Thanks for explaining that Tracey. It will definitely be a nonworking share, but when my kids were younger and I was home schooling all of them, I would have done just what you are doing and make it part of our school day.

I'm looking forward to giving this a try.

As for the pork, I asked the guy how the pigs live and are fed...I'd never buy pork at the store. Yuck!

CSA= Community Supported Agriculture.

I belong to one and this was our first year. It has been a fun experience and its something I know we will continue to do. The kids have actually enjoyed going out to the farm and working...we have a working share, but with our CSA you can also be a non-working share. We wanted to enlighten the kids to how our food gets to the table and how much work it is for that food to get to the table.

I have started buying fresh eggs from free range chickens and I swear to god they are the BEST eggs I have ever had in my life. The taste is so much lighter and just so YUMMY!! I started seeing a holistic doctor and he told me I had to bring UP my cholesterol and protein both were extremely low. He told me I had to eat 2 eggs a day--everyday. I cried and cried. I've been eating egg whites for years. He told me to get organic eggs I found a local farm that has the free-range chickens and I've been buying from them. Since buying from them it has NOT been a problem eating 2 eggs a day. I may not do it everyday but as I told the doc....what I'm doing is about all I can handle(mentally) right now I eat 2 eggs maybe 3 sometimes 4 days a week. We also bought grass-fed, no horomones added, no pesticide used cow last fall and boy I never knew beef could taste so good! We don't eat pork....well they'll (family) eat bacon on the weekends...I'll have turkey bacon that is it for pork though....something I read years ago about pork has turned both my hubby and I off from ever eating pork again.

I love getting to the farmers market and getting our stuff. I pick up our CSA share today and will have more greens, cabbage and fresh garlic...that's all I remember her telling me last week. Kids and I picked a bussel of tomatoes earlier this week and made stewed tomatoes, tomatoe sauce, spaghetti sauce and BBQ sauce...all canned. I'm so proud of myself emoticon

Well, Friday night and Saturday's events went well. I'm pleased with what I chose to eat. I did have 2 glasses of wine last night, but that was my only "non clean eating".

Plus I had the best time Saturday morning. I hit 2 local farmers markets and spent $100 on organic fruits, veggies and free range chickens and egss, as well as grass fed pork. (All local). And I got information about joining a C.S.A. for the winter.

(I have no idea what CSA stands for, but it's basically a co-op mind-set).

Now I have today and tomorrow to get through, but since I'm bringing the food, it should be okay. The only bad thing I'm brining is tortilla chips and I'm staying away from them. I've made salsa and I'll use veggies for dipping.

Tomorrow will be harder as I'll be with people who don't eat healthy and eat too large servings. But we will be doing some walking and I also am planning on brining fruit salad and veggies.

The weekend has been an easy one for me..mindset has helped. We haven't had any family get togethers or bar b ques to attend, so it's been smooth sailing.

We only have one event to go to this weekend and my Mom is the cook. Thankfully she always has a wide assortment of meats that she grills and there's always chicken. Also she usually has salad and lots of veggies and fruit salad. The hard part will be the desserts because she also always has a variety of desserts. I am going to try a small piece of the healthiest dessert she has.

The rest of the weekend I will be spending with my dh and kids so I should be good. Pretty much anything we do I can find chicken and veggies. My hardest part is the desserts so if the kid's want ice cream I am in trouble! LOL The weekends are always the hardest for me because I am thrown out of my routine. Good luck everyone!!!

Good point Msflo. I will do my best to keep my head and keep asking myself that question, "Will this help me reach my goal?"

I'm still new to this - right now I'm just trying to make better decisions. DH and I went out to lunch and I had a 1/2 sandwich and salad instead of something REALLY bad. I have half of his burger left for dinner, but made him stop at the grocery store so I could get a salad and some fruit too (I"m workig tonight.)

As for the weekend, I guess I'm lucky - I'm working all weekend so I don't have any of the parties or BBQs to tempt me. (A little depressing though!) I'm planning on making a chicken, asparagus and potato recipe I found on here for tomorrow and a salmon and zucchini dish on Saturday. There will probably be leftovers for the rest of the weekend too.

Taking things one day at a time!

I have been having way too many "special days" for the past month as we have been on vacation with family for 3 weeks. Now that I am home, I have had a rough time this week getting back on the totally clean wagon.
We are camping this weekend and my plan is to eat as "perfect" as possible for the meals that I am in total control of and let it slide a bit for the shared ones. This strategy worked for the vacation. I didn't gain any weight really, which was great.
But as of next week, I am back to strict guidelines. If I eat anymore wheat (one of my main issues for weight and digestion), I will explode! Good luck all and enjoy the last official weekend of summer. Summer is so short!

Goal date:

115 by June 2/08!

I have only one cookout to attend to this weekend but unfortunately it falls on my birthday. Everyone wants to make me a cake!! I have said no over and over but some of the people have been down right persistent about it. I don't want to say they've been nasty about it, but they are like come on its your bday you have to have cake on your bday. I have told a good friend of mine who was willing to buy all clean ingredients and bake a "clean" (as you can get) cake for me. I told her twice no thankyou I rather have fruit salad. Not sure if it has finally sunk in with some of my family though.

As far as the cookout goes, I have some bison meat that I'll be doing up for patties for our family and my dad said he would grill those up for us instead of the usual cookout fare that he always has. I'm taking some type of salad...haven't decided...orzo salad or this chick pea salad recipe that I saw from Whole Foods...decisions, decisions!

I will not be doing any cooking this weekend as far as BBQ thank God, I don't know yet if I will get invited over anyone's house, but I will try and control myself. It is the sweets that I have to stay away from, the other stuff is not a problem, but I am going to do my best and control whatever I do eat. Good luck to us all. Someone wrote on their thread, before they put anything in their mouth, they ask themselves the question, will this help me reach my goal, it does give you something to think about before putting something into your mouth.

Im really nervous, too, Nora.. I dont have much going on until Monday afternoon - we'll be going to a BBQ/housewarming party for a little while.. My plan is to eat a meal before we go, and then I am planning to bring that blackberry crumble dessert that was posted on here! I will allow myself to eat some of that, or whatever fruits and veggies are out at the party. Otherwise, I should really be satisfied bc of the meal I eat beforehand. Im also going to bring my water bottle!!

good luck!! lets stay strong!! :-)

I'm a bit nervous about the holiday weekend.
We have a cook-out and bon fire tonight.
An open house on Saturday.
Swimming and cookout with good friends on Sunday.
Possible visit to my daughters new apartment and seeing her new town on Monday.

There will be food at all these events. Yes, I will pack my little cooler bag I bought with clean foods, but...still worried about my resolve.

What will you all be doing in order to stick to your goals?
