YUM...pumpkin butter...had some this morning. Trader Joe's has it year round, I'm pretty sure! Of course, I only want to eat it in the fall. It's great on wheat toast with low-fat cream cheese.

You don't need a lot of either of these wonderful spreads to get the full effect. I measure the portions.

I buy my pumpkin butter and apple butter. Usually the pumpkin butter is seasonal. Check the peanut butter and jelly aisle at your grocery store to see what is available. It can be hard to find in some areas of the country.

Pumpkin butter and apple butter can be healthy as long as there isn't excess sugar in them, just read the label and go as natural as possible. You can usually find them at health food stores and farmer's markets too.

Also for those of us watching for high Glycemic Index foods and carbs with our pre-diabetic and diabetic diets, we need to use these 'butters' in moderation. I usually make sure I have a high fiber component in any meal I use it in. But hey, that goes with all of what we eat, huh? - moderation.

But all things considered they have nutrients in them that margarines and butter does not. and the flavors are awesome.

YOur sandwich sounds yummy. I went veggie this summer but have added back eggs as I found my body is not fond of nuts anymore. I simply can't spend that much time in the ladies' room! Do you have a recipe for pumpkin butter?

I WILL lose the remaining 10 pounds. But then, when I hit where I want to be, I go all soft...OK, did it...and I start getting sloppy with my eating and gain 20 or 30 pounds. Then the evil cycle starts again.

I'm not going to let that happen again.

So, the last 2 weeks were tough, wasn't feeling well, but I hopped back on the wellness ride. I feel that screw-ups happen, but the trick is to get back on track ASAP.

Tracking is key for me, as well as portion control. I eat healthy stuff most of the time, just too much of it!

Water is soooo important. I always hated water. Had to learn to appreciate it. I slam it down like nobody's business now; it is part of the routine.

And walking. I walk. And walk. And walk. I need it...too much stress! I belong to a gym, and went there once this year. Walking is much more fun!

Good luck everyone. This is turning out to be a forum where we're all talking out our hits and misses!

Peace, Love, and everything Groovy!

I have been "trying" to loose weight for years. I think that just a small part of why I have not is stress. Ever since 1977, when I moved to Al., it has been one stressful living situation after the other. But to be very honest, I have only been giving my eating habits lip service, as Mary said that she did, & that I do believe is my biggest problem! But I am about to move out of Al. & out of any kind of apartment life forever & into my own home in only a few days. I know that stress in itself CAN make you gain weight, But, within 2 or 3 weeks we shall see if my excuse holds water, or if it's just another excuse. emoticon emoticon

Oh this topic is ok with me. I have lost the past three weeks. I found out that aspartame, an ingredient in all the sugar free crystal lite and diet sodas and sugar free anything was the culprit in my not losing. In trying to take in 62 ounces of fluid everyday, I was doing it with crystal lite, which is loaded with aspartame. That is the same stuff that lead the researchers to the discovery that if you drink diet soda (just one) a day, you will cause yourself to gain, or at least not lose.

I have been logging my food and also I got a leslie sansone dvd to work out with and I have gotten up to about 55 minutes a day with exercising. So I am losing now.

I will admit that I was just giving it lip service before. I ate somewhat healthy but I was over eating. And I was just lip servicing exercise too. I might have exercised 2 or 3 times a week for about 20 minutes. That just isn't enough. And I knew that too, in the back of my mind.

What got me started is that I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have been put on januvia. No side effects or anything but I don't want to be in the same shape my mother was. She didn't take care of her self after her diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. She would lip service what she was eating, claiming that she wasn't eating what we knew she was. she stopped her walking routine. And she ended up bed ridden and blind.

I am going to learn from this instead of becoming it. I am the one that makes the decision of what goes into my mouth, it isn't just jumping in there, let's face it. So my decision is that I am going to eat healthy, not overeat and exercise, exercise, exercise!!!

For those of you that like it, I make my sandwiches of thin sliced turkey, or roast beef, or chicken, a slice of swiss, tsp of lite mayo and tsp of deli mustard with lots of baby spinach piled on. If I feel that I need a crunch, I will have celery sticks on the side. I get full on that for sure. for breakfast, I have a cup of cheerios or a cup of oatmeal. I have stopped having a banana with that because it has 31 carbs and I am mandated with keeping my carbs down to 50 per meal. So far, the majority of the time, I do just that. For dinner, I will have some type of grilled fish, chicken or pork chops (not often on the pork though). We grill all of our meat. And I have a fresh vegetable, ALWAYS. It is too easy to get them even during the winter months now days. I will have a sweet potato or brown rice. If it is brown rice, since I don't like it just plain, I cook it with fat free low sodium chicken broth in place of half the water that is called for. that is low carb low sodium and it is really good. I am not a milk drinker so I try to get my dairy in other ways like a yogurt and swiss cheese. I eat lots of raw veggies too because a lot of the time, I don't like cooked vegetables. I just don't like how they smell. I steam all the veggies that we eat cooked.

For salads, I get the light done right ranch and then I mix it with some water. It makes it thin, but the flavor is still great, and I don't have to skimp on salad dressing.

We went to the club to eat last night and I asked for a to go box to be brought with my dinner. I immediately took have of the fish and half of the sweet potato off the plate. I left the veggies alone. I was very full when I finished and I couldn't eat it all ether. If I had left the plate as is, I would have mindlessly eaten a lot more, just because it is there.

I have lost about 10 lbs.

These are the things that are working for me. I hope you all get some good from it too.

I have gone from 204 down to 184 and have 34 pounds to go. I love...love...love baggy clothes and EVERYTHING is fitting that way right now, well except for my beautiful mother of the bride gown for my daughter's wedding. That one fits like a glove as I've just been able to downsize to a smaller gown. The wedding is in two weeks and pictures are forthcoming.

I am down 8 pounds since I saw the Doc last month. Been working diligently at tracking so I can stay within good calorie limits. Plus I am watching my sugar intake even more carefully. And the dreaded exercise - have increased that.

I found that milk was a culprit for me. I drink 1% and was drink 32 oz a day or more. The calories add up that way. EEK So I cut that down to one glass as long as I have other calcium rich foods through the day. Eating out was my other prob. Now I take containers with me and cut things at least in half and I order more veggies than pasta/potato.

And popcorn has become my evening friend. I am very careful what calories I take in later in the day and popcorn is one of the 'cheapest'.

I HAVE to keep at it b/c I do not want to have to take 'sugar pills' or have all the health probs associated with Type 2 diabetes. I want to be around to see my granddaughters grow up.

I have gotten very creative with my sandwiches and other meal choices. Like for lunch today, I used 2 slices toasted 7 whole grain bread, 1 tbls pumpkin butter, 1/2 thinly sliced apple, 2 ounces of Hillshire deli turkey, and a little bit of thin onion. Sounds bizarre but it works. Gives me high fiber, protein, relatively low sugars and interesting texture and flavor.

I do feel better with just this little bit I have dropped. But I dropped 10 lbs before and then gained it back, so I am not truly going to celebrate until I hit 190 and either stay there or keep going down. By then I figure I should have a handle on it.

Bright Blessings
Sue

So how are y'all doing weight-wise? Or is that not an acceptable topic? If not, sorry, I'll back out. It is just on my mind today as I see I am still where I have been for the last several months and that is NOT where it is healthy for me to be. Grrrrr. I'm eating healthy foods and trying not to overeat them. But darn! No progress! Losing weight is not an option; it is necessary to maintain good health. I'm getting downright cranky with myself!
