I tried calling them several times and sent them emails but no one ever responded or answered the phone. I wanted to talk to them about availability and trying it ou in their endless whirlpool. I hate to drive that far for nothing.

i will try again.

Rental options were:

www.wetsuitrentals.com

www.tribonzai.com - this is about an hour from me. I can rent online but pick up and try it on in the store.

www.xterrawetsuits.com

Getting nervous because the end of the month is coming and i don't have a wet suit on order yet.

I know some people who spray themselves at the edges of the wetsuit (ankles, armpits, shoulders for a sleeveless) with Pam, too. I didn't need it--it was challenging to get on but I wasn't in a rush, and it was easy to get off when wet.

Lovey,

I agree. I think a week is just fine, and renting for more than a week doesn't make sense if you can buy one for not much more.

I got my wetsuit about a week before my tri, and it was fine. Just practice taking it on and off. Both wet and dry, just to get used to it. Swim in it at least once, maybe twice.

Also, get Body Glide. Put it on your ankles and feet. When you try to remove your wetsuit, it will want to stick to you. This helps you to slide it off. (I had misinterpreted someone, and thought to put it on the wetsuit too, and it was very hard to remove - don't do this! Only put it on your skin.

P.S. - How are the swim workouts going?

Can anyone in your tri club loan you one to try? I would recommend sleeveless, because I find it easier to move my arms and the water temps aren't too bad here in MD. Besides, I've never tried a longsleeve and am quite content with my sleeveless!

You can probably get away with one week rental if money is an issue--try it out in the first day or two so if you need to change anything you still have time. And then a second practice at the open water practice. Besides, remember that you can buy one for $99, so if you are going to rent it for multiple weeks, you are better off buying it and then reselling it on eBay, or something like that.

Where are you looking to rent the wetsuit from?

It all depends on your preference as far as full sleeve or sleeveless. At 70 degrees though, I would think sleeveless. I have friends who refuse to wear one or the other, but it depends on what feels comfortable for you.

I have never rented a wetsuit (I live in New England, water temps are cold, so I get lots of use out of mine). But I would say a couple of weeks, depending on how much you swim per week. You want more than one swim in the wetsuit because it definitely takes some getting used to. I actually had to buy a different one because the one I had choked me.

Good luck!

wetsuit and wetsuit rentals:

I have a tri in June with a river swim. The race organizers say the water is usually around 70 degrees making it wetsuit legal. However, they cannot assure the participants until race morning when the temps are tested.

Anyway, I ahve never worn a wetsuit and I dont want to buy one the first out. The average rate is about $35 per week rental fee (one week minimum).

How many days or weeks should I rent the suit for because I will need to do some open water practice with it? The race also has an open water practice but it is the day before the race.

Fullsleeve or sleeveless?
