Lynn, that is one of the drills that I plan on trying first - once I get in the water!

I really wish my gym had a pool, but we are headed to the lake something this week or next....

Glad it helped you!

My "Total Immersion" book came in the mail yesterday, so read some of it last night. I went to the pool (53 degrees this morning!) to try a few of the drills. The first thing I noticed was that I could really improve my form by pressing my torso down into the water, which forced the bottom half of my body up closer toward the surface. Felt like I was going faster, but still huffin' and puffin' after just one length. Will that get better, I hope??

I'll head out on the bike when more degrees show up outside. Wind chill in July is not appealing.

Lynn

That sounds nice! A big part of me wants to just curl up with a book and a cup of tea. I think those days can be just as important as the days we go all out. Balance in training is something I continually strive for....

I declared today "lazy day" and have been spending the afternoon reading and relaxing. I did get a swim in though, and it felt good.

Last night I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and it was awesome! I'd actually go see it again if someone asked me.

I hope everything is going well in your neck of the woods!

Annette - can't wait to read your race report and see how much time you shave off! Bet you'll do great!!!

We're gearing up for our second tri in October... I would love to do one sooner, but you know, you just can't sign up for everything! LOL

Hello everyone!

I've been busy and away from my Spark Teams and I feel bad about that. It looks like you are all doing well and racing hard.

COUNTRYNETTERS - Welcome to the group and good luck on the upcoming tri!

ROADTOAD22- Congrats, Paula! Before you know it you'll have a little triathlete!

NETTYBREAD - The thought of doing a whole iron man has me reeling! Next year I'd love to do a half-iron man but that'll be a challenge to train for.

Good racing everyone!

~Meg

Hi everyone! I have my very first tri on Sunday! I am nervous and excited, but confident that I will finish! The training plan I am following has me doing very light workouts this week... it feels abit strange (not working out every day), but I keep telling myself it will end up helping me on Sunday.

Congrats to all who have had races already and good luck to those whow have races coming up!

HI! I just recently joined this group, but I had to say that I am super excited for my second sprint triathlon in 6 days!!! My first was exactly a year ago. I did the Danskin Chicagoland sprint 2008, and was just happy to finish (2:20:58). This year I hope to drop at least 10 minutes, but am really hoping to pull it under 2 hours. I know that is a ton of time to shave off, but I have a few factors in my favor. One, I have a faster road bike this year instead of my mountain bike and I get incrediable times on this new bike. Two, I am not doing the tri with anyone this year, so I will not be hesitating to see where they are at in transitions. And three I have been training super hard, and hope to complete the 5k in a run, instead of a fast walk/jog like last year. Let's just say I am hoping for the best!!!

Congrats on the pregnancy Netty, and congrats Wendy on finishing your Tri!

I have my first tri of the season in a little less than a month. It's my first open water tri, so I'm very nervous about that, but training is going relatively well.

I mentioned last month that I had some knee pain, well,it seems to be better. I haven't been running as much, and have been focusing more on swimming and biking, so I think that has helped.

Be fearless.

Hey everyone!
Its been a long time since I have been on SP. I've been super busy lately. I havent raced since mid May and can feel it. I totally miss the training but I do enjoy sleeping in (5:30) during the week. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and they advised me against racing/competing due to my age, trying to keep heart rate under 140 and ease of dehydration in the summer. Now I only "jog" and bike when I can. Keep up the good work everyone, Race one for me!!
Paula

Rock on!

YAY! Wendy!!! Congrats... I am so happy for you.

Tamra... I would definitely say it is much easier to be training hills, then go to a flat course than train FLAT and go to a hilly course. I think you will be fine and feel GREAT if you've been training on hills.

Glad to hear about everyone's success! Helen you are super busy!!!

Quick question: In my area most of the roads are very hilly, so I have gotten no training riding in a long reasonably flat course. How difficult would you say it is to adjust to "flatness"? (I'm not sure if that is a word but you know what I mean.)

Did my first tri (Iron Girl) on June 28th. Spent too long in transition, and wasn't crazy about the swim. But I am hooked!!!! (race report is on my sparkpage)

I signed up today for my second tri! Its October 4th! Think that will give me some time to read a book I have heard a LOT about (Total Immersion)and take a few lessons. I am going to streamline my transition routine a little, too.

Thanks for all your assistance with my questions prior to the Iron Girl! What an awesome experience!!!

If anyone is "on the fence" and lurking reading these threads, GO FOR IT!!!!!

Thanks, and great job girls. Helen... you're staying busy doing great. I say go for the 10K. Take it as a training run if nothing else and enjoy it.

Tamra, I'm excited for your upcoming events too.

I'm going for a nice, long bike ride with my husband today. I am looking forward to it, because I am a little stressed about my credit card # being stolen and used for online purchases. That is why I LOVE to run, bike, and swim. It sure clears my mind and keeps me grounded.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone,
Netty, so excited for your 1st Ironman. That will require lots of training and dedication, but it seems you are on track to do great.
I completed a 1/2 marathon on 5/31 (2:09) and then an Olympic tri on 6/13 (2:52:03, a PR for me by almost 7 Min!). I then did a sprint the week after in 1:30 (1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike, 3 mile run). I took 2nd in my AG in both those tri's, although there weren't too many participants in my age group (50-54). My next tri is a longer sprint (1/2M swim, 21 Bike, 5.3M run) on July 19th, and then another sprint around the same distance in early Sept. I am debated running a 10K on the 4th, and I have a few tennis tournaments thrown in for good measure. The trick for me is to stay uninjured!
Happy training everyone!
Helen

I'm doing well, staying on track so far. I have a 5K on August 8th and my first Sprint Tri on Sept. 7th (Labor Day). My daughter has decided to enter the kids tri on the same day. She is 9 years old. I am so proud of her, it will be fun for us to do this together.

July is officially here. Happy July everyone. Hopefully you're all busy training and enjoying your workouts! I know I am, and I've stayed very busy.

I have an Olympic triathlon this month, and 10 months until my Ironman St. George baby is born. I really am going to think of this as a wonderful pregnancy.LOL!
