Hang in there Andrea, it sounds like you have a good plan in place, so just stay strong and stick to it. It's really about enjoying and spending time with your family, so if that is the focus the food doesn't have to be. Maybe if the temptations get too strong, go for a quick walk in the neighborhood, or a local park.

Good luck, and Happy Easter!

I ate awful yesterday night for dinner so I'm hoping to redeem myself a little bit today....that's gonna be hard.

Those are some good suggestions - thank you! My biggest problem is that we're here for a few days, and almost the minute we walked in the door she broke out the junk. I refused (politely!) the chips, which wasn't hard because they weren't a flavour I love anyway, and I did ask her to save the chocolate for tomorrow. And she did! Hopefully I can get through tomorrow and then it's only a half day after that!
Have a Happy Easter!

Family dinners have always been interesting for me. I have a brother with food allegies, a very picky food eater brother, a brother who will eat anything. A dad who depending on the month may be eating low fat or not. And finally two sister in laws. One nursing and one dieting.
I tend to do all the cooking and there are tons of options available to please everyone. Sauces and gravies are always on the side since not everyone likes them.
There are usually to entrees as well. Then I send people home with left overs of things I won't be eating.

My mother broke her leg awhile ago and is still recuperating so I get to do the cooking at her house.. We are having a salmon fillet and brussell srpouts sauteed with raisins.. wild rice for me, baby red potatoes for them and steamed asparagus.. Steve is going to make some kind of a dessert for them but my mother is really supportive of my clean eating and they won't be offended if I don't eat any.. thank goodness!

Happy Easter to all of you, debbie

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

Nope, no clean eating at my in laws tomorrow either. Going to do a good workout in the morning and hope for the best, ha ha! Not going to stress about it, portion control will be key and make the best choices that you have available. Happy Easter everyone! emoticon emoticon

Great suggestions here! Let me add one more. When I go somewhere I know will not be clean-eating friendly, I sometimes pack a clean snack in my purse (a ziplock with almonds & raisins sprinkled with cinnamon works well). Then if I need to, I just excuse myself (go out to the car to get something, into the restroom, etc.) and have a handful of healthy stuff. Depending on the crowd, I may not feel the need to sneak away - just depends on how much flack I'll get and who the company is and whether I want to deal with it or not.

Fill up on plenty of water and eat something filling and clean before you go over there. Just take small portions and push it around like someone else suggested!! I'm going to my brothers house...first time ever eating over there, they always come here. THe two of us are so different in our eating styles....his family eats out 3 to 4 times a week...we eat out 3 to 4 times a year!! THey hate just about all veggies and most fruits...my kids will eat any fruit and veggie you put in front of them. I already know I'll be in the same boat as you. My sil asked me to make this fruit trifle that I make often. Its not clean, it has whipped topping, vanilla pudding, angel food cake. I always made it low-fat. My sister-in-law has cancer and she right now needs all the fat she can get because she has lost so much weight(due to chemo) so she has requested this dish--the full fat version. Instead of using angel food cake, I've replaced with pound cake! BUT....its being made mainly for her. I plan to enjoy my day with my brother and his family and mostly with my sister in law!!!

have a great time with you family

I can SO relate to this. We are going to my MIL's too. She cooks everything from scratch and loves to tell everyone how much butter she puts in everything. I have some things that I have told I just cannot eat due to 'digestive' reasons (ie - the cheese sauce she makes for the cauliflower). This way, I get to eat steamed cauliflower with no sauce and she is concerned for me so her feelings are not hurt!! Works for me!

I think ya just have to make the best of a bad situation. Bring a salad too! You can fill up on that, and have teaspoons full of the junk on your plate. Push them around, and make them look like you ate some! lol
Eat before you go over there too...something you would normally eat, about an hour before you get there. It helps.
One thing to keep in mind, even though its not clean, a cheat day is a good thing. It will help you lose weight, so don't be too critical. Have a bit of fun, and try not to over think it.

Best I can do!
I am bringing roasted red potatoes, sweet potatoes and asparagus...I will eat that, along with the roast! I can play pretty safe! I have already decided to have desert too...I made my SIL bring Angel food cake with Fresh strawberries. :) Its great when you can be bossy with your inlaws. LOL!
Have a great weekend, no matter what!

There is no clean eating at my families either and I am just gonna enjoy the ride. But if I get home early enough I will ride my bike or something but I think special occassions allow themselves for cheating or it would become boring. I just don't do it everyday. If you only cheated on holidays you wouldn't gain 20 pounds.

Hi Andre, I hear where you're coming from. My in-laws live down the road from us & all food prepared over there is homemade, full fat, country cooking. I have been fortunate that they are snowbirds and have been in FL since I started Spark.

I don't know how helpful this is but, if I was in the same situation you are facing, and knowing that you have no control over the chef nor the meal being prepared, I'd make sure I am drinking plenty of H2O while I'm there & focus on portion control. I generally work in an extra workout, too. Whatever I could do to help myself in a tough spot.

Stay Motivated & keep your eyes on the prize.
Good Luck & Happy Easter!

So it's the long weekend and we're going to my in-laws and you know what that means! My mother-in-law is wonderful, but whenever we're there for a visit, there's literally NOTHING that's even remotely clean! I am bringing a veggie tray, and I am totally not expecting perfection from myself this weekend. But I could use a bit of accountability, please! I want so much to come away from this weekend NOT gaining weight. I gained at Christmas and have yet to lose that, and I don't wish for a repeat!

So ask me how I'm doing throughout the weekend, please! I'll check in as often as I can!
Andre
