Thank you for the tip, I never would have thought about looking there for some nice clothes but I am going to now. I love your list because it resembles mine as well. Those Grandbabies are something worth getting out weight off for. Great list!

Our budget is slim pickens of late but I have found that going 'thrifting' can be fun. We have Good Will and Salvation Army here which often have great deals and nice clothes. Consignment shops are a little pricier but they do carry a more consistent flow of dressy clothes. Yeah ya gotta sort through but sometimes you can find top name brands AND I have even gotten some things that have tags still on them. The little jacket I am wearing now still had tags on it. It is an Indigo Moon and I got it for $4. I have two really nice blouses that are Eddie Bauer I got for $3 each. It is fun trying to find the 'good stuff'. But I do agree it is harder to find good looking stuff when we are plus size. Can get a bit off-putting.

Today, I had to take off the dress pants I was wearing b/c they were like too baggy. Even hubby laughed at that. So a short term goal is to get where I can comfortably get into my next size downs so I don't look like bozo coming down the street. LOL

Anyway my list is:

1) Give my grandaughters(one 4 years, and one 8 months old) more lap room to cuddle on.

2) Being able to get on the floor to play with those adorable little girls and get up again easily.

3) Being able to bend over an tie my shoes.

4) Walk down the steps without my knees screaming (Remember for every pound dropped you take 4 pounds of pressure of the knees!)

5) Being able to shop in the non-plus aisles!

That's a great idea Jane! I agree this idea is one that would benefit us all. my list is as follows, but will probably be added to as I go along:

1. I'm getting back into that bathing suit on my spark page! Size 10
2. I'm going to wear my sparkly outfit that is on my spark page. Size 10
3. I am going to love not waking myself up snoring, which is caused by my weight gain.

There will be more!

Ruth, the list idea's great and I hope hasn't gotten lost. What if people post when items on the list come true, not only when everything has?

Jane.

oh man people like that make me sooooo mad! My oldest brother was the only over weight one of us kids and when the kids made fun of him, I used to protect him and have had plenty of fights too.

People that put others down do it so that their own short comings won't be noticed. They are insecure and have to make someone else be the focus so that their own lacking stuff won't be noticed. You are a beautiful woman!

I also shop thrift stores, and yard sales. Also, I just went to sears and bought some cute blouses in my size and they were just $12.99 a piece.

also, Roamans on line has great sales.

Keep your chin up and hang out with us kiddo. We believe in you!

Hugs
Mary

God bless your hearts! I consider myself pretty tough...I guess you could compare me to a chocolate cherry...hard on the outside but gooey on the inside. I know what your saying about these people but it is so humiliating. I will look in the places you have suggested for some used clothing. I have a huge wardrobe just waiting for the pounds to drop. I have never gotten rid of my skinny clothes! I am being patient but at the age of 55 the days keep moving faster and faster! I love people and I love being social that is why I made the list so I could keep sight of the things I am missing out on. It helps to keep me focused....thank you sweet hearts!!

Ruth, those people that call names, etc. are people that can be ignored. They are not worth your time. You are sooo much better than that.

Those are miserable, petty people who will never take the time to know the person within. Totally useless.

OK, maybe it's a little easier for me because I was born in the attitude capital of the world, New Jersey!

You WILL find nice clothes! Have a little patience. I'm a stickler for gently used clothing, and believe me, there's stuff out there. And clothes can always be altered. Resale shops and eBay are great places to look!

If you find that nicer clothes are not so affordable, maybe buy one or two nice things instead of five or six. And accessories like scarfs, pins, earrings and necklaces can change the look of those outfits.

I just picked up a terrific silk scarf at a garage sale for $2! I love the old 60's scarfs! And yes, I do wear them!

Hope this helps! Gerry.

Peace, Love, and everything Groovy!

You know what Ruth? Those people that do like that are just down right ignorant!!!!
I wouldn't let them make you feel bad!
Not everybody is like that!It is a cold and cruel world sometimes and I just feel sorry for those kind of people who think that they are better then someone else!
That's my 2 cents worth for the day! LOL!

finding good clothes I can afford in my size is virtually impossible and I dread social events because I am so self conscious. People have been down right cruel mooing, oinking and calling names that I would rather stay home then go out and be subjected to that kind of abuse. I know I am supposed to be comfortable in my skin but the era I grew up in being fat was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! Hard to get out of the rut that has been drilled into your head for so many years. I understand and appreciate what your saying though.

Somehow, I missed this discussion!
Ruth, Gerry is so right about what she said! Take her advice and do those things now, not just later!

Ruth, I love your idea of a list (I am a stickler for documentation...just love it). However, the things you've suggested can be done NOW. OK, maybe not dressing super stylish, but wearing nicer clothes that make you feel good now. Being more social now and relying on good people for support. Just 2 examples, but you get the idea.

Peace, Love, and everything Groovy!

Good suggestion! My sisters are 20 years older than I, and when I listen to their medical/physical ailments, I consider it a heads up to me. Exercise and losing weight to regain/maintain strength, health, balance, ad other benefits are at the top of the list. I lost 9 pounds, but didn't realize it was because I had been recovering from the flu and hadnt had much appetite. So now that I'm back to "normal," \my weight back to "abnormal", and I've only lost 4 pounds. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

One thing that helped me get motivated was a list of things I would do different or just plain be able to do if I were at my goal weight.
For instance: hiking, swimming, wear more stylish clothes, be able to bend over easier to tie my shoes, go to more social events and my list went on and on. Take a moment and make your own list of all the things that your weight has kept you from doing. You will be amazed...then keep that list somewhere you can look at it everyday to remind you that these are some other reasons beside getting healthier and feeling better. Check back in here and let everyone know your feelings when your done. It is awesome when you sit down and give this some thought.
