I'm gum chewer as well. I might chew about 5 sticks a day. It keeps me from eating and I drink lots of water while I chew which is good. I know the fake sugars in them is bad, but compared to stuff I could be eating, I just can't give it up.

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT??

I would stay with the natural or organic brands. I don't trust all those crazy chemicals and ingredients that I can't even pronounce going into my body.

I will have to check out the Peelu gum. Whole Foods or Trader Joe's probably carries it right?

I am an avid chewer (is that a word?) of the Orbit Sweet Mint gum. Like GOODTIMESPRGIRL I just like the minty fresh and clean feeling I get from it. Plus it keeps my teeth busy and away from snacking!

ANDASI, you make a good point. I suppose if I'm cutting out stuff like diet soda and other processed foods, then I'm reducing the chemicals I eat by a great deal. I guess a little gum that keeps me from eating less than desirable foods and leaves my mouth minty fresh is okay. I will look for the natural kind next time I hit up the natural foods store in town. Does it taste like chewable tree bark? :)

I love to watch the Biggest Loser too, but you're right about the paid advertisements. Same thing with Bob Greene, he talks about eating only real foods, then plugs Fiber One bars, Progresso soup and Slimfast-talk about sugar laden, sodium filled processed food!

I know all this...and yet, somehow I still cave to slow churned ice cream...

My personal opinion on this is the bigest looser love the show and watch it weekly but in the end it is a tv show. If you have noticed they are promoting the gum and weight control oatmeal it is a built in advertisment in the show most likly they get sponsered by these companies also 24 hour fitness. We really dont get much insight in to what these people are really eating. Notice how they never show them sitting down for a meal ? But they do show them working out a lot.

My personal beleife is this you can loose weight eating diffrent types of foods if you are counting calories even foods that are not good for you. For me i want to consume the most nurishing clean food for my body so i would not consume a product like Oatmeal, Yogourt or any other foods that have sweetners added to them to replace sugar.

It comes down to personal choice I feel sweetners are not good for my health.

Having said all that i do chew gum. What i have been doing is breaking a peace in to 1/2 so instead of chewing 5 a day i hav maybie 2 pieces 2pieces divided in to halves that is 4 servings of gum for me. I do use stevia but have not found gum with it.

Oh that is true! Good point. Hopefully some of the experts around here will know more about the gum. It would be good to know!

True, but they also push the 100 calorie packs which are sooooo processed.

I honestly don't think it's all that bad at all. I've been watching The Biggest Looser for 3 seasons now and the trainers always tell the contestants to chew sugar free gum. Bob even tells his team to carry it with them at all times. So how can it really be that bad??

Hey everyone,

I haven't posted anything here before, but I've been reading your posts religiously! I'm going grocery shopping tonight to truly start eating clean. I've gotten my calories within my range, but now I need to clean up my diet. Anyway, my question is regarding sugarless gum. I chew probably 5 pieces a day. The chemicals freak me out, but I can't seem to stop chewing it. I just like the minty freshness! How bad is it really? Maybe if I hear the truth...it'll make me stop! haha!
