Try anything that does not have gluten or HFCS. Ezekiel products are my favorite but if you can't find those, then just look for anything that is sprouted. Sprouted breads have wheat but the gluten is killed off during the sprouting process and they are clean and whole grains.
Look in gluten- free sections and organic sections at the grocery. Look in the freezer section. If you have a health food store close by you will have no problem finding these products.
But if you still can't find them, then try www.foodforlife.com to get Ezekiel products.

None of the grocery stores here have any bread that's acceptable, so I just don't eat it. emoticon

That is fine, but sprouted grain bread is cleaner than bread made with flour.

I get Alvarado Street Bakery, it's from San Francisco, so I don't know how widely available it is. They make all different types of sprouted grain breads, tortillas, bagels, and pizza crust.

Whole Grain or Whole Wheat bread by Aunt Millies. There are no HFCS added. That's the best I can do. I'm not a big fan of the ezekiel bread...it's okay, but it almost always goes to waste. I also make my own bread using the bread maker.

this is how I count the calories:
flour has the calories written on the bag so work out how much you are using (the bread machine will give you instructions as to how much). add the total calories of the flour and any other ingredients you are using (i.e. yeast, oil, sugar etc...)
After you bake your bread slice it up and divide the total calories of your ingredients by the number of slices of bread you have cut and that will tell you the calories per slice. Did I make sense just then or have I just confused everyone?

I got a bread machine for my wedding 6 years ago and I have yet to use it! LOL! I keep meaning to.
Along with flour you need yeast, and otherwise it depends on the type of bread you want to make.

You actually don't even need a bread machine to make a yummy bread. One of my favorite kinds is actually done by hand and only takes a few minutes work. It takes over 24 hours to make though so you do need to plan ahead. Here is a video to show you how. www.breadtopia.com/basic-no-knead-me

Breads are hard because if you read the lables most of them have hfcs among other things. I've just been making my own so I know what is in them and that they are good. And, yes, the bread machine does take the work out of it.

I searched ezekiel bread and found the site with a store locator....HOWEVER... it is very outdated...call the stores to see if they are still there before you start driving! Does that sound like I got stung? No, I didn't but there were five places in my town, according to the list, and four were no longer there. The fifth was a nasty hole-in-the-wall and I didn't buy it there, either!

Do you have a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Nob Hill or Raley's food store? Most of these do carry Ezekiel breads or similar.

I eat Sara Lee 100% whole wheat or whole grain, can't remember which, "Delightful". It only has 45 calories per slice. I use it because I can't find ezekiel bread here either and it's the best substitute I can find. Watch if you try the Delightful though...they make one that isn't whole grain.
