MOM2brittany,
Your doing good for your children also. My Kids are grown & not home, but I always tried to feed them healthy, my Mom did with me, so I did the same for my kids. So joining eating clean team, was a head start for me, because I basicly ate like this all my life. I needed to learn portion control & to add more fiber & protein & I am now.

Oh, I also wanted to add that I use Healthy Cookbooks to find treats and snacks for them. That way I can still make chocolate chip cookies and other things but in a healthier way for them.

Good luck!

This is a hard one. My kids are from from clean eaters but I am slowly working on it. We stopped buying packaged snacks for their lunches and now I bake things like cookies, muffins and breads. It's going ok although they are mad at me for getting rid of all their favorite snacks. I found they like pumpkin-flavored treats but nothing with fresh blueberries. It's really trial and error and the younger ones are much more receptive to the new foods whereas my older ones look at and say "no, thanks". I have tried having the kids pick out recipes, help me cook, etc but it doesn't seem to get them to eat it. I figure I will just keep at it and hope one day they get it.

Cheerwell,
You know what's even scarier, you become your parent. About 6 months ago a few of my cousins went by my cousin Maria's house & the girls were sitting around the table & the hubbies were outside & we women were talking who has this that bothers them & that, well I was quite for a monment & you had to hear them, I couldn't hold my laughter back anymore, I started to laugh so hard I was crying. I said to my cousins, you know what? We're starting to sound like our Mothers. They were quite for a second & then laughed.
My cousin said, your right.
I guess you had to be there.

It's good to start right from when the children are 1 yr old.

Lee907, your post brought a smile to my face, I can still hear my mother telling us that "Kool-aid" was terrible. We had those commercials with the Smiling pitcher guy and all the kids running around happily. I thought my mother must have been really dumb, after all look at how happy and active those kids were. Boy you sure can tell when you have reached maturity. you realize that your mother was right after all.

Be yourself, you are unique. Remember there is no one out there more qualified for the job.

Hi,
I think it's terrific that you mothers are trying to teach your kids to eat clean. I grew up that way, my mom always gave us fresh veggies & fruit, I never drank soda, she won't allow it, only on holidays, she said because it's a special day & then tha'ts it, I never drank it even when we were allowed, it was to sweet for me.
So when I joined this team, I was lucky I ate veggies all the time. I just had to learn to eat smaller portions & less eating of cookies. That's my downfall, cookies. I'm good now though.

Lee
So if you mom's get the children use to this way at a young age, they might want sweets only once in a while.

I've had success with participation. If they help make it, they will at least try new things and be open to it. Good luck!

Hi!!!! I've started included more fruit and vegetables in their meals (lunch and dinner).

For breakast I've started making fruit smoothies with ground flax along with their cold cereal(still working on the hot cereal....that's not going too well).

Packed lunches are pretty rough as the school cafeteria still trumps me everytime.
Moms wraps or greasy fries??? I've hope still as I've noticed they are eating more of the packed lunchs than before.

Dinner, I prepare:) So it's 100% clean.

My new philosophy...Control what you could (breakfast and dinner) and hope they make the right choices with lunch and recess foods.

We can only teach and guide our children in the right direction, ultimately they must be the ones to choose.
Lead by example.

I need suggestions on helping move my kids from the junk they have been eating over to more clean choices. I "get" that if it's not around they won't eat it and if it is around that they will, but I'd like to hear about some tasty things people have done to make the transition more smooth and positive. Thanks!
