Today ends the Holiday Challenge. Congrats to all...showing up and even trying the challenge is admirable.

I gained 3 pounds total...but no inches on my waist. I know it's mostly water and I'm okay with as today begins the January Challenge...see the new thread here on this team.

I did fairly well with the workouts. The past two weeks I got in two workouts but I was so active in all of the holiday planning an activities...I hardly sat down.

Feel free to share your experience and your results. And PLEASE join us on the new "Clean Eating" challenge.

Best!
Linda

I gotta admit I started out so strong but the last week I just sorta fell off the wagon - or maybe I fell on as walking woulda been good for me!

I gained 6 pounds - maybe its water weight? :p

No seriosuly I gained so tomorrow my plan is in place - my food is packed - I am hitting the gym twice a day monday - Friday this week in an effort to jump start my losses ( again )...

SO what is this January challenge going to be 3 work outs a week? I have got that covered!

Count me in Lori!

Hi Ya'll,

Finally, the Xmas "season" is over in my house. My stepdad & moms came over with food: Puerto Rican pork shoulder {yummy & low fat} Rice & Peas & Red Beans in Sauce WITH Pumpkin & Coconut Custard Pie AND whipped cream in a can ....guess who's weight is up to 130?

My shoulder/neck area is doing well, still taking asprins for it but not 100% better--i pulled it the other day *sighs* this is getting annoying.

Tomorrow i have to clean 14J & 6D2...should be interesting since my DD will be coming with me; she's always a help but a lil chatty monkey lol.

I might do a short yoga session later on today--i'm not sure & of course it all has to do with how my body feels.

Have a great day ya'll

Well even with all my good intentions, my holiday season was a bust. No workouts, didn't really eat well. But I am more than ready to get back to it. My dh and I are going to do a 30-Day program together so I am good for a clean eating challenge for January.

Let me know what you were thinking!

Where did everybody go? LOL!

Everyone must be busy or exhausted from the holidays. We are in the last week of the challenge...can you squeeze in those 3 workouts?

Anybody up for a January challenge?

Happy New Year!

******
Me!
I got my three workouts in last week..0ne yoga, one cardio and one full body weight session. Eating was pretty good...I probably drank more calories than form cheats...LOL!

Happy Holidays!

How are you all doing?

This is Christmas week so your only task this week is to get those workouts in...can you squeeze in 3 workouts at 30 minutes? You can break this up anyway you need to.

Also eat as clean as you can to plan your holiday cheats!

Yes! I am working on a January challenge. I'm thinking we can set goals on cleaning eating habits. This will not be about setting goals on pounds or dress sizes as if you set goals around good habits then the outcomes will be pounds, inches and sizes, right? I need some help with this challenge so please give me your ideas...thanks!

Happy Holidays!

*****

Me:

I only got two official workouts:
Monday - upper body weights
Tues - 60 minutes power yoga
We had bad weather so I am counting shoveling, three times at 45 minutes each!

Eating was very good all week but I'm still struggling with weekends!

I'm heading to the elliptical right now!
Happy Holidays!

LROD1999,

This sounds like a great challenge! Unforunately, I am now just getting back into the flow. Do you think that you will think of any other challenges that pertain to Eating Clean? I hope so, because I would like to participate!

I have been up and out the door to the gym every day for the past two weeks - well I took Sunday's off - this was huge for me since I was hitting the gym later in the day and not putting in the good work out that I get in first thing!

Great job everyone! Even when life is crazy...we get sick, work crazy stuff and holiday stress...we still hang in there and do what we can or jump back in when we can.

Just a note...you don't have to report your weight or wait measurement weekly. We'll report in after the challenge is over. It's up to you though if it helps you.
I stay away from the scale or it makes me crazy. I weigh in every few weeks...my pants tell me everything I need to know during the challenge...LOL!

Best wishes and just do your best...that all any of us can do!

My last week was also so-so. Over the weekend, I baked a million cookies to give to neighbors and friends which, consequently, resulted in ME eating a million cookies too. At least I went to the gym 5 times and did some intense weight lifting.

Anyway, my weight is 143 (down 1 lb from anomaly last week and down 0.5 lbs from 2 weeks ago.) I haven't measured my waist yet. I'll try to get to that tonight.

Well I did not do so well.....Workouts were nonexistent and my eating was 50% clean. My dh is working crazy hours so I have not been able to get to the gym in the evenings and I have been spending my days clearing out toys and clothes to give to charity. I am also trying to *play* more the little ones during the day so I haven't been able to squeeze in my workouts like I was. My plan is to try and get to the gym the next few nights and next week with dh home, I can really focus on doubling up the exercise and get back into the groove. I also have planned out my food this week so I should be good...

I've been down with a horrible cold that resulted in a fever of 102, strep throat and bronchitis. But I'm happy to report that today was my first of cardio in over 5 days. I did 47 min of the low impact version of 3-2-1 Workout. It wore me out but I still feel a bit weak so I'm going to cut back to 30 minutes for at least a week.

I ate pretty good considering my meals were practically non existent due to no appetite. Hard boiled egg and a little broccoli was about it. This mrng I got 4 spoons of oatmeal down.

Will attempt abs workout tonite!

Hi Ya'll,

I did bout 40 or 50 microns of In The Ring, basically, the warm up thru Interval 3.....wow! I still have to left feet but did get down much of the chore with a few tricky spots that are not gonna work with my feet, the living room space and carpet.

I plan on doing the warm up & the rest of the dvd tomorrow. Oh, i used 8lbs instead of a medince ball cos i dont have one. 8lbs is a good place to start cos when she does this figure 8 with the ball ya'll DO feel it in your abs.

I also did 20 microns of Cathe's Butts & Guts for my legs afterwards 10 microns of Star Trainer: Abs with Kendall who NEEDS his 'stache bach!

Total: 70 microns

Have a wonderful day

Well, I did some but not all...

My biggest accomplishment - I got up at 5:05 a.m. every weekday and went to the YMCA - 3 days Aquafit class and two days weight machines with abs (core) work.

I did not eat clean - except for breakfast 6 of the seven days.

Maybe I can do a little better this week. :)

Greetings!

How was last week for you...our second full week in the challenge?

Did you get your workouts in...at least 3 @ 30 minutes?
Did you feed your body CLEAN nutrition?
Did you get any core work in?
How is your stress management...or lack of? LOL!

For this week: KEEP IT UP!
1. Work out at least three time for at least 30 minutes.
2. Eat clean
3. Next week is Christmas! Is there a traditional holiday recipe that you can makeover? Please share!
4. BONUS: Stress management challenge: Get into a quite place for at least 5 minutes a day...meditate or pray...close your eyes and breathe....ahhhh!
5. BONUS: Keep working that core for 5 minutes after your workout!

*****
Me:

1. My back was acting up but I still did 3 Power yoga classes at 75 minutes each
2. I started off with a very clean week but the weekend was not too good. The best part of eating clean in that you can jump right back in. I've planned out my week which is key for me.
3. Power yoga is both core work and stress management!

Keep up the good work!
Linda

Yeah, I think I did pretty good last week. Ate well, exercised, did abs work 3 days. I have a family reunion coming up on Sunday-THAT will be the test! But it may actually work out OK becuz that's also my weigh in day. The results of that may be incentive for me to keep my face OUT OF THE FUDGE!

Awesome job to everyone who already checked in. Go Team!

If you have not posted or if you are just joining us (you can join us at any time)....
Okay, how was last week...our first full week in the challenge?

Did you get your workouts in...at least 3 @ 30 minutes?
Did you feed your body CLEAN nutrition?
Did you get any core work in?
Did you attend any holiday parties? What was your strategy?

For this week: EASY!
1. Work out at least three time for at least 30 minutes.
2. Eat clean
3. Stress management challenge: Get into a quite place for at least 5 minutes a day...meditate or pray...close your eyes and breathe....ahhhh!
4. BONUS: Keep working that core for 5 minutes after your workout!

*********

Me

Workouts
Sun - 20 minutes elliptical
Monday - 30 minutes upper body and 20 minutes HIIT treadmill
Tuesday - 30 minutes lower body weights
Thursday - 90 minutes Power Yoga in a heated room

I went to a party on Saturday night. I ate clean all day and even had a snack before we left. The party was my planned cheat BUT I only had small portions of the sinful stuff...cheese and lasagna! and no sweets. I had a few cocktails though...woo hoo!

Have a great week!

I haven't been doing much with either eating or exercise but I think I am back on board. I mapped out my workouts for the month so all I have to do is follow it LOL!

Today I did the Shred and I will follow this up with the Biggest Loser Cardio after I get the kids from school.

I have ate well today and am back to tracking so I can keep a tight control on my calories.

12/8/08 Update
1. I did at least 30 min. of cardio 6 times this past week!
2. Eat clean: Meh, I did so-so on this. I had two days last week where I went 100 calories or more above my goal range because of some garbage snacks.
:( I pledge to do better this week and I feel optimistic that I can improve.
3. I did 2 weight sessions this week. One was with my trainer (I never had calves so sore in all my life) and the other was with a work out buddy.
4. Holiday parties: I didn't attend any holiday parties, specifically, but I did have a few instances of restaurant dining with visiting guests. My strategies were the following:
(1) order whatever looked lightest in terms of cheese, fats, and grease;
(2) never order anything deep fried;
(3) order a bowl of broth-based soup;
(4) order a small portion size rather than an entree size, such as an appetizer; and
(5) skip the dessert, but have a cup of coffee instead so I still feel like I'm participating.
And also, NO SODAS!

This worked pretty well for me, I think, considering that my usual M.O. at restaurants would be to order whatever struck my fancy and eat until I couldn't eat any more. With my guidelines, I still ate well and I didn't feel stuffed and bloated.

Weight: 144 (this is actually up .5 lb from last week. Curious. I think that it has to do with TOM.)
Waist: 33.5 (this is down a 1/2 inch! I must say, I have been feeling a lot "tighter" lately.)

Info from last week:
1. 3 cardio sessions: yes!
2. Eat clean: I'm going to say yes, because I have been very good at meal tracking and portion control. I've also successfully avoided the devilish snacks and candies that are all over my office.
3. 2 weight sessions: yes! I did 2 Body Pump classes this week. Body Pump is an hour-long, full body free weight class that my gym offers. I totally recommend it.

Weight: 143.5
Waist: 34 in.

Oh, I am so in on this! 3 times a week - I can do it... mygoal will be for an hour each time though.

I am at 165 or so right now (should have joined prior to thanksgiving!)

Linda - I not only like challenges...I need a challenge!

My weight was 162.6 Monday morning.

I did 45 minutes hard cardio last night.

I ate very clean yesterday - only ended up with 17% fat (4 sat fat)... for me, that was a very good day.

Gotta get to work.

Challenge Update:

I'm sorry for starting late, but I will post my workouts up to date.

Afternoon did: aerobic high impact, jacks: 120 minutes

11/29

12/1

Walked outdoors For:75 minutes/did/lunges/squats/W/Kicks/planks/p

I'm still maintaining my goal weight:
I was getting stressed, because last year at this time is when I gained my weight & I swore I won't do this again. But I was good on Thanksgiving, my family couldn't believe how I disciplined myself. I told them it's to hard to lose weight & I don't want to have to get stressed from it.
I told them I'm eating, but I am not piling food all at once in my plate. I'll eat more later.
I did fine, & I ate the healthy foods. I even tasted
cheese cake.

My current weight is: 108 lbs
waist: 24
hips; 32 1/2 (I lost a 1/2 " since Nov. 1st
neck: 11

Everything is the same except my hips

Challenge update:

1. 3 cardio sessions: yes!

My weight this morning was 143.5. I'll wait to measure my waist again until next week.

Happy Monday!

So, how did we do with our workouts last week?

Just for clarification our workout week is Sunday to Sunday. Last week our goal was at least 2 workouts of at least 30 minutes...or an equivalent combination.

This week our goal:

1. At least three workouts of 30 minutes...or an equivalent combination. You can always work out more!

2. Eat clean. The Thanksgiving holidays are over and the holiday parties begin. Plan your cheats...share your tips!

3. BONUS...work your core for at least 5 minutes twice this week. Spark has a great 5-minute ball workout. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitnes
s_articles.asp?id=1177

NOTE: You can post here or the community journal...sorry for the confusion and YES you can join us at any time!

********************

ME!
3 workouts for me

How did you do?

Please note that this is not about perfection...just progress!

Best!

This is a great challenge! The holidays are always a source of gluttony and sloth for me. Hopefully this challenge will keep me on the right path.

My weight today is 144.5 lbs.

I don't have a measuring tape with me now but I'll post back tonight with my waist measurement.

ETA: Waist at bellybutton is 34 inches.

(still need to measure -- I'll edit this post to add that later).

Before I forget -- what's a community journal? I don't think I've ever used one of those before.

Ok dokes, I couldn't find the tape measure but I did weigh so.....

Start weight 145 lbs...eeeek!!!

I went to the gym last night and did circuit, my circuit consists of:

* 5 minute warm up
* Intervals on TM 2mins jog/1min 20secs sprint -
repeat three times with final 2 min jog @ end
total 12 mins (sprint is increased by 10 secs
every 1-2 weeks, started at 1 minute)
* Superset -
Chest press + chest flyes 2 X 20 of each
* Cross trainer 10 mins HR kept between 155-161
* Superset -
Bent over rows + shoulder extension on ball 2 X 20
of each
* TM as before
* Superset -
Tricep extensions + bicep curls 2 X 20 of each
* Superset -
Lunges + squats with shoulder press 2 X 20 of each
* cooldown and stretch

At the moment I am having severe issues with my calfs and shins so have swapped up the TM and currently am doing my intervals on the upright bike -2mins @ 70rpm and then 1min 20secs @ 115-120rpm - and boy does it have me sweating 10X as much as the TM!!!!

I know I posted here but it's gone!

Anyway:

WGT: 131.2
HIP: 38"
WAIST: 28"

Today I did 2 30 minutes on my exercise bike. I also did full body ST consisting of about 30 minutes.

I baked pies today using Splenda and a combo of whole wheat and white flour. I've never used Splenda so we'll see if the family can tell a difference.

Woo! Hoo! I am so excited that you are all participating. Welcome!

Okay Team Holiday Challenge 2008…get your scales out or your measuring tape and record your baseline. Feel free to post it here. I will be posting our challenges and tips here and on a Community Journal so you can follow along and participate at either board. I did not set up a Spark Team for this…just these boards.

Okay, what’s your plan for tomorrow? Have you completed at least two 30 minute workouts? You can accomplish a good workout in 30 minutes.

There are some great tips for trimming down your Thanksgiving meal on Spark today.
_______________________________________

Tomorrow my Thanksgiving meal will be my weekly cheat meal…stuffing…but I will not go crazy. I will start the day with a clean breakfast and lunch. Friday I will jump right back into eating clean.

I did a full body circuit on Monday – 30 minutes.
I’ve been prepping and cooking since Tuesday so I haven’t sat down!
Today I will do an upper body weights and a 20 minute HIIT on the elliptical.
Thanksgiving morning and Friday morning I am going to 90 minute power yoga.
Saturday will be lower body weights and 20 minute HIIT on the treadmill.

My scale battery is dead…no really it is…LOL! I will get a new battery and post my stats later.

Go Team!

You are cordially invited to join me in a "Holiday Challenge"! Where I used to work, we had a gym on site which was a great perk. The gym staff would always have all kinds of fitness challenges and contests over the year to keep us all motivated including the "Holiday Challenge". The challenge is this:

It starts Thanksgiving Day through January 5th.
The challenge is to maintain your weight and work out three times a week for at least 30 minutes....that's it! Not only will you feel better from not gaining that dreaded holiday weigh gain but committing to working out over the holidays will help manage holiday stress and make you feel better too.

At the gym, we would form teams, weigh in and have a team weight that we would have to maintain over the holidays as well as log in our workouts. My team even lost a few pounds! It helped me to have holiday treats in moderation and keep in shape despite the busy holiday schedule. So I'm bringing it back here! To make it easier, we will do this individually but you are more than welcome to form small teams of 5 people or less.

Are you in? Come on, you know you want to!

Again, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to maintain your weight over the holidays and to work out at least 3 times a week from today through January 5, 2009. All you have to do is maintain your current weight...not gain or lose but if you do lose any weight it will a great holiday gift to yourself.

Here's how it works:

1. Weigh yourself on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 or for a better gauge measure your waist at the belly button OR do full body measurements...it's your choice. This is on the honor system. You can post your weight and/or measurements BUT please know that you don’t have post it if you don’t feel comfortable. (When we did this at my old job, we did this with teams and had to weigh in which was a big motivator...our team actually lost 7 lbs. in the end!)

2. Work out at least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes (you can break this down into 2-15 minute sessions or 3-10 minutes sessions if you need to.) I know that this is a short week so your mission is to workout at least two times this week.

3. Eat Clean as much as you can. Cheat wisely!

4. Log your workouts on Monday's when I request them. Don't worry if you miss a workout in a week as I will also provide you with make-up assignments and challenges. I've started a Community Journal called "Holiday Challenge 2008" to host this challenge.

5. Keep this going until January 5, 2009.

6. Weigh yourself or measure your waist again on January 5, 2009 to see if you maintained your weight. For weight there is a two pound threshold to allow for water weight…see this not so hard!

I will also be providing tips and strategies for maintaining over the holidays and I invite YOU to share your tips, tricks and recipes to make this a SLIM holiday.

Enjoy with moderation and workout!

I hope you join me and if you read this late you can still join at any time!

Cheers and have a great Thanksgiving!
Linda
