SAM IS CANCER FREE!
WOO HOO!

It was the sebaceous gland, it wasn't cancer, it was just very inflamed!

THANK YOU EVERYONE for all the support and good thoughts and prayers! I appreciate it so much!

Kelly,
That was a GREAT idea! I remember when Strudel (my little teacup poodle that I had before Zoey) had surgery, and the vet said that I needed to keep it covered so she wouldn't lick or bite her stitches. I bought newborn t-shirts and put them on her. Your idea was even better!

WOW - Sam is such a good doggy! Twilite would never allow me to put anything over her like that. I fight to put a bandanna on her neck! But of course Mommy wins but it is still a fight! You are such a good mommy to make something like that to keep Sam safe! I would have had no clue where to start! Still sending healing and good vibes your way emoticon

BAck from the vets....

End of the week for the report on the biopsy... Grouch...

Sams surgical sites are doing GREAT! Both vets are very very happy with them.... New bandages put on by the vet and then I was told cover the back leg site (Where the lump was, its right where the back leg meets the body) talk about DIFFICULT! Unless of course we make sam a mummy, which in June is not a good thing....

SO, I went home with vetwrap, cloth bandage tape and more no lick/chew spray.... And the I know you can think of something for Sam, we don't need to do it here from my vets...

(Side note: I worked with a Equine hospital as a teenager, all the vets while I rode until I was in my late 30's, and basically know a lot more about bandages, surgery, and how to keep things clean and dry than I want to and my mom was an RN....)

So we get home... Sam is bouncing off the wall, and wanting to play and I am searching the house for something light but durable, easy to clean, not emotionally attached to and something that will fit what I need....

I sacrificed one leg of my lycra, breathable running pants.... long leg... They were WAY too small, and Sam needed something.... SO I cut off one leg and then spent the next half hour with a saint of a poodle as I shoved him in to the leg like a sausage into a casing, cut the holes for the legs and tail, then took it off, trimmed, put it back on, trimmed, took it back off trimmed then vetwraped and taped it on him making sure he could move and pee and potty....

The results are now my avatar picture.... Maybe I should discuss this with the vet and then have it designed for real use... We will see.... It seems to work we have been out and walking and he's jumping and moving with no problem, except for looking incredibly embarrassed....

Thanks for all the thoughts and support and I will keep you up to date on Sam the super poodle and his super shorts and biopsy results....

Kelly

So glad to hear that Sam's doing well. Zoey has a crate too, but hasn't been in it for months. Maybe Sam will be a "good boy" now and NOT pee when he gets anxious. I'm sure he's loving his "contained" freedom in the bathroom.

Hugs,
Dee

Hi everyone!

Its so far, so good... Sam is happy, bouncy and wiggly! He's not quite sure why I won't play tennis ball with him, but is accepting it.

He's taking medicines really well and dealing with the elizabethan collar with no problem while I have to be out of the house (Work, I'm glad I have a not so late start and end times AND a break in the middle of the day). My partner is in Berlin at the moment so its me and three critters.

I've made our bathroom into a snuggly den with food and water and his dog bed, radio and nightlight for him so he's not in his crate (He is always crated when we are not home, due to separation anxiety peeing being really bad when we got him and crate training WAS the only way to get it under control after one chair in the old apartment was ruined) something that will continue now... Not ONE accident, at all and he has not been howling or barking (We have a neighbor who I asked if he heard anything, he is home all the time and says no Sam is quiet, he's in a wheelchair and would take him out, but can't... And Sam is not good in other peoples homes with the anxiety peeing, so he has to be in our home or boarded if we are gone for longer periods of time such as a vacation where a dog can't go, otherwise he's with us!)

Tuesday we go back to have the surgical sites checked and get the results of the report. I'm nervous, but since the wounds look really good (The site of the lump I can see, the wart removed is still under the fully wrapped bandage) and Sam feels great and is totally normal, I'm cautiously optimistic.... I'll only relax when its a done deal and I know...

Thank you for all the support... It really helps!

Will keep everyone up to date and sorry if there are spelling mistakes that the spell check did not get, as a chef an occupational hazard is gettiing cut and I have a tiny cut on the very tip of the middle finger of my left hand due to a knife that slipped, not bad at all just annoying!

Kelly,
I missed this information about Sam until just now. Listen to Sue's positive "what if's" because she gives great advice (and Reiki).

I will also be sending healing energy and prayers your way.

Hugs,
Dee and Zoey

Thanks everyone! Sam and I feel all the energy and thoughts you are sending to us! Will keep everyone up to date.

Small update:

1) Sam only has to wear the collar IF he keeps chewing the spots, he's not... so only when I am NOT with him does he have to wear it, which is great! The Vet gave us some really nasty tasting spray (Its an aerosol so yes I managed to get some in my mouth when he wiggled!)

2) the hardest thing is NOT feeding him at the moment. He was only allowed a TINY meal this evening, very very small and he's been drooling at every food smell (I ordered pizza delivered, I just didn't feel like cooking, and he LOVES pizza.... I feel so bad! The poor dog is going to have to wait and he will be ravenous by tomorrow, and I have to feed the cats (Up on a high cart is their bowl) and he was just sitting and watching our Lio eat and licking his lips....

He is vibrant, wiggly and moving like our normal happy pudelchen... So everything is looking good at the moment!

Good news about everything but that cyst. We're praying about the biopsy, and that Sam keeps the elizabethan collar on long enough for the wounds to heal.

I will be praying right along with you that you get great news on Tuesday. I had to wait for Twilites anal gland results for a week and I was stir crazy by then. The one came back with cancer cells and she was only 10 months old - I freaked out. The vet said he got it all he thought but she would need blood work every 6 months for the next 2 years to make sure there were no cells in her blood. We have had 2 tests so far and all has been clear! She has 2 more to get through, but she is healthy and active!

On tuesday I am going to cook him a MEAL.... I am definaely going to treat him well after we know everything's okay! And if its not, we go from there and do whats necessary... And you are right its more likely than not benign....

Better to know and I will try to keep positive thoughts going, since hes the best hiking buddy to have... Dog does 14 kilometers and plays for hours with the kids in the Apt building, so he's going to need all his energy and healthiness for another 20 years!

Hi Kelly

I missed this yesterday but am sending prayers and healing energy your way now. Let us know how is biopsy goes. Everything is probably just fine but it is best to have it checked.

HUGS - I know how hard the waiting is. If you need to play the 'what if' game - turn it to positives: What if Sam's lump is benign? What if Sam is so healthy I get to be his companion for the next 20 years? What if we go find a super treat for Sam when we find out everything is fine? There are as many good 'what-ifs' as bad ones - put your energies into those positive thoughts as you wait for definitive results. HUGS

Healing Blessings
Sue

All right, here's the scoop on Sam...

Teeth, A-Okay... Clean, healthy done.

Wart, gone, close to a blood vessel so there is a bandage. Must keep an eye on that so he doesn't bite or lick it. Got the evil smelling yellow icky spray to keep him from doing so. If that fails, we have the dumb dog collar.

Now for the not A-Okay news. The bump, which the vet thought was an arthroma or a sebaceous gland that does not work right, isn't what it seemed to be. Therefore he suggested a biopsy, which of course I answered yes to. The results are not in until Tuesday. I'm going to be a wreck by then.

The bump is totally gone. He has stitches and a band-aid, again sprayed or stupid collar if he goes after it, but I'm going to be nervous the entire time until the results are back.

He's young, healthy, and WIGGLY! He wanted outside, wanted already his tennis ball, and I wish I could feed him.... Not until after 6pm again... and only a tiny tiny bit... Poor guy... he's so confused....

The collar has to be on when he is alone... I have a half day of work tomorrow night, so tomorrow morning is okay, I work saturday and I THINK I am off sunday (Not sure about monday or tuesday, that too maybe...) so I will have a lot of fussing time for him....

And he has antibiotics twice a day, pain pills once a day.... And a whole lot of loving and fussing to deal with... At least tomorrow morning I can get back to our normal routine with him.... He's as much a creature of habit as us and our cats!

Keep fingers and paws crossed....

Kelly

Kelly -

I am so sorry Sam has to go to the vet and stay! I can understand what you are going through. It is hard to leave them even without what happened "last time" because they are like our children but they do not understand. I am sure he will be OK. I drive my vet nuts when Twilite is there. I call them every other hour to check on her!

Please keep us posted on how Sam is doing and when he can come back home. Hopefully it will not be too long (even though it will feel like forever for you).

Okay, I'm nervous.
Sam has to go to the vet today to have a sebaceous gland removed along with his teeth being done and wart removal.
Last time was Charlie, our cat who we had to put to sleep.
He's got to have anethtesia.
He's confused because he hasn't had his food, he's sure I've forgotten it...
I know he's healthy, and this is good for him.
But its hard to leave him after the last time we didn't get to bring the other pet home from the vet's office.
I will NOT be happy until he is back in the house where I can pet him and fuss over him and just reach out and touch him to reassure myself he's back.

SHudder... Just need the poodle people to help me relax... thanKs for listening!

Kelly
