The MSG info was in reference to ANIDUCKTHISTLE's comment about torula yeast. Honestly I think people would be surprised how much food has MSG... good thing we are watchful for it!!

Yeah, I think it IS in those RCC protein powders. But we are getting so good at reading labels aren't we??

Thanks for the link to the list; that's pretty cool. I've seen other lists like that. I think Mercola's got one and probably Mike Adams's got one too.

Do you think there is MSG in protwin powders/shakes? I guess there could be, but I always sort of though MSG was in things like sauces, condiments, processed frozen dinners and packaged foods.
I guess if you had some real crappy, cheap protein powder you could get MSG. Hmmm...

Those ingredients certainly don't look bad from what I know. I was thinking about other Vega powders that I was familiar with. I must have passed this one by or maybe, since all the recent bruhaha about synthetic vitamin D they just left that nutrient out. I didn't see it listed. I couldn't use this product because of the iron that is in it. That much iron is for guys and women still in menses; I'm neither!
But for you it looks like a good one since you work out so much.

Vega is a strictly vegan powder so it might still have vitamin D2 in it or, if it has D3 it will come from torula yeast which, I think, is not a healthy thing. I will go look that up to be sure. For sure it isn't a natural food.

The trouble with vitamin D is that the only natural source of it is in oily fish and fish liver oils. Vegans have to find an inferior source.

Moral: if you use Vega make sure you are also getting a natural vitamin D supplement as well.

PS: on ingredient labels "torula yeast" is another name for MSG (I've read that anyway)

My new favorite (just thought it up this morning) -
1/2 C keifer
1/4 C soy milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 C frozen blueberries

It tastes like blueberry cheesecake!

I can't have whey either. Pea, hemp, and rice proteins work, but don't taste good. I found a Vegan+ protein that I like!

My problem with most shakes and protein powder... I can't have whey protein! I did find one that uses powdered egg whites (I think...lol I forget what it uses, but it isn't whey) ...I am also lactose intolerant... so I use my lactose free milk, berries (blackberries, raspberries, & strawberries) and mango with my non-whey protein powder.

Out of morbid curiosity I actually watched that whole film. About 1/4th of it was funny/cute and the rest was...morbid!
Sorry, I guess I'm old fashioned. Even silly cartoon slasher films seem disgusting to me. I appreciate the creativity though.

As far as clean goes, I use this:

www.amazon.com/Foods-Whey-Protein-Is
ol
ate-100/dp/B0015AQL1Q

It is pretty much just plain whey isolate that has been micro-filtered instead of chemically processed.
The fact that it is unflavored let's me add it to almost anything.

Coconut milk, pineapple and banana sounds GREAT! emoticon

Also, there are protein powders that are processed at very low temperatures. I also like mine because it uses stevia o sweeten, and you can buy the unsweetened, unflavored version.

I generally have a shake every morning after my workout or run. They usually have berries banana and sometimes spinach. But when I am having cravings for something sweet I make them with coconut milk, pineapple and a banana. Yesterday I made one with cranberries an orange and spinach, not bad.

I just discovered a new (new to me) protein powder called Matrix Meal made by NuLife Herbs. It tastes really good and has coconut in it. I wish they would leave out the Xylitol and let people sweeten or not as they choose. The label is a bit misleading because it claims "no sugar" but it does have date sugar in it. Maybe they are in the middle of making a change to their recipe and so the label doesn't match...whatever. I like so many of the ingredients in this product.

We are so savvy on this team that we all know that all these protein powders are refined food particles and as such shouldn't be used except as a supplement to a very healthy diet and only used when we feel we need them--like Laura who works out like a beast every day...lol. Some protein powders are definitely better than others for sure but none of them are "natural".

Here's what it says on the Azure Standard website:

My go-to usually has vegan protein powder, banana, berries, spinach and avocado.

(BTW, it took my brain ENTIRELY too long to figure out the date on this post. I was like, huh? It's not May! I blame it on my being sick!)

My "go to" protein shake is Life Brand Sportzone chocolate whey protein (stevia!!) with non-fat milk, but I've been having chocolate (1%) milk lately 'cause it's been on sale cheaper than the white, and that is DIVINE.... Tastes like it's about 900 cals!!

My "go to" shake is 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 Tbspn almond butter, 1 scoop whey protein, 1 scoop Emerald Balance greens powder, 1/2 cup plain yogurt & whatever liquid I choose (ie. water, soy milk, almond milk, 100% fruit or veggie juice). Blend & enjoy!

I usually have a protein shake every day. I vary mine all the time.
They all start with some kind of liquid, and usually have dairy, some fruit, something green and some protein powder.
I sometimes have coconut water, or almond milk, or raw milk, then add yogurt or cottage cheese. Sometimes I'll add a banana, or maybe some mango. Sometimes it's berries. I quite often like to add some spinach too.
A little healthy fat can go in also. Nut butter or flaxseed oil.

My current favorite smoothie is coconut water, frozen mango, plain yogurt, whey protein and spinach.

I also like raw milk, frozen banana, chocolate protein powder, maca and almond butter shakes.

What's your favorite protein concoction?
