Hi Ladies,
Ana,

Did you ever try cooking in the crock pot yet?
Most of the recipes are with beef, at least that's what it seems.
I tried my own, like I said I was going to do.
I just made a regular stew, but used chicken.
Put veggies, broth & it came out good. My hubby enjoyed it

The crock pot is a staple in my kitchen, I use it to make stock and or soups as well as stews, roasts or ham dinner. I love that you can throw everything in it in the morning and come home to a lovely dinner.
Company's Comming has a crock pot cookbook too. Have not looked at it lately to tell you if it is clean or not or how much adjusting. I have not done the crock pot oatmeal yet, but might try it with the smaller crock this weekend. I have two a small one and a large one - the smaller one doesn't get much use LOL

I love my CP!!! Like others the thing I cook the most (weekly) is chicken & broth or chicken & salsa. --The chicken just falls apart & is super moist & yummy!

I do have this recipe that I plan on making once it gets cooler here in CA:

CP - Tortilla Soup (you can always leave out the chips if you want it really clean)

4 whole chicken breast halves
1 clove garlic -- minced
2 cans chicken broth -- 14 oz
2 cans stewed tomatoes -- 14 oz
1 cup salsa
1/2 cup fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon cumin
8 ounces lowfat montery jack cheese -- cubed
4 ounces tortilla chips

1. Cook, debone, and shred chicken.
2. Saute garlic in margarine in slow cooker.
3. Combine all ingredients in cooker except cheese, and chips.
4. Cover. Cook on LOW for 8-10 hours.
5. Divide cubed cheese among 6 soup bowls. Ladle soup over cheese, sprinkle with chips.

Hi, I, too, have a crockpot and hardly ever use it. I know there's tons of great meals you can make but just never seem to come up with a recipe to use. Usually I do roasts but think I'm going to try and do more this winter especially with all the electrical and gas costs going up.

Thanks for sharing!

I have made this Weight Watchers recipe and have to say it's absolutely delicious. Also, can use your crockpot to make Pumpkin Oatmeal with steel cut oats, crock pot apple crisp, etc. Oh, and don't forget about putting raw chicken breast in with a can of low-sodium chicken noodle soup or some chicken bullion cubes and water. It gives you deliciously cooked chicken for recipes like chicken and dumplings!

Oh, here is the link to the weight watchers Three Bean and Pork Slow Cooker Chili:
http://www.weightwatchers.ca/food/rcp/in
dex.aspx?recipeId=88121

Crock Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal

Ingredients:
1 cup steel cut oats
4 cups water
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup brown sugar
4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Directions:
Cook overnight (8 - 10 hours) in small crockpot on low. Serve with a handful of pecans. Makes 4 normal servings, or 2 big ones.

Hi Ana,
I was figuring using chicken also. I don't like beef I mentioned in the recipe that I might try something with chicken. You know Ana, I guess if we just have an idea, now we could experiment. I love to cook, especially now that the fall is here. Where are you from? I'm from New York.
I found this on line last night On "Better Recipes.com" I might of mentioned this already.
Today I'm getting down my crockpot from the closet.
I think I'll try it tomorrow.
This is great, You can fix something in the morning & that's that.
Have a nice day.
Hugs,
Lee

Ana,

I just found one on "Better Recipes.com"

"Easy Crockpot Beef Stew"

1 lb of stew meat, cut in cubes
1 lb of baby carrots
4-5 medium potatoes
1 medium onion, chopped
2 pkgs of MC Cormick brown gravy
1 pkg of MC Cormick beef stew seasoning

Peel & chop potatoes & onion.
Place meat & veggies in crock pot
Cover with water & stir in seasoning & gravy mix
Cook covered on high setting for 4 to 6 hrs. OR
Cook " " on low setting for 8 to 12 hrs

I might try something with chicken parts also. I'll use my imagination. OH BOY!

Let me know if you tried it & I'll let you know.
The only thing I'm thinking is it might be salty from the gravy mix. I might add a little at a time & see if it's okay first.
Have a nice weekend Ana

Hugs,
Lee

I have a crockpot & never used it. I keep saying I'm going to use it, so your not alone because I'm not sure either. I guess there's really nothing to it. This time I'm using it, now that I know all of you girls have one, I can ask for suggestions now.

There is also a crock pot team on sparks with some great recipes. The crock pot book that I always refer to is "fix it and forget it light" you can get it at any book store and I think Walmart sells it too. There are some great healthy recipes and you can always modify them to a healthier version. Enjoy, it is by far the BEST cooking tool. It does all the work for you. You will save so much time. You can use all that extra time to workout! ENJOY!

i second that cookbook! i also do a recipe with boneless/skinless chix breast, salsa verde, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and oregano. the recipe calls for sourcream to be stirred in at the end, but it is fine w/o too. super easy & fast, and YES put the chix in raw :) i wondered the same thing too when i got mine

Better Homes and Gardens website has a collection of good crock pot recipes. You will have to adjust some ingredients to make them "clean" however, it is a good springboard. Most crock pots give you the option to cook on low or high and bring a small booklet with ideas. I find that the best recipe are those that include a tomato base...I like making fresh beans and soups in crock pots.

Have fun!!!

I usually take a can of black beans, red beans and maybe a few other. I add a can of corn or frozen corn. First I rinse my beans real good, the put them in the pot. I then add my salsa and mix everything real good I lay 4 chicken breats (frozen on top and then cook on low for 6 hrs. You can eat the breasts whole or shred them and make a "chili". Good luck it is really easy.....I usually use hot sals because we like spicy food!

I love to throw all different kinds of beans in it with some chicken breasts and salsa. Then I let it cook all day while working. Love the smell when I come in then serve with brown rice and a salad.
