Forgot to mention that Zoey's stools are consistently nice and solid with the dry Blue Buffalo.

Whenever I''m tempted to eat something I shouldn''t, I remember the following: "Don''t eat for the moment''s pleasure, for when that moment''s gone, the consequences will stay with you, from that moment on."

I also use Blue Buffalo Small Breed Chicken and Rice. I used it for Strudel ( my little apricot poodle that passed away) & now use it for my darling Zoey. I also give her two brands of peanut butter biscuits. One is Paul Newman's small heart shaped ones and the other is Old Mother Hubbard's. She loves them both.

Jane, thanks for your suggestions! Love "old" vet's advice too. It's good to pass those bits of wisdom on since many go strictly by the books and keep a closed mind to "old" ways.

Both Ava and Breea are doing great with their new Blue Buffalo food. I still have a few more days of blending it with their old food but they haven't had any tummy issues during the switch. They really like the taste of it too. And no more messy poos!

Good idea mixing the old and new food. Sometimes if a dog's tummy is upset (as from getting into something outside), and stools are loose, I use an old vet's advice and mix chicken and rice. Of course, poodles usually figure out to separate out the rice, but it does work. For the opposite problem, constipation, a teaspoon of pumpkin works wonders. Again, it was vet's advice, though a lot cheaper than a trip to the vet!

Jane.

Well, that's good that you heard from another person having problems with that food. You have to read the labels these days because they just throw any crap they want to in some of the foods. My ex hubby worked in waste water treatment and trust me the waste water from chickens and pigs and other nasty things go to the renders and they cook it down and add it to dog food.

My ex even had to treat the water to get metals out of it! metals in our babies tummys! OMG! that freaked me out!!!

April is as sweet and loving as ever!!

Lorraine, Thanks for the info on your puppy and Wellness. They had to have changed something in their formula. And you are right, the stuff is not cheap! I am going to use the portion I have left to blend their new food with while I am switching them over.
I'll do a search on Taste of the Wild too. Thanks for mentioning it! Laurie

Mary, Thanks for the info about Blue Buffalo. That is one that I was curious about. Wellness is suppose to be a healthy food too so it is frustrating to have to change. Ava has eaten it for 5 years.I am just really anxious to get over this poopy issue! I know that I need to add a new food slowly and that it could get worse before it gets better!
Never tried the Paul Newman treats, I'll check those out when I get to a pet store.

I'll have to add some poodle pics soon. I deleted a bunch and then didn't add any back.
Hope April is doing great! Thanks for replying, appreciate it!

funny you should say that because I have been feeding my 6 month old puppy Wellness puppy and he has been having loose smelly poop too. I went ahead and switched him slowly over to what my older dog have been eating which is Taste of the Wild, pacific stream. It is a no grain food. No more problems. Normal poops for the first time since I got him at 10 weeks. The bag of Wellness says that I can return unused portion of bag to the store for a refund. You bet I will that stuff is not cheap. I use Blue Buffalo, Small Breed Adult. It's in the pink bag. You have to get it from pet co or pet smart. It is very small pieces. It's great. keep in mind that when you switch them, there may be a little poopie issue but once their tummies get used to it, it's great. The reason I am many others here use Blue Buffalo, is because the FIRST ingredient is the meat, there are no fillers AT ALL and you don't have to worry about it killing them like what happened a few years ago. they don't allow anything bad in their foods. The chicken with veggies is what I get little april, she is a 5 lb. Poodle. she loves it.

For their treats, I only buy her Paul Newman organic treats. they are very good for the dog and also all the proceeds goes to charity.

Let us know how those little babies are doing! New pictures would be great too!!! LOL

I have been using Wellness Brand Small Breed dog food for over 5 years. It was great....small pieces of food and normal stools. Well...the last 2 bags (I bought the second one thinking it was a fluke that their stools changed) our 2 poodles have had cow pie consistency stools and sometimes Breea's are even looser than that. I am assuming Wellness changed "something" and that is why both dogs are having issues. They are having no other health issues.

Ava is 3 lbs. 6 oz. and Breea is 6 lbs. 8 oz. so they need a small breed type of food. Does anyone have any suggestions?! And please also tell me any food you may have tried that caused loose and/or harder stools too.
I want to start to switch them soon so they can get back to having normal formed stools. Thanks for any replies, Laurie
