If I eat too much sugar, I feel congested, bloated, and basically get night sweats. The next day, I wake up simultaneously dehydrated and bloated, with a stuffy nose and sore throat. It's like being hung over with a cold. It's definitely nasty.

Never fails. Restaraunt food makes me PUFFY the next day from all the sodium. My rings get tight and I can actually see puffy circles under my eyes. Also, makes me feel like I have a hangover. Without the BOOZE, what's the point? lol
about a year ago I decided to splurge and have some taco bell. OMG talk about SALT! Haven't wanted fast food since. Seems like after eating clean it's never like we remembered it. I only like veggie pizza, thin crust, no cheese and lots of garlic. I make my own.

Yeah. The saltiness is always something that gets me too. And there is always that "processed" taste. Reminds me of those yucky cheese slices (never did like those). We also had take-out pizza. On Halloween actually. Just cause we were so busy. I had "tummy problems" (to put it mildly) later that evening and into the next day. Not worth it. But it totally reminds me how far we've come. Our bodies are rejecting the crap that it is no longer used to.
Thanks, I do feel like it was a victory. I was curious how my body would respond to it, but I never imagined it would be that kind of response.
I actually had a tough time eating clean at first, but I read some stuff about cutting out grains so I did that as well. Cutting out grains really helped a lot...the grains eventually turn to sugar in the body, albeit a lot slower than table sugar and other refined sugars. Cutting out grains was hard for a few days, but after that I had absolutely no cravings at all for sugar or bread-ish products.
I'll share this secret...my wife makes a totally kickass "dessert" with apples and either sweet potatoes, yams, or butternut squash. First she bakes the sweet potato, yams, or squash and mashes them, then she throws the apples in a pan with some cinnamon, butter and raisins. She serves them together...it is amazing!!! Seriously, this should satisfy any sweet craving you have.
I thought it would be a lot harder than it was because I wasn't a vegetable person, but I quickly realized that vegetables could be delicious and most of my dislike was purely imaginary...just stick with eating clean and you'll be fine. :)
I agree, I can't believe I used to eat all that crap ALL THE TIME. EPIC FAIL on my part...glad I got my crap together :)

I bought some salt free, all natural, almonds ONLY, Almond Butter and put that on my Ezekiel bread. The first time I did this....YUCK! I missed the salt more than any of the other poisonous ingredients. But well within a week, I adjusted and actually LOVED the taste minus the salt.
I'm having a tough time eating totally clean right now. But I'm in my mid 50s and have eaten sugar ladened food all my life. Guess it's not going to happen over night. Tried cold turkey, but it led me to binging on sweets. So that's not good.
I hope one day, I have a similar experience as you that drives me right back to eating clean because I enjoy it so much better!
I think you experienced a great victory, sick as you were!
I decided to have some pizza (dominos) last night after eating clean for a little more than a month. Things I noticed:
A. Holy crap it was salty. B. It actually didn't taste as good as I remember. C. It made me sick. D. Did I mention it made me sick. E. Sick as in there was more out of my stomach than in it. F. Did I mention how salty it was?
I still feel fairly terrible today. I never thought I would hate pizza so much...it used to be something I ate all the time. I guess I will stick to eating clean for at least another month. Time to go cook some grass-fed steak, mushrooms, and peppers...one of my NEW favorite foods. :)
Anyone else have any experiences like this? I can't be the only one...
