Good morning everyone! I hope your Sunday is full of love and worship :)
Is there anything on the agenda besides Church and family time? Not really for us. My kids and dad are going fishing tonight on the river. They won't leave until late afternoon and they'll camp out there. Fun bonding time :)

How was everyone's Friday? How about today?

Our Friday consisted of a work out, a swim (laps), followed by a matinee with the kids. The kids had a lazy rest of the day while it was storming and I cleaned and made dinner!

Today there isn't a big plan. Second daughter wants a pool day but the weather will be iffy cooperating with her wishes lol Other than that I just have some cleaning on the agenda ... I might try to do some baking but I'm not sure how that will pan out!

Will be spending today making a big pot of navy bean soup and getting our "work" clothes together for tomorrow's appearance in PA. Luckily the group we are "visiting" has gotten a tent for the outdoor event because it is going to rain.....really wishing for just a little bit of snow!
Hope every one has a great day today!

I'm back after a couple of very trying weeks starting the day before Thanksgiving, but things are looking better and I will be checking in more often. I really missed everyone!

Hello there, anybody reading this thread? Would love to hear from you!

My lasagna turned out great yesterday and though my hubby ate 3 big pieces, I just had one small piece, good girl . . . pat on the head here, lol.

Our day started out so sunny this morning but has now turned dull and gloomy but our temp is around 50 so it's nice and mild. Many are taking advantage of this mildness to do their outdoor decorating for Christmas.

I'm doing some in the house today and it's looking festive!

Happy December! Wouldn't know it by the weather. Up to 70 degrees today. Yesterday was beautiful and I visited our main street stores for some Christmas shopping.

Today, son and daughter-in-law are coming up and we will be going to the Chief's game.

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone!
Very cold here, in the 20's and maybe we'll be getting more snow flurries today. I bundled up warm just to walk out to the car at 7 this morning, to go to Curves, brrrr.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your new hearing aids Linda, and I know what you mean by looking around to follow what others are doing! I still do that.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, we had ours in October, here in Canada. Getting ready for Christmas now and the next month or so will be exciting and joyous!

Have a great week!

Hello All! Time is going much too fast for me! We have had beautiful weather here in the high 60's during the days and dropping down to mid-high 30's at night. I still try to walk as much as possible and do some Spark exercises in the a.m. Still haven't made it to the community center to work out. Just too much going on and looks like it will stay that way until after the 1st of the year.

Still enjoying my new hearing aids and it is so great to be able to hear speakers especially ministers. Went to a funeral on Saturday and actually heard when it was time to bow my head rather than look around to see when everyone else did!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day & stay safe!

Good Morning! A fast check in before I get busy. Saturday is usually catch up on the house cleaning day & grocery shopping. Overslept this a.m. so probably won't get as much done as I wanted.

My goals for November is to make and stick to an exercise plan. Today is Day #3 and only 1 day has been accomplished. I am active...just no structured plan.

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone!

We don't hand out treats but my neighbour said she had a box of chips and they ran out fast! Unusual for so many children to be trick or treating as we don't have any young ones in our area.

Hubby and I spent the evening in the rec room and had our supper in front of the fireplace. We put on the TV and promptly fell asleep on the couches, lol.

A new month beginning . . . do any of you make goals for November? Would be interesting to hear about them.

Have a nice Thursday!

Happy Halloween to everyone! Yes, we hand out treats at our house, but each year it gets to be less children. Most of the churches and some of the elementary schools hold "Trunk or Treats" and the local high school held a Haunted Hallways on Monday. So we will see how it goes tonight. I didn't put up many decorations this year and granddaughter didn't even do the pumpkin carving. It will be warm here in the high 50's-low 60's. We do have rain and cooler temps forecast for the weekend.

Enjoy!

"Happy Halloween!" Do you give out goodies tonight? It is going to be very cold here by tonight and raining too. Most mothers took their youngsters to the Halloween parties at the mall over the weekend instead of walking the streets with them. Warmer and safer that way and more enjoyable.

Have a nice day everyone!

That is great Linda! It's good that she programmed them on a low setting, she can boost that up for you as you get used to it. With my Cochlear Implant, my device has a setting to help eliminate background noises and that helps. Nothing is going to be perfect but I sure appreciate all the hearing I can get with mine. It's wonderful that you donated your oldest one, and yes, we need to make our hearing devices a top priority, it's important for us to be able to hear as best as we can.

With the telephone, I can only pick out words, cannot have a real conversation. I think the CI works differently with each person.

Good Morning & glad to hear you are Ok from Sandy. Picked up my new hearing aids yesterday afternoon. They are very comfortable...I sometimes forget I have them on. Background noise is loud but conversation hearing is better. I do now have issues on the phone which I didn't have before but plan to call my audiologist today to see if there is some adjusting to do. She did say she had them programmed on a low setting and that I was no where near where I needed to be as she didn't want to overwhelm me right off the bat. There is no whistling or beeping which was a big issue with my old aid. I kept the old one as a backup and donated my oldest one. Well worth the money spent and I should have done this years ago!

Wow Una Lee, what a lot of steps you tracked. I'd say you definitely got your workout preparing for Sandy's arrival! I'd log it as a brisk walk too, good for you!

We are miles from Sandy but are feeling effects already heavy winds and rain. Tonight and overnight will be the worst for us here.

Hubby took me out this morning to stock up on food goods, just so we can stay right in as we are to get rain for a few days in a row. Now we're snug as two bugs in a rug, lol.

Thank you for the nice warm welcome. Hope I can contribute something to the team. I joined because I hadn't seen a team for deaf people before and here where I live, I don't even KNOW anyone else who is deaf! It's great to hear your stories and hear of the things that help.

See you again soon!

Thank you Gloria for the well-wishes concerning the Hurricane! Our light are flickering and I am trying to get my Spark stuff done before we loose power. I discovered just how tiring getting prepared for the arrival of this kind of storm can be--when I checked my pedometer last night I had walked 26,981 steps yesterday! Although it doesn't take into account all the lifting I logged it as a brisk 2 hour walk!
Welcome to the Team, glad to have you aboard!....Una Lee

Good morning everyone!
Kathy, when you say you have a CI, do you mean Cochlear Implant? Just wondering because that's what I have. And after silence for years, it was wonderful when they first 'turned it on!'

Mrsclaus, I'd say getting ready for a Hurricane would count as exercise, it must be a lot of work!

I just went to the audiologist yesterday and it was not good, but expected. There is no hope for the left ear at all and my right has gone past significant loss to profound loss. She is going to try to reprogram, for my loss, the hearing aides my daughter donated to me and make me a mold. She's actually going to program both aides for the right ear in case I have a need for a "spare". ( I am notoriously bad with with any kind of tech stuff and have ruined more things than I can count) Today we are preparing for tha arrival of Hurricane Sandy. I am tired already from the lifting and lugging. Wonder if there is a way to track "Hurricane Preparedness" on the fitness tracker?............... emoticon

Hi! I'm new today. Linda, I see you have joined one of my teams, glad to have you there!
I have a cochlear implant and was one of the original 4 "pioneers" done in Toronto, Canada. Since it worked so well on us 4 guinea pigs (lol), they have done many, many more! Have had it since, 1984 or 1985, not sure of the year.

I've had several of these outer devices, keep getting the newest, updated ones but had hoped this last one, purchased 3 years ago, will be my last!

Glad to hear you're getting new hearing aids Linda and hope the new ones work well for you.

Nice meeting you ladies here, I'll be back in when I can. Enjoy your weekend!

Well, guess I have to wait until Monday. The audiologist called and rescheduled due to a family emergency. I have worn hearing aids since my high school days when they discovered a hearing loss during a school hearing test. Always one hearing aid in the left ear. The one I wear now is very old...about 12 years and has been repaired twice. It now has a small beep that I can't hear but drives everyone else insane. So the past few months have been very frustrating. I just never have able to afford new aids. This audiologist put me in touch with a service that assists those still working or trying to find work and I qualified for assistance. They are paying a portion of the cost so now I can afford the hearing aids.

That is fantastic! Good luck with it. :-) I have had my CI for about 3 1/2 years and have really enjoyed it. I've discovered sounds I never heard before or forgot about. Do let us know about your experience with your new hearing aids. How long has it been since you last had hearing aids?

Hello out there!? Anyone home besides me? I'd love to hear how you guys are doing with your goals and CIs/hearing aids! Anyone have frustrations/questions/concerns relating to their hearing loss? Chime in when you can!

I had another mapping appt on Tuesday, but we didn't get it turned up enough. I've already got the volume turned up all the way! LOL I made another appt to see my audiologist on Dec 7 and we'll try again. After that, I don't return to see her until May.

My weight loss is another story-sigh. I'm really struggling to get those pesky pounds off! I know I just need to keep moving and watching what I put in my mouth!

I hope you all have a great holiday season!

HI everyone! How are you all doing with your weight loss?? I finally started losing those pesky pounds. 5 pounds gone in the last three weeks! PAH! :-)

How are those with CIs doing with hearing? I go back for another mapping in two weeks and I can't wait! I have my CI volume up all the way. I can hear people talking (the actual words) occassionally! It's soo cool! :-)

Natty-Thanks for the compliments on my profile pic! :-) I'm really struggling with my weight this year. Last year, I'd gotten down to 121 and I'm up to 129.6 now. I got up to 130 last week-eek! I've begun wearing my pedometer again and I hope by forcing myself to walking 10.000 steps a day, that will help me get back to where I was. That is amazing that you could understand the recorded answering machine message. You are so funny, calling DH's voice mail box over and over-lol!! I have another mapping appt in about three weeks and I'm pretty sure we will adjust my CI to louder sounds. I seem to keep turning it up more! :-) I can't wait to see what happens then!!

Can you guys believe it is nearly November already?! Wow-time flies, huh? We are nearly done with our renovations. I hope to take pictures later today and post some before and after photos! :-)

I hope everyone is doing well. Please check in and let us know what is going on with you!

Kathy, you look fantastic in your picture. It's great you heard them things.

Last Friday, I was trying to get ahold of my hubby by texting him, but his cellphone didn't tell him. So I decided to call his cellphone because the ringing noise will tell him someone is trying to get ahold of him, lol.

Well, I decided to put my CI ear on my cellphone to see what's up, since I usually avoid phones at all cost, lol. All of a sudden I started hearing this lady talking about my hubby's VM. I was like, "Wait a minute? Am I understanding what this woman is saying?!" So, I called again and listened. Behold, I heard every single words what that recording woman said about leaving a message on my hubby's VM! I was shocked and so happy. I thought I was dreaming, lol!! I called it like 7 times, since it was just my hubby. He was wondering what was wrong. I said, "Nothing. I was just excited to hear and to understand that lady speaking!:D After that, I called my youngest sister to test my CI ear, which I don't ever try to call anyone anymore, btw. I was able to have a small chat with my sister! I couldn't believe it! I still have problems with other different people's voices though, but this was a good enough news to me. I felt like my old self again.

Hi-it's been awhile since I've checked in and I see we are pretty quiet here! Is everyone settling into their fall routine?? We've been busy renovating! We are putting down gorgeous new wood floors in most of the main upstairs rooms and hallway (not the bedrooms, though). It's a lot of work but it will look so nice when we are done!

Kathy, I agree with Linda about your new picture being great. Aside from when I was a kid & just running for the heck of it (in games, with friends, etc) I've never been much of a runner. Walking is for me.

Linda, I don't know about in MO, but in AR today & yesterday have been exceptions to the rule, weatherwise. It is now 3PM & today we have not broken the 90 degree barrier. I'm astonished! Even have had afew rain drops :-)
You are right about time flying. Seems like yesterday my summer babysitting began & this Wednesday is my last. Thursday school here begins.

Thanks, Linda! :-) I hope to get more nice pics like that. I plan to look for another 5k to run in sometime in September.

How is everyone doing??

I'm noticing more and more ocol things I can hear with my CI!! I was meeting with my supervisor the other day and we needed to find out some info from someone so he made a phone call and the headset blocked his mouth but I actually understood about 40% of the words he said! That was amazing and thrilling! :-) I've never been able to understand words unless I was looking at the person who is talking. I hope the progress continues.

Love the new picture, Kathy! Congrats to you & Debbie for getting out there and participating in the races! I have got to get the consistent exercise off the back burner and stop making excuses and just do it!
The weather has really been hot this year with very thick humidity. Going from air conditioned home & office to outside almost takes one's breath away. Good news is the water intake has increased over the summer months. Time really flies. Only 2 more weeks and school starts a new year here.
Have a wonderful Monday & remember to Sparkle!

I wore my CI at the race too, but have decided I won't wear it next time. The clapping/cheering, etc was actually quite distracting to me. I'm used to running without it at home and prefer the peace and quiet so I can concentrate.

It's good to hear from you! :-)

Hello, everyone!

Kathy and Debbie, congrats on your races. I ran in the 5k race on the 17th and goodness, it felt tougher than last year because I had to run in the humid heat with asthma! First two miles weren't too bad, but after 2 miles my asthma started ticking me off, but I did not stop at all. I just kept on going and pushing myself. I'm not proud of my speed because I finished in 43:05 and didn't won anything in my age group. I came in 7th place. I finished at the same time as last year, but a few seconds faster this year, lol. I really envy those fast runners that can finish the race under 30 minutes. Good news is that my lower back didn't hurt me at all after the race. Wow, I must be improving!

Btw, I wore my CI at the race and it didn't fall off of me at all. Probably because I kept the coil magnet under my hair with my hair in the ponytail. My CI did help me hear the runner's footsteps from behind me to let me know to go faster!

Hey Kathy!

I do distance education so my classes are online. The professor and class use forums, skype, Google chat, email, texting, and interactive videos (that are captioned).

Yes, I was Buncolady for ages. Then one of the teams I led had all leaders whose profile name started with a K so we thought of this one for me!

Hello All, sorry to hear of your rough days, Kathy. Thought of you when we were in the Maryland area. Spent our last night at the Sheraton by the airport. Great people & very friendly.
It always takes a while to get caught up after being gone for a few days. We got in late on Thursday & I worked on Friday. The mailbox at the Post Office was overflowing as no one had picked up the mail while I was gone.
It's good to be home!

I did indeed workout after the rough couple of days. I've run several times this week and done weight training three times. Will run and do weight training tomorrow.

Hearingelmo-Where are you going to school? Do you rely on interpreters or other assistive aids?

Sorry about the rough week, Kathy. I wonder if our "heat" here in MD has anything to do with the problems?

I'm finishing up my MS in Psychology... should be done by January.

We rec'd some rain last night so I'm hopeful I can get out there and walk tonight since it will be cooler!

Whooboy! I decided we get punished after a long vacation/weekend! :-/ My supervisor and I have both had a rough couple of days since we returned to the office. All h*** seems to have broken loose with our clients (mentally ill), which has taken a lot of time and energy on our parts. This too shall pass, eh?

I got good workouts in over the weekend and yesterday but did nothing today. Too pooped! Gotta make myself run tomorrow morning.

Happy "Hump" day everyone! Wow, is it ever hot here in the mid-Atlantic states! My hearing assistance dog "walked me" last night, but we had to do it at 9 PM! I was still drenched in perspiration! Guess that is a good thing...

I purchased an inexpensive, lightweight, reflective vest, and I put a blinking light on my dog's collar as well as a "wrap" that goes around her normal collar that is also reflective.

What do you do to exercise when the summer heat is at its worst?

Wow, the 100 degree temps are really getting to me. I feel like a wrung out dish rag.

I skipped breakfast this morning which I know isn't smart. I just woke up feeling WEAK! I ate a good lunch though... now to drink some extra water.

Hope everyone is well! Back to "the grind"... SMILE!

My zinnias are up and are beautiful! I recommend them for a dash of color, Kathy!

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th! I planned way ahead and have plenty of healthy things for our family cookout tonight. I even found fat-free 100% beef hotdogs! So glad fresh veggies and fruit are easy to find (and inexpensive) this time of year! I made a fat-free, sugar free banana pudding too! I'll be eating it with f/f, s/f coolwhip! Who says you can't do a holiday healthy? GRIN

Thanks for the reminder for "blessed safe and healthy celebration" Debbie! My young adult children will be firing fireworks tonight and I'm always a little bit afraid! So much can go wrong! I give them the "be careful" sermon before they begin each year!

Happy 4th of July, everyone! emoticon

I hope you all have a fun and safe day.

Hearingelmo, I'm glad you got to enjoy Karate Kid captioned at the theater. Our captioned theaters are all a bit of a drive for us. :-/ We just wait til we can get the movies on dvd and watch at home.

I'll be busy cleaning my DD's room. She just moved out yesterday. I need to clean it up so my son in law and DH can prime the walls (DD had the room painted red-yikes). Then, I'm going shopping for a new bedspread/comforter set and and pick out some paint to match it. That will be fun. I also plan to buy either zinnia plants or seeds and plant them in front of our shed. It needs some color out there! I think I'll do before and after pictures of it. emoticon

Will catch up more later folks!

Hello! Checking in today and off to a good (2nd) start! I developed a good ol' fashioned "competition" with my husband and hope that this will help us both get healthy.

I went to see Karate Kid (open captioned) with my family this afternoon. I stayed away from the theatre snacks too! Woo hoo!

Congratulations, kathy. On the 5K. I'm very proud and happy for you. That rock in your should must ahve been darn painful. Poor thing.

Today I raced with my Dragon boat Team in Salem. there are 3 races and the first 2 we won. We raced against Portland State University and a team called Wicked. I left with robert to come home because he is sick. But if we win the 3rd race we get GOLD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My team is all visually impired or blind.
We raced against Sighted teams.

Hi! My first 5k is done. I ran in the Baltimore Women's Classic this morning. I ran a 36:22 with an AP of 11:43. I think it would have been better than this, except I got a rock in my shoe and it was painful stepping on it! LOL I had to step off to the sidewalk and take my shoe off to get the rock out. The water stations were difficult to maneuver as well. I was trying to be polite and wait my turn, but everyone around me kept grabbing at the cups of water! Oh well..now I know what it's like. :-)

Hello everyone! Good luck on your 5K's! I don't run either except for a slight jog while doing the wii fit basic run. 5K's are a lot of fun tho' as I've worked them for the local high school and last year a 75 year old male came in 2nd on the race.

All is better in Missouri. The car has been repaired and got new tires so hopefully will be on the road for a few thousand more miles.

We have had very heavy rains the past couple of weeks and our basement has flooded 4 times (that's my bedroom). Just about have it all dried out and all the mold/wet damage repaired. Hope to enjoy my bed in a couple more days. We were really blessed as others lost so much property in our small town.

Have a great week.

Hi everyone! Just checking in to see how things are going for y'all. It's nice to hear how much people are enjoying their summers with their CIs! I need to tell DH it's time to go to the beach or wildlife reserve so I can enjoy all the sounds. I think he sometimes thinks about getting a CI for himself. He sees me hearing things he can't hear (He used to hear better than me!).

My first 5k is coming up in a week on June 27! I'm debating whether or not to wear my CI during the race. I don't wear it when I run at home, but think I may want to be aware of what's going on around me, not to mention all the excitement I'll hear! :-) Anyone have any experience with this??

Kathy: Yes, I really enjoyed it. :) I was in Florida about 2 weeks ago and I tell ya, I heard all kinds of birds there and wild animals with my CI. Pink Flamingos sounded so funny. I was laughing hard. I'm so glad I got this CI just on time! I can't believe how fearless these birds are out there. They don't even mind pictures, lol!!

Woohoo!! Good luck on your race. I think our 5k race is coming up in July. I gotta keep practicing running so that I can do better than I did last year. Let us know how your race went when it comes. :D

HI everyone! Good to see you all popping in on here again. :-)

Linda-sorry you have a bit of a stressful time while you got your car repaired. That sure was a nice repairman, letting you use his truck for a week!! Wow..

Natty-I'm glad you are able to enjoy hearing the birds! :-) Sounds like you had a nice walk.

Debbie-It's good to hear from you and that you are sleeping well now. I hope all is going well with your CI!

I just signed up for my first 5k race! I'll be racing in the Baltimore Women's Classic on June 27-whoohoo!!
