and I have been cleansing for almost 10 years. It's about restarting your system, not about dropping weight.

Fit, I was referring to the Master Cleanse, it is not a good thing, and is widely touted as a weight loss tool, mostly by Hollywood types. Laxative city.

No. I don't think it is meant to be a false weight loss. Some weight MAY be lost... but I don't think that is the intention of a PROPER cleanse.
Toxins get impacted in our digestive tract and digestive organs. Cleansing is a way to remove those toxins. Preventative medicine aginst cancer and other disease. These toxins also keep your digest tract from properly taking in the nutrients from your food.
To cleanse is a personal thing. No one is saying we should ALL be cleansing, but it is an option for some of us.
Like I said, I did a cleanse when I had to give up gluten. Gluten can do rotten things to someone gut who is not supposed to be eating it...

I cannot run to the bathrom all day, my job requires me to, well to do my job...LOL I don't get paid to sit on the potty all day. Not to mention, all that 'going' produces a false weight loss, drink a few glasses of water and voila! you find the weight you lost. Eating clean is the most sensible way to 'cleanse', and it works without punishing your body. I do drink a ton of water to help keep my innards clean.

I have head of going on a vegetable only 'fast', as a cleanse, no meat, dairy, fruit, fats (sounds lovely..huh?) Heard about it in the chiroprators office once, they did that seven days, then added lean meat seven day, then added fruit, seven days, was a 21 day thing. At least there was food involved.

I would be willing to do at least a few days of the Master Cleanse if it didn't involve using the laxative tea and doing the salt water flushes. I tried it once, and had to run to the bathroom all day!

None that I could personally recommend, but if you Google 'cleanse detox juice' several links to many recipies come up, most have the similar ingredients. Some have outrageous claims :)

Oooh yeah, celery is really good for reducing water retetion also, helps lower blood pressure, cucumber also. I have a juicer also, nothing fancy, a Jack Lalaine one, it does the trick. I have made some seriously weird juices, put cilantro through it. I do not reccomend beet juice..LOL unless it was just a tiny, tiny bit of it. I usually add apple to anything, to improve the taste.

Well, I have a juicer... I would juice carrots and add a bit of apple. I have a BIG JUICING book with all kinds of recipes. Different fruit and veggies can be good for different things. Like celery is good for detoxing, ginger aids digestion and helps circulation, pomegranate is an antioxidant, pineapple is good for digestion and is also anti-inflammatory... etc.

I have never done a cleanse but would be interested in doing one. Nothing too drastic, maybe just 24 hours. The liquid cleanse that I think Fit_Artist did sounds interesting. You just drink ANY fruit and veggie juices for 1 day or is it only what you can puree at home on your own?

Thanks! I will try it that way the next time, and maybe I can go longer than a few days. I wasn't hungry and didn't mind the lemon drink, but I just couldn't deal with having to run to the bathroom all the time and having my insides gurgling all day.

Has anyone here tried doing the Master Cleanse? I tried it for a few days, but the laxative tea and salt water flushes were a bit much. Has anyone tried it without doing that part, and just drinking the lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper mix?

I was not trying to do this for weight loss -- just to clean out my system a bit, and I did feel better after a few days of doing it.

Thanks!

Fitartist - that's interesting about bloating. I feel like I'm perpetually bloated; it's awful. But I love my bagel in the morning (I'm weak). I wonder if perhaps eating just that 1 "bad" carb per day will help.

Currently, I have to have bread or pasta with every meal.

Oh, and the sweets - that's another story. Can't get through the day without them. I suppose if I wasn't at work, I would feel less stressed and more apt to eat clean.

I have cleansed before. I have tried a 7 day cleanser from GNC, it worked well; however, after swallowing so many pills a day it gets annoying. The other cleanser I tried was the fruit and vegetable (celebrity fit club) by Dr. Ian. I like that one more because there are no pills involved and it all natural (7-9 days). It also tell you step by step how/when to cycle the lean meat back into your diet. I thought it was pretty good.

Caladriana - I would love to have a copy of clean eating cleanse you put yourself on for a week. I too have never done a liquid cleanse. I was going to follow the Whole Living lifestyle change, but they start on a liquid cleanse and I just can't get myself to do that. I have done a clean eating cleanse - in fact it was the South Beach diet. It truly impressed me how good I felt after a week of totally clean foods - how sweet the strawberries tasted when I re-introduced them to my diet. I am all for the clean eating cleanse!

Ive actually gone to a detox place to do a 10 day organic cleanse and they work right through from bowels to blood. I felt yucky at first lots of headaches and very tired but by the end of it i had more energy and less cravings. I would do it again but it was expensive. We did wheat grass shots, and all raw organic food and different herbal cleansers/drinks all made right there fresh.

There is another place i am interested in going to, in Ontario called Grail Springs and they have several different packages but i would love one day if i could ever afford it to go on the 21 day cleanse.

Another cleanse i used to do before i really got into eating clean was sort of like a clean eating detox to prepare for clean eating for one week. Eliminate all dairy, sugar, artificial sweeteners, red meat, and several other things, and by the end i would be free from cravings and able to get back on track. My nutritionalist gave it to me, if anyone is interested i can post it with more details.

Right now i have a slightly toxic liver from all medicine i have to take from my health issues. I have a liver detox kit ive been wanting to do but with all my health issues right now im worried that if i take it, it will put my body into over load and stop the healing process of some issues occurring so im waiting on it and hoping with eating clean my liver will heal itself.

I think cleansing is good once in awhile and i will continue to do it, especially when i hit a plateau.

Many Blessings
Caladriana

I have no desire to do a cleanse, but I might consider doing a one-day juice fast just to try it if I ever get another juicer. It's definitely not a priority for me, though.

Some people don't believe in cleansing or detoxifying. The body IS equipped to remove a certain amount of toxins, but unfortunatley we live in a time of TOXIC OVERLOAD. So, I always feel that it is a good idea to do some type of cleansing. It doesn't have to be a three week juice fast or anything...
Maybe a 1 day juice fast... or take in some EXTRA fibre.... lots of ways to do a mild cleansing...

Here's a great article.

Do you cleanse? If so, how do you do it? How often?

I have cleansed... I have taken a cleansing supplement and BOY! Did I feel CLEAN when I was done. It was basically a shot of fibre in the evening... for 5 days straight. I did this when I stopped eating gluten. I had such a BLOAT going on and the cleanse really did help. That was 2 months ago...
I think I will do a one day juice fast before summer. Just a day where I drink fresh fruit/veggie juices. Nothing to RADICAL. I've heard that doing this once a month can be benefiical... That it becomes easier and easier to do... it's supposed more difficult the more toxins you have in your body.

This is the cleanse supplement I took, but I'll bet that metamucil would do the same thing...
