How sad. I'm not sure whether the problem was with the doggie door when you were gone, or whatever happened when she got outside. But it does look like retraining's necessary. Have you checked with the neighbors in case they saw something strange?
I agree...something must have happened with the door. Never had a doggie door, so I can't add all that much here. Yes, retraining and making the fear go away via tempting treats sounds like the way to go.
Ok...Snickers is 5 years old and she has had no problems ever using the doggie door. Well, for several weeks now...ever since we went to the wedding and left the dogs here, she refuses to use the doggie door and has been pooping and peeing in the house. I've just decided to get her kennel out of storage and place her in the kennel for re-training. I don't know what else to do. Raider and Buffy aren't having any problems at all, but she sure is!
