Love the french toast idea and will try it soon!

I keep my Ezekiel Bread in the freezer until I'm ready to open it. Then, I keep it in the fridge. I can't use it fast enough to keep it at room temp without mold. I guess you could get out one day's portions if you want to eat it room temperature. It should do fine that way.

I, too, wish it was less expensive but I've decided it's one of the items I'll "splurge" on since the benefits outweigh the cost. When I'm eating clean and healthy, I spend less on food overall anyway so it works out.

I can't believe how filling the Ezekiel bread is. I only wish it weren't so pricy. It's 4.59 here in Ft Myers. Anyway, I am hooked. I decided not to use the pocket bread, since it falls apart. I started using Flat Out Wheat also.

sounds yummy, I made a grilled cheese with soy cheese slices Ezekiel and Earth Balance soy magarine, I admit I was concerned about how it was going to taste, but it was delish, cheese melted nice and was so filling, much more than any other grilled cheese I have had.

I usually split the loaf or package and put half in the freezer, half in the fridge. I'm not sure I've ever had a problem with thawing. Try storing them in the fridge? I don't eat them fast enough to store them at room temp...at least not during the summer months.

Since we are talking about Ezekiel bread, I have to share my latest favorite breakfast: French toast made with cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread. Its so good!

Just dip two slices of bread in 1/3 cup egg whites. Cook over medium heat in non-stick pan (I use cooking spray). Brown on both sides and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top. Top with fresh fruit. My favorites are blueberries and strawberries or banana.

For those of you who buy frozen bread (Ezekiel): Do you store it in the freezer? Their pocket bread seems to fall apart after thawing out and I am wondering if maybe I should keep it at room temp.

One thing I had never noticed until my DH pointed it out after we met... a lot of breads have corn syrup in them. If you can find some without, you're a lot better off!

Nature's Own Double fiber bread is my favorite but unforutnatly they don't have it here in NJ or PA. I've been eating Arnolds Flaxseed and fiber bread. Man it's so good!

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I actually had the 1 slice of E. bread today for a sandwich and it is very filling. Today I also went to Ada's (our local health food store) and bought the Ezekiel Pita. It has only 100 calories for the whole thing.

I now officially want to move to Hawaii! emoticon emoticon

I just do the best I can with Nature's Own double fiber wheat and their 12 grain. I have nowhere that I can buy bread and I can't afford a bread machine to make my own (one day!) and so I don't feel too guilty about the small quantities of impurities or unclean additives in them, they are very minor.

Am I correct in my thinking? I hope, I hope!

I agree with locally baked bread as my bread of choice. I go to Harvest bread company every couple of weeks to pick up my freshly made flax oatbran bread (it has pecans in it, yum!). I cut one piece and then cut that in half and put almond butter on it with an apple banana (a small local banana we have here in Hawaii - so much more flavorful than a regular banana!). So delicious! I like the bread because it is made with whole wheat flour that is ground here on the island. I wish it wasn't a big chain, but it is nice to have a whole wheat bread that is baked here on the islands...we don't have much of a selection in that category.

Ezekiel bread is my mainstay but when I want a sandwich I use Pepperidge Farm Very Thin Whole Wheat Bread. 3 Slices are 110 calories. It's not "perfectly" clean but the main ingredient is umbromated stone ground 100% whole wheat flour. The trace ingredients aren't all clean but they are in small amounts.

I double checked my loaf of Ezekiel bread, the calorie count is the same as regular bread, 80 cals a slice. Also Ezekiel does make a low sodium bread. I seen it at Krogers and Whole Foods

Do you know for sure there's not a bakery nearby that makes their own bread? I love walking down the block for my fresh bread, ingredients flour, yeast and salt.

Aunt Millie's has an organic flax seed bread that we eat. I pay attention to portions rather than calories, so it might be higher calorie than some that you're talking about. It has 110 calories per slice, but one slice is about two servings in my book. We don't have a Whole Foods around here, but when I was visiting in Florida, we bought some organic 12 grain bread with sunflower seeds in it at Whole Foods. It was fantastic.

I have tried Ezekiel bread, but for some reason it tastes very salty to me, and I don't like much salt. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that way about Ezekiel Bread? I would love to be able to eat it, but I taste salt for the rest of the day!

Good Morning Ladies!!!

I recently tried Flat Out Wraps...that might be what the previous poster is referring to...they were very good and versatile but a little too high in sodium for everyday eating!!! I think they had 330 mg of sodium!!!

I like to use 1/2 a pita pocket or mini pita pockets for "sandwiches", both which I get a Trader Joe's!!!

I have been eating a almond butter sandwich on 2 slices of Ezekiel bread as a snack on my running days!!! It feels so decadent to eat two slices of bread!!! LOL!!! That is another joy of RUNNING!!!

Have a great day!!!

I love ezekiel bread but la tortilla factory has a low carb wrap that is only 50 calories. They don't have high fructose corn syrup or hydrogeninated oils. (Although, there might be other ingredients that don't fit in with the clean living lifestyle.)

Ezekiel is what I eat, I think Food for Life makes a lower carb bread too, which is the same company. Check out a Whole Foods Store if one near you.

I'm sure this has been a topic before, but what type of bread do you suggest for a sandwich at lunch? I have Ezekial, but I hate to eat more than 1 slice because the calorie count is so high. Thanks in advance.
