Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm in Jersey...10 mins away from Manhattan (NYC). I didn't check the nutrition fact on the packaged Bison as it was behind the meat counter. I just saw it was in the package and kept on going. I was hoping to get a fresh cut. I'll probably have to send for it through the mail like Omaha Steaks.

There is a bison farm in the town where we used to live in Maine. They do shipping. This is the web site.

Our WholeFoods carries it at the meat/butchers counter. That's the only place in my area that sells it.

You may also want to try your local farmer's market -- I can buy bison there.

I've also bought frozen ground bison at Whole Foods and found it to be really tasty and perfectly clean. If you're set on finding it fresh, then by all means go for it, but frozen isn't necessarily worse.

BLACKANDI, did you check the ingredients list? I have bought the pre-packaged ground bison and it was really good. It had no added anything and it was never frozen. Ah, the wonders of vacuum sealing.

I may have to drive to Lake Charles and check our Kroger's. Never even thought to check there! I know that in the small community that I live in, there is no place. Plus, I know it can't be super fresh.... not too many buffalo roaming around SW Louisiana! lol

What area do you live in? I live in SW Louisiana so I cannot get it locally. My brother lives in Wichita and says that there are a couple of stores there that have it. I found a few places that will ship it.

I just searched those, but I have not tried either one. I am going to Wichita next week and my brother is picking some buffalo meat up for us to try while we are there!

I went and took my time around Whole Foods Market for the first time (I've been there many times, just never looked at all they had to offer) and I made my way to the butcher...

Well, they only carried packaged/manufactured Bison. I was disappointed.

Anyway, I don't know where I can get Bison...maybe I have to have it FedExed to me. I called a town butcher and he didn't even have any.
