I love your husband;s comment. How cute! I was thinking about servings veggies first at each meal instead of with dinner or lunch. You know, instead of having the corn with everything else, serving it first. My kids do pretty good eating their veggies but they will fill up on other things first. I already learned to serve bread and rolls after they have ate veggies and meat otherwise they will eat all the bread and be full. I think I need to start serving courses. Salad and/or veggies, meat and grain, bread. We'll try it later and see how it works.... Just thinking as I type along LOL

I just had to tell you guys that I did the veggie platter tonight before dinner. I almost crossed that line, my daughter gets out the blue corn tortilla chips and the organic salsa (see, all clean, just not in my plan for today) and I was reaching into the bag when I stopped. I opened the fridge, pulled out a red pepper and started chopping, baby. I made a beautiful veggie tray, broccoli, red pepper, baby carrots and celery sticks. Even put them on one of my serving trays for parties...my family attacked. By the time dinner was ready, we had 2 tiny florets of broccoli and a withered baby carrot and that was it, oh yeah, and me, still on plan. Wooo Hooo!

Oh, and my husband says, 'I don't know what it is about these vegetables tonight, but they're really good' I said, 'I made them with love', He said 'Sprinkle some love on them every night, baby, and maybe I'll eat more veggies.' Oh, Yeah!

I am sooo glad I checked back on this thread!!! You guys have me pinpointed with some of your comments!!!

I am a closet clean eater...I will overeat/binge on clean foods as soon as DH falls asleep!!! I do great all day like most of the rest of you but as soon as he's asleep it's over!!! If I fall asleep first then alls good!!!

Last night, I lost the battle with a jar of almond butter, I didn't empty the jar but I did dive in spoon first for the first time in months!!! Other nights it might be a bag of trail mix or 3-4 mini boxes of raisins or 2,3 or 4 bowls of high fiber cereal with soy milk!!! All and all not bad choices but not choices made in response to hungry!!! It's funny but I never am tempted my his unclean snacks which our house is full of!!!

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!!!

Jackie!!!

The veggie platter is a great idea. I could cut up all kinds and even put out some ranch for the kids (I don't like ranch). I'm going to try it tonight. Thanks!

Sarahgcon - try a veggie platter instead of the chips and dip, at least you'll get more veggies.
My closet eating is the Dannon Activa yogurt usually pear, I have stopped buying the large size as I will eat the whole thing every time the dog needs to go out at night, which is a lot as he is old.

I used to closet eat the natural peanut butter. I would open the fridge like I was getting out what I needed to prepare a meal and stand behind the door while I ate a spoonful or two (or three). I had to quit buying the natural peanut butter all together. I still stand there on the peanut butter aisle every week and just look at it, having to will myself away without putting it in the basket. I've been three weeks without it. (three weeks, 4 days, 5 hours and 12 minutes, just kidding)

But now my problem is that when I get home in the evening, it's like a party broke out. The kids are all telling me about their day and my husband is with me visiting and everybody's helping in the kitchen with dinner. Next thing I know I've got a glass of wine or a beer and the chips (baked) and dip (fat free black bean) are out on the counter or some mixed nuts or something and we're all munching and cooking. Then later when I enter everything in spark, I blew the whole day in a matter of 2 hours.

Oooh I am like that too. A closet eater. I think that is me. I eat great unless I am by myself and then it's like I'm sneaking food. The kid's lunch stuff, dh's chocolate. I wonder how you stop this?

SARAHGCON - I have the same problem as you do. I do really great all day long. I don't eat junk at work, but once I get home...I go crazy. It's when I am alone. I think I am a closet eater. I doesn't matter how much I plan my meals for the evening - I still end up going overboard. Not sure how to fix this---but I am working on it.

One day I was so busy at work I didn't get time to eat the food I had planned. I ended up with a sliced apple and some grapes, which I ate on the way home. It really got my evening off to the right start - I didn't arrive home famished. So now I plan a snack for on the way home.

Plan your evenings as well as your days. Don't have anything around to tempt you. If you have others in the house that want the bad stuff, make them keep it put up....out of sight out of mind type thing. Plan a tasty clean supper as well as snacks and desserts! I've learned keeping busy while watching tv helps me a lot. I fold cloths while the tv is on...but i fold on one side of the room and set them down on the other side, then put them away during commercials. I also get on the lap top and come to Sparkpeople....really helps hold down the munchies!

I have major issues with evenings. Not the late at night ice cream kind of issues, but when I walk in the door from work and have to start on dinner. I do great all day, bring my clean snacks, drink plenty of water, then I hit the door and it's like a Jekyl and Hyde sort of thing. I can't get enough.

Yes we all get those "days" or nights for me. I have a habit of eating a whole big container of the Activa Pear yogurt (must re-check the ingredients in it) Once I start it is so hard to stop - even too much of a good thing can be bad. Today is a new day.

This string helped me too! I did great over the weekend (which is very unusual for me), great on Monday and even resisted donuts yesterday morning and birthday cake in my department yesterday afternoon but then last night I ate oatmeal with sugar and butter, and 2 strips of bacon. WHY? After reading all your encouraging words, I am NOT going to beat myself up. I did have three fabulous days and I know I am on the right track.
Thanks all!!

I guess the HFCS makes sense. Whenever I end up eating something bad I start craving other bad things even though they almost always make me feel sick. Sunday night I went to Applebee's to go to a birthday party and all day Monday I ate horrible. Time to get back on track and go veggie shopping.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I left the house and went to the gym and did strength training for an hour and then went and visited my parents. Now I am going to get my lunch around for tomorrow and sit down and watch Biggest Loser.

HFCS is High Fructose Corn Syrup...I find it very addictive. If I have it, then I want to keep eating.

I want to eat everything in sight when I'm not feeling good. The thing you've got to remember is what you eat is totally your choice! Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to feel good? It is something you control, either being unhealthy or being healthy, it's all up to you. Some times it's easier to just stay the same (or it seems like it) until the day you get the report from your doctor that you have heart disease or diabetes or whatever, and you have to have drastic measure to take care of it. Isn't it better for you to make the choice now? My husband had open heart surgery years ago. He was very good about diet and exercise for quite a while...then it slipped from both of us. Then my mom had a heart procedure and had to be in CCU afterwards. When my husband visited her, he could hardly breath in there remembering what all he went through. Needless to say he got back on his diet. If you look through the teams on this site, or just look anywhere, you'll see someone who has it worse than you, and they still stick to their diet or exercise. if they can do it so can you!

Now, I need to learn to do what i preach emoticon
Actually, my mom told me on bad days get really dressed up. It actually works! If your all fancy and feel good about how you look you won't want to eat and mess it up. I look to put on something I couldn't wear before...another treat.

Denise

First off, what's done is done. Don't beat yourself up about it. I read somewhere on SP something that really helps me - just because you didn't brush your teeth before you went to bed last night doesn't mean you are going to give up brushing your teeth for good now - same thing with "falling off the wagon"

Try and drink water and go for a walk. You need to get your body moving. It will help you feel better mentally.

Also, look at your nutrition tracker and see if you can figure out what triggered this. Is it that TOM? Did you get some HFCS in your food? That can really trigger my bad eating episodes.

Try eating some protein to help satiate you if you are hungry, but it sounds like this wasn't a hunger issue.

Read some motivational stories from SP, if you have photos that help inspire you to be healthy look at those again, but the most important thing is to get moving. You'll feel happier and it'll help you to get back on the right path.

If you can get out of the house, that's the best thing for me. Either go for a walk or just go to a store, not a grocery store. Shoes are good, go try on shoes. If you can't leave the house, drink water, lots of water, lots and lots of water. It will make you feel kind of icky and you sure won't want to eat anymore. And you get the added benefit of flushing out some of the junk a little faster.
