I'll have 2 look, it was given to me. if any of u have a freecycle group in your area, you might want to check there... someone was giving one away in my area the other day.

How do you guys store your dried stuff?

You have to make time. No doubt. Especially with kids. But I believe that our children need to see us doing things that are good for us. Well, the jury is in... I see a dehydrator in my near future. I have checked online fore dehydrators and they seem to range in price, but are pretty affordable. But as Smaree123 requested, can any of you ladies share some feedback on the type of dehydrator you have? Thanks!

I started using by dehydrator as well and it works great for apples and pears. That way I know that no additives have been added for preservatives. I can't wait for summer crops to try more. Last summer I had surplus zuchinni and tried them, then added it to soups when it was out of season. Worked well!!

cherries are really good from a dehydrator too. I had a hard time finding fruit at the store w/o added sugar too.

I agree with FAITHFULMOM, I love to dehydrate my own fruit because of all the added sugar in commercially dried fruits and I've also seen a lot of sunflower oil listed on dried fruit packages and I am allergic to that so its extra incentive to dry my own.

I know that I've searched long and hard for dried fruit without added sugar and have concluded that I would not find any.
They all seem to add sugar. So I use it sparingly.
I really should look into a food dehyrator.

Wow, you read my mind. I wanted to get dried cranberries & cherries this weekend for a couple of Tosca's recipes. The various brands of these fruits ALL have sugar added. I was getting so irritated in the grocery store because I by golden raisins regularly and they don't have added sugar. What the heck?!! Does anyone know if or where these fruits can be bought without the added sugar or is that all that's available. I can't imagine Tosca using these in her recipes. Hmmm

Do you have a food dehydrator? I dry my own b/c you're right hte store does have to many with sugar... I dry apples, and apricots, and make fruit leather - take smashed fruit add lemon juice ( citric acid) dry on dehydrator in strips. or I core then slice apples and dip in lemon juice then dry on food dehydrator - I buy in bulk when the food is in season to do this and I do this when the food is in season... I do however purchase rasins and dried cherries and cranberries on occasion. HTH

I was just at the grocery store looking for some dried fruit. I ended up getting some apricots, but most of them had added sugar, so you need to watch that.

We can get Turkish, Australian or American apricots at our wholesale markets and depending on the season, the price, look and taste are really different.
My husband eats dates on a long bike ride as they are one of the highest G.I foods available, so beware of the sugar/carbs!

Just curious to what you all thought about DRIED FRUIT. I had some issues today trying to find a good dried Apricot to purchase. I either didn't know what the ingredients were or they were from a different country.

Just curious.... I enjoy them for a sweet treat.
