Could you limit the number of times you buy the cookies? Start with every other time getting something different, then every third time, etc. Make it a special treat instead of a regular indulgence.

Thanks for the advice and commiseration. Thinking about it with total blunt honesty, I think I don't really want to change this habit yet, because I keep buying the [swears] cookies.

Also try not to go to the gas station hungry? If you stop in after work, grab a handfull of almonds or some string cheese or something like that to munch on before you leave the office. If you stop in before work or during a day off, have a good meal before you leave the house or grab a few snacks with you.
Pre-planning is everything!

Another thing is to keep healthy snacks in your car or purse or brief case or whatever you carry. This time of year is too hot to keep snacks in your car, but I always keep a couple in my purse so I'm not tempted to stop somewhere and buy something unhealthy.

Or to take it to another level: I keep a gallon of water in my car so I don't even have to go in for water...lol! Our local grocery store sells filtered water for 25 cents a gallon when you provide the empty bottle. Helps also that I also can drink water at any temperature... :-)

Water!!!! Our local gas station had a dunkin' donuts in it. If I have to go in, I buy a bottle of water or non-sweetened ice tea. Another tactic is washing the car windows instead of going in, or taking the time to re-fill window washing fluid.

i was going to the gas station. they built a new one by me. the chodolate./candy are no longe temptaions but i do like the bakery foods and other snacks. they have some cheese stuffed bread sticks. they have so many simple carb, calories and fat. i started getting just plain string cheese from the grocery store- no sugary carbs, less fat and more protein.

I have the same difficulty at the drugstore, picking up prescriptions...but also wander into the unhealthy snack sections of the store, which are like EVERYWHERE!

One thing I do to minimize temptation is use the drive through as much as possible. If I go into the store I try to be aware in advance of the "trap" that awaits and prepare myself to avoid those sections of the store, get what I came for and no more!

Avoidance is the best tactic. There's a certain deli I love that had the best fresh bread, but I know I'll buy and eat a whole loaf, so I avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

I use my credit card or speed pass at the pump. I know that if I go in to pay for gas, I will walk out with a bag of chips.

So yesterday I filled up at the gas station, and went in and bought cookies. And ate them. This is my big bad habit, waiting and filling up my car when I want some cookies. This time though, I said to myself, "What the H. Stop it. Never do this again." I was wondering, how do you stop doing this kind of thing to yourself? (For me, the answer is to just use the credit card at the pump and not go in at all. If I see the cookies I'll probably buy them again.)
